2 releases a month
07/12/2019 17:29When people come to this website they wish to see new releases, this is the very essence of XJ, interviews, map releases, ROTW, etc., are just bonuses. The whole website runs around that idea, the less often releases occur, the less people will come to check this website. Currently there is 1 release a month, it just feels like XJ is nearing its end, what I would expect is at least 2 releases a month.
Many demos at once devalue most of them, with 20+ demos a release there are way too many wrs to watch so most people end up watching only a few ones. If you have 5 or 10 demos a release there will be much more people watching them and thus players will feel more rewarded. Players that are doing 1 or 2 wrs here and there have their demos lost among others...
Back in the days (~2010) you could expect a release every 3 days with 4 demos or so. Obviously the activity is not the same anymore, but from a release every 3 days to a release every month or plus it's just catastrophic (without mentioning the fact that there are enough demos being uploaded to do a release every 3 days but I can understand it takes a lot of time for the democheckers) . ROTW doesn't matter if it's linked to a release or not, just do one ROTW a month that will pick the best demo from the 2 releases.
When hoLy became CEO that was the only thing I wished to see, the result didn't match my expectations...
Drue, that's pretty drue. I agree with pretty much everything that's been said (I just wouldn't call 1 release a month catastrophic, but just bad... trust me, it could be worse, I have some experience outside of CS communities, where it was so bad it just died eventually. Consistency is the most important thing). Obviously 8-10 releases a month are just not gonna happen... buut, why is there 26 demos in the uploader as I am typing rn? That's a lot. It would be much easier and enjoyable to sit down and watch 5-10 demos every 1,5 - 2 weeks. But that would require someone who looks over the demos more than once a month (I do not know if this is actually true, but I assume that's what the current approach is), approves and then KAPOW, 25 billion demos and one huge newspost. Also XJ would need someone who would be willing to write some newsposts... more than once in a few months... or ever.
You also mentioned ROTW. ROTW (Run of the week) - it says week, not month... maybe we could fit at least 2 weeks in a month? There's a lot of people around here with an icon of a "Moviemaker", but I haven't seen ROTW (or any kind of movie) from anyone else besides Nubz, Blackelf and maybe + 3 to 5 people in over a year...

Agree on this.
Also if new maps came out a little more often it would affect the actvity positively, I believe.

08/12/2019 13:23I agree with g-Lp, let's say release once a week will be perfect. No matter if there's two demos or ten or set a limit of having e.g. 5 valid demos to make a release. I believie demo admins can handle this easily.

Unfortunately the only thing controlling the frequency of releases is my free time, which I don't have nearly enough of to provide constant releases. This is still after all just a hobby for me, that comes only after everything else in my life.
This is why I have now recruited new demoadmins to work with me, now the checking can proceed even when I'm not able to focus on it. Having 2 releases in a month is completely doable when it's not up to one admin alone. Weekly releases are something I just don't see happening with my current schedule, at least not until the new demoadmins can handle it all on their own.

almost 2020 and you cant understand 85% of users only join this website to see new wrs, not stupid ROTW, interviews or whatever shit...
@kyser, interviews are always interesting! but for rotw and other videos of runs i agree with you..better to consecrate on 2-3 demos per week(2) than excepting feedback/activity from videos

And you speak for 85% of the community? i doubt only 15% appreciate the interviews and the rotw's. Stupid post.. I for one love the effort people put in moviemaking and posts non-related to wr's. Just see how far kz movies and rotw's has come compared to 10-15 years ago. If people shared yourt attitude we would still see runs made from windows moviemaker.

Good for you to appreciate efforts.. people wants releases. I never see someone asking for more frequent rotws or interviews or other stuff.. people almost always want wr releases.
If u still doubt about it then think whatever you want.
ps: probably someone can missunderstand my point.. im not against rotws or interviews or every stuff related to kz, just like g-lp said, xj is still alive for wr releases and many many people join only to see that (myself for example) and tbh i dont care at all for other news
