Psychotypes

I've been wondering if you can read a psychotype of a person based on game style.

Like if you have a game style with slow hasteless strafes would you say that you're a laid back (or maybe lazy) kind of a guy?

Or contrary-wise if you have chaotic quick strafes does that mean that you're an antsy kind of dude with lots of energy, like to move etc..

Or if you get nervous in cups/wrs, do you also easily get triggered irl?

I can actually relate to some of these :D

Can you relate yourself?

i can relate that being very laid back and relaxed i do have really slow strafes, on the other hand (not really trying to get a wr or anything) trying to improve a map as much as i can also get pretty annoying with failing one part over and over again and usually give up pretty early.

on the other hand on dota for example, as i played competitive a lot, i dont get triggered at all and i think very rational and understand what the odds of winning and what needs to be done to get that would be. so i think it really depends on how good you understand the game (in my case atleast).

having a great understanding of the game would make you push further as you know what you are playing for and also you know you can for a fact do what needs to be done. in my case for kz i know i dont get much benefit from improving a map, just a very small pb, while on dota i know both me and my mates can do that in order to advance/win the game and probably even win some money/qualification.

in small talk, for the average man id say it depends on how much you think it means to you

You can always assume and guess how others are, but u never know, since everyone is different in their mood, their settings, setup and so on, unless you went through exactly something similar and you know the person already.. then u know ofcourse whats up most of the times.

i think the second one

contrary-wise if you have chaotic quick strafes does that mean that you're an antsy kind of dude with lots of energy, like to move etc..

Personally i like games with alot of action, movement, excitement, fast result and simple multiplayer / co-op games. But that doesn't mean i dont like slower games, i guess its about the mood and what each games does to each individual, just like music... if i play hard rock while playing KZ i won't have much fun. I believe everyone has their own way, their own music or toools when they play or record a game, i notice that when i dont put music for example it becomes boring after a while, so i always ask everyone if they LIsten to music while recording ? or playing?

I think there might be a relation between the persona and his style. I also believe that your current mood plays quite a big role, too. At times when I feel like deeply-calm and focused, as if I've balanced out my emotional state, my jumping is smooth and better coordinated than when I'm hasty/worried etc.

I'd like to hear IceVip on this topic, lol

Interesting hypothesis. I did some digging and found little to no evidence that support a correlation between personality traits and a certain play style. However, some evidence suggests a stronger correlation between age and play style. Which could lead us to believe that games that are fast paced and require more dexterity (Like CS) is more likely linked to age related factors. Which seems to be consistent with earlier research that emphasize the relationship between age, physical- and cognitive performance. Another thing to keep in mind is that the environment, psychological- and biological factors all play a key role in explaining a person’s behaviour. These factors are all dependent of one another and can’t exist in a vacuum without one’s influence over the other. The end results are nuanced.

Therefore, I don’t necessarily believe that we could identify and quantify personality characteristics simply by observing players strafing abilities. This has likely more to do with learned behaviour overtime – to the point of expertise – and physical capabilities (muscle memory). With that being said, I think it’s more quantifiable to identify some personality characteristics by observing a player’s overall performance in a broader sense. Is the player someone who takes greater risks and show more impulsive tendencies – or someone who keeps it safe and controlled? They might give us some clues, but probably not. Personality is simply too complicated and dynamic to be quantified in such manner. Let alone be categorized and subtyped into clusters.

Getting nervous during cups is not a good measure, how one can manage the stress tells about person at least something though. Those who ragequit under pressure are likely emotionally unstable personalities. Also, people who like winning (they come prepared to win) are naturally more disagreeable than these who don't care, which means they are same IRL. Besides that, I don't know anything about anyone from this game unless I learn more verbally.

I don't think that being nervous during cup have too much to do with personality, simply becouse sometimes people can come prepared and be confident, and sometimes people will just come by to have fun
Ofcourse, you can debate for some people, that are consistently having hard time on cups and it can be related... But not so much in general.. Some people would play even if they know they are not in form just becouse of their competitive side, and i never met anyone that would like to lose more than to win.
