Hello guys,

Is there anyone who has experience with running cs1.6 on NVIDIA RTX GPU?
Alhough the new architecture is clearly a better choice for everything else, the cs1.6 compatibility could change my mind :)

Thank you.

Why this thread, u can run cs on any GPU :p

running RTX is no different than running a fucking GTX or a damn radeon graphics card, still gonna render 1.6 using OpenGL u know that?

did you encounter some issues or still thinking about buying it cause it must be ok for cs1.6

Well, since I cannot run 1.6 on a gaming laptop smoothly (thanks to NVIDIA Optimus - didn't expect that), I am curious about compatibility with the new graphic cards. Furthermore, maybe you noticed ATI lags are well known for over a decade. Architecture matters and with the new architecture, compatibility problems (potential lags) could occur.

I would really appreciate answer from someone who actually uses it. Anything else does not help me. Thank you for understanding.

You can force the usage of GPU in Nvidia Control Panel so it doesn't switch between GPU and integrated graphics. So buying new laptop because of this is pointless

Basically upgrading to a laptop with RTX card means that you have better integrated graphics because of the new gen. CPU and don't have to worry about Optimus. (which still exist there)

i'm not using RTX but i'm playing with laptop and 1rst time i unstall cs i encoutered many issues mainly about fps being fluctuating. and what i've done was to change the maximal power usage of the processor to 70-75% and i reinstalled my nvidia driver.

hey ss! ive got 2080ti, i get 99.5 fps almost in 80% of maps but sometimes the fps drops to somewhere between 90 to 99.5 and its unplayable (atleast for recording but its fine for fun runs) i dont know its cuz of compatibility or its about maps but yeah i have this problem ...
i can try to play with my onboard (i7 8700k - UHD 630) if u want more information

I'm using GeForce RTX 2070..
no problem..not that I expect CS 1.6 to present a problem..
=)

Thank you PeKz and SadPuppy!! I will take your insight into consideration.

To my laptop situation: I have no other choice but run 1.6 on the integrated graphics. The state is exactly the same as PeKz^ describes (are you sure you are running it on the RTX?).
When the GTX is enabled, I have a strange output lag and the game does not run satisfactory.

i tried 1,6 on onboard GPU, 99.5 stable fps, so much better than RTX
dunno why but maybe 1.6 is too old for rtx gpus?

No. There's something wrong with ur drivers/settings

CamelCloudrecord holder20/06/2019 17:47

shouldn't be a problem, im on a 1080ti with no problems, even if its an earlier gen gpu.

I somehow think it might be connected to the high cpu usage even in lobby. On the previous laptop it was just up to 50% (i5 5200U) and now its more than 60% (i5 7300).

Do you experience the same, PeKz?

samps21/06/2019 08:06

Try reverting your nvidia drivers to 388.17 and see what happens when you force GPU

Hey, this maybe be dumb but did you try change Compatibility in your cs 1.6 aplicattion? Did you tryed all of then ?

Regards,
eeN

Max cpu usage I’ve noticed in cs 1.6 was 67% (dunno if its normal or not)

Edit:
@samps
Ive tried several drivers but didnt help
