Hi everyone!

Sorry for being so quiet recently, had a lot of work to do since getting greenlit (thank you for that by the way!) - I've been working really hard, but something has come up I feel I need to notify XJ of.

Compatibility is one of my most important priorities when creating a Steam version of the game, and it's in the most part there - the maps are compatible and essentially it should be almost the same game, just fully supported by Steam (meaning for example the Steam overlay will finally after all this time work again!).

However, there is one important caveat - the demos from the mod version won't be compatible with the Steam version. I know immediately how you might feel, why does it have to be like that? I take pride in KZMod being pretty straightforward and sleek at first glance when playing, but behind the scenes in the code, it's a mess to enable plugin support. The really nice people at SourceMod have agreed to make KZMod a fully supported game, which means I can finally remove all these plugin supporting hacks, but at the cost of also breaking demo compatibility.

Perhaps this won't all be so bad, right? Maybe it'll stimulate competition? Either way, it's not hopeless. If there is a big need and drive for it, thanks to the possibilities offered by Steam, we can have a beta option or a different way of launching the game that uses the old mod dlls, to allow older demos to be watched.

As it's the entering of a new era for KZMod, it really was now or never for this. Breaking demo compatibility after the game has been out on Steam for a while would understandably upset a lot of people. I hope my reasons can be understood for doing it now!

Thanks again!

In fact, most of the records are far from being perfect and therefore can be improved. It will take some time, before there will be few records left from outdated version. Before that happens, that would be for sure very nice to have an ability to watch them somehow.

rip afu 70 wrs

At first I understood that we wont be able to do demos in the NEW version.

Now that I read it again I feel like this only applies to WATCHING old demos from the old mod to the official version, am I right?

If its the latter, then I dont really care that much, as long as demos can still be made in the new one.

Old wrs can be seen through videos and stuff maybe. Theres that option in cs go kz where you can watch directly videos or tutorials from youtube or somehow uploaded in the server. (Dont remember exactly)

Maybe something similar might be done here until wrs are improved.

New demos can be made! It's watching old demos on the new version.

My 2 cents: It is a necessary evil as we move forward onto the steam platform, our final resting place in the world. :D

All present records will one day be beaten as it is in 1.6 still to this day. The only one I am worried about is Raceway Blue on kz_mix_journeys.

some players did 20.xx on server, so its totally possible to improve ;)

sorry but i didnt quite understood; you're going to remove all demos?

Raptor 01/04/2017 01:27

As far as I know XJ isn't planning on removing demos, but they won't be playable in the Steam version, I'll have to find a solution to let people play the old demos (maybe another launch option or something). Archiving the old demos might be a good idea for a fresh start when the game is out on steam? It's up to XJ.

Quite sad as I've invested time into some of my wrs that probably are still there (didnt check em in over 6 months :D), so i can imagine how bad sooshka/afu/etc are feeling right now. yeah, my demos suck, i know
Still, one important aspect for kreedz climbing is that it needs to be appealling!! As the current wrs aren't nearly perfected, a reset would be actually good and lets hope new players will strive for the top5 :D (nvmmeimhigh)

I've been working on the workshop integration, I haven't been doing this yet, is there a demand for it still?

I highly doubt that most of the people care.. Maybe a few here and there but what they do is to install the old version and watch the WR.

Rapha30/11/2017 14:50

well, i care and i know some people who care too, i would like to watch old demos on this new steam version aswell

btw good to hear about the workshop integration :)

@Raptor is the installation of KZMod the same as it was before greenlight or is it different now?
