Good old IRC cups at Discord

Hello guys, I've posted a suggestion in the news comment and within one hour got messaged by two guys (programmers) asking for in-depth explanation and it's extremely fucking awesome! I'll just leave an brief explanation on how it used to work in case there are more programmers would like to get into this. There are minor details I didn't mention so don't hesitate to ask. I'm also sure there are other guys knowing the "technical side" better than me, so we can use this thread to communicate and share the knowledge/success.

I'm just wondering how many of you guys would love to play cups of this kind? :D

"Basically there was an irc cup #XJ where all the registration took place to happen. Cup registration would start with !start 8/10/12 (or start !melee 8/10/12 depending on the amount of desired participants) command that an admin had to write to a main chat. These commands were processed by a @CupBot at #XJ irc channel and were further being sent to a gaming server bot. In order to sign up you'd have to write !add to a main chat. After an according amount of participants are registered, bot would pm every participant with a cup info (ip+pw / later on SteamID w/o pw). On the server an admin would have to lead the cup by commands (written to cs chat) such as !start !position !loser !winner etc.. After the cup time has ended an admin would have to choose losers by !position and write them down to the irc channel !losers Player1 Player2. Then @CupBot would eliminate and announce losers and the remained participants and automatically change the map. That's pretty much it. There are minor details I didn't mention because not sure they're worth of mentioning yet. If any questions - shoot."

this seeems cool to me cuz it will make more fun/interaction between players (so it means you just register via discord, no need to open cs until the cup starts... if didnt missunderstood the point of this :D)

didi you mean by this = plugin on the cs server ?

i tested and it works with communication SERVER --> Discord: https://i.snag.gy/W2KJbX.jpg

but vice-versa: if you go !add in discord , to be executed on the server, i dont know about it...

Oh old good days, I still remember everything how it worked , but it would be more classic and easier to make it again in an IRC chat ! :] Hit me up with some questions about it.

We have tried bringing irc cups back in ~2014-2015 but it didn't work, there was basically no one on the channel all the time :/

This might've been an issue but I'm still hoping someone would try to code a discord cup bot and if this won't happen then we'll sure might try irc cups :)
