I owned an EIZO FORIS FG2421 for a brief period of time, but ended up returning it to the store. First off, before buying any monitor you should consult reviews on the internet, for example on tftcentral.co.uk: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/eizo_fg2421.htm
I'm sorry to let you know that the EIZO monitor is not a true 240 Hz monitor. It can display 120 Hz normally, but there's a certain setting that the manufacturer calls the Turbo 240 Hz mode or whatever. What it does (as far as I understand) is blink the backlight in between the real frames to reduce ghosting. With that said, your current monitor actually has the higher refresh rate.
I don't know what your current monitor is, but that EIZO monitor in particular isn't amazing in terms of input lag, and in fact with the Turbo 240 Hz mode enabled I'd wager it has more input lag than your current monitor. You can check some measurements of lag on the tftcentral.co.uk link above. Perhaps your friend is confusing something else with input lag? I'm really having a hard time believing a 144 Hz monitor could have noticeable input lag.
The EIZO monitor has great picture clarity with the high refresh rate, but for me that was all it had. I noticed a lot of ghosting, weird graphical glitches, gradient banding and I was generally unhappy with the color display of the monitor. It was great for CS 1.6 and other fps games, but for everything else I prefer my 60 Hz IPS monitor. Considering the price tag on the EIZO monitor, I really don't recommend getting one. I'm sorry to let you down, but I had a really bad experience with the monitor.

Eizo's 240 hz monitor just add a black frame between each real frame, it's not a real 240 hz
