losing speed while bhopping
Hey, I installed CS again on my new laptop (still shitty, won't run many maps on 100 fps) and I finally wanted to talk about my bhopping problem.
I had been playing KZ for years, and I've never been a great player (for example, my longest ever longjump was just above 254 with 10 strafes, but I could manage to jump over 250 a few times in a row at my peak, so it wasn't pure luck).
But I could NEVER bhop. Today I tried to look deeper into my problem and found the problem is that my prestrafes are extremely random - for example, I do a few good bhops and then I randomly lose most of my speed on like 5th bhop in a row, and I have to start strafing like crazy to get it back.
Also, the problem becomes apparent when I try to do a BJ (inb4 bhop longjump, not a blowjob): sometimes I do it good, but also often my speed drops to like less than 200 ups when I jump (I don't get prestrafes larger than 300, that's not where the problem lies).
The problem is that I find it to be totally random - most of the times I think did two jumps exactly the same, but first time it was good, and second time the speed dropped very low.
I don't think it's the problem that I have lack of rhythm lol, I'm an educated musician.
And it's not like I'm new to the game, I have had the problem for years and I have no idea on how to solve it.
I know it's hard to tell anything without a recording, but did anyone have a similar situation? Does the speed of scrolling play an important role? The number of scrolls per jump?
Or maybe the problem is that I've always played with shitty mouses (always cost less than $10)
Thanks in advance, guys
in this game is extremely hard to bhop without getting slowdowns. i experience your problem as well, bj are just too random. when i switched to $2 mouse to g402 my skill level started to increase. its a slow process though.. bj are so important because they determine (aside from skips and strafes) if you beat the previous record on a map or not.
reading your post it seems to me that you are having too many slowdowns, so i think the problem is the mouse.
if you want deeper analysis, get fame

I'd say it's the only thing that matters in bhop. You shouldn't scroll too fast nor too slow.

Sometimes you can mess up your timings and on such occasions extra couple of scrolls can save the situation.
Take a look at this post, here I explained some things that may not be obvious https://xtreme-jumps.eu/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?363816.post
Also you can record a demo so I could tell what exactly your problem is.
When I switched to a logitch mouse, it was a crazy step-up from my old intelli 3.0.
But I catch your drift, most times when you bhop, it's the first strafe after the bhop that is the most important to gain speed. This first bhop is the one you should practice. I'd say it's about finding the golden timing and keep the same pace throughout your bhop-combo.
You got it man.
From what you say my guess is that you don't strafe before each bhop.
In my experience the biggest speed loss when bhoping is the fact that you stop making strafes right before you bhop. To keep speed up you must constantly strafe. It doesn't have to be mad strafes, 1-2 is enough (4-5 if you get 300+ pre and need to recover speed)

Well, I'm constantly strafing, I don't stop even at the moment of jumping, my jumps are often in the middle of the strafe, and I'm doing like 4-6 strafes per bhop on average
If I weren't strafing, my speed would keep dropping linearly, but instead, it's dropping suddenly at the moment I jump
Thanks everyone for replies, I will try to follow your advices as soon as I get back to my laptop and probably record a demo

Back in the day doing a 10 bhop combo was an incredible feat, nowadays everyone would laugh at what was hard back then. But that does not mean it's not hard still...

if you think you "feel" the bhop rhythm and react(scroll) at the right time but the prestrafe seems bad then try to increase your mouse polling rate to 500hz or 1000hz. having the mouse react faster to your commands might help.
