prestrafe is random?
hello. first ill say that im doing it for 2 days
so it possible that i missing something. i play with clean install cs 1.6 setting ( except rates and sensitivity )
so i started out by downloading kz_longjumps2 and practice my prestrafe.
but i always get the feeling that those jumps are randomly "good" or " not good"
i can jump to the 235 unit block (even did once 237 but don't know how i did it ) it seems
that sometimes i just fall off even i did the exact same jump as the good one before it.
is it random or i just missing something?
Yeah, you are just lacking skill, couldn't you figure this on your own? Keep playing and you will see eventually that there are rarely 'random' things in this game. (Of course there are but not in this stage of your progression, it's all about skill at the moment)
check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVLUPqfdMdw
also use /speed, it helps to see if you do the arch right, and the right moment to jump.
thanks for your reply.Originally posted by FuZzy1check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVLUPqfdMdw

console say /speed is unknown command and in the chat it says and do nothing
use a lan plugin with ljstats or go on a kz server, like: 5.83.43.209:27015
No luck involved in the prestrafing technique. I guess one place where luck can play a factor is in the bhop, but still timing is far more important and you can reach a level, where you are safe from these killspeed bhops. Some jumps might feel more random than others, like the hard jump on kzno_xtremeblock, where you have such little space to do a prestrafe, for me feels like luck, but zhady doing it reverse and people doing it easy, shows that it's just as any other jump.
Try to make a quarter circle.
when it comes to LJ - i dont think the prestrafe + 6-7(pretty equal airtime[17to15 maxspeed for the first 2]) strafes + 55(or more) gained maxspeed gives you 250+ distance everytime.
i think lj distance depends on those factors above plus many more; like the angle when you release W key(after prestrafing), not making the strafes too wide, ducking as late as possible and probably more..
a few weeks ago i started playing kz again; tried some longjumps and reached 250 distance pretty often and then i remembered that i used to play with 1000hz(mouse rate); changed from standard 125hz to 1000hz and BAM! hit a few 255 longjumps without doing anything extra - same strafe number, prestrafe and after a while i went back to 250+(sadly)

It's all about practice, bro. When I started long jumping it was hard to get 260+ prestrafe speed. The movement with mouse was very weird to get used to. Nowadays I reach 270-273 without even concentrating on a good pre speed.
Your distance gets shorter the more airtime you have on the first strafe, from my experience.
When jumping on blocks there are several things you have to take in consideration: your Jump Off(jof), your pre-strafe, the number of strafes you use, your gain, your sync and when you duck.
For blocks you need to have a good jof. What that means is that you have to jump from as close to the block's edge as possible. If you have, for example, 12 jof, that means you've jumped 12 units away from the block edge. In turn, this means that you need an extra 12 units to land the block. So if you're trying a 230 block with 12 jof... that means you must land a lj of at least 242 units. If your jof is 2, you need to jump at least 232 units to land it, etc etc.
I don't want to go into detail about the other stats because there are many videos that explain it better than I ever could. I strongly recommend watching wayz's detailed longjumping guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkxtdC2L3MQ
As others have said - the more you play, the more you'll realize there's hardly any luck involved in jumping. You need to practice time and time again until you understand it.
In addition, there are public servers dedicated to kz_longjumps2 and they have all the plugins you'll need to keep track of your longjumping stats. Just run a search ingame for the kz_longjumps2 map and pick one with low latency and make sure it's not 100aa. You want to learn to jump on 10aa because it's what most kz/bhop servers use. Getting used to 100aa and then coming to a 10aa server is annoying, but that's a whole different topic. Anyway, glhf.

what does sync mean

How synchronized your strafes are between your mouse and keyboard movements. Basically, how well moving your mouse left and right corresponds when you press A and D when you're in the air during a jump.
Ideally you want 85%+ but anything above 70-75% is good enough for most cases. Try to experiment with less, more fluent strafes.

Actually, this is a big misconception. Sync doesn't really indicate how well your strafes are synchronized, but rather how many frames from jump had speed gain.
sync = framesWithGain / framesWithMoveKeyPressed * 100
