144 hz monitor fps problem
Hello guys, i bumped into small problem, i had 60hz monitor and used to play cs go with 190-220 fps lets say around that, now i got 144hz monitor, and idk why but it cant be saved at 144hz in windows settings, max it can be applied for is 120hz, and also it gives me realy low fps like 90-110 i was wondering could anyone of u know how to set it to 144hz properly and lock the 144fps on csgo? Or its not worth locking it? I think i tried everything, every performance boost but somehow i cant get the fps going, i have radeon rx 580 8gb gpu, cpu intel core i7 3.4ghz, 8gb rams, any help would be appreciated!
You need to be using Displayport and not HDMI. Also it'd help if you actually told us what exact monitor are you using.

The problem is that you can not maintain stable 144 fps or more, so to compensate and so that you don't have any skipping frame moments, the monitor lowers its refresh rate to 120hz, meaning your fps drops below 144 but not under 120 which is somewhat good. You can't have 144 hz setting enabled when you don't have above 144 fps which are stable. If I were you I would play with a lower res and settings, so I can achieve a higher fps and keep the stable fps minimum a little higher, so I can enable the 144 hz.
P.S. Imagine the HZ and the FPS like two combs facing eachother. The refresh rate can be lower than the fps, ( I play with 200ish fps in csgo with 75 hz monitor) But you can't have lower fps than the refresh rate. There would be nothing to refresh.
12/09/2020 19:08Sounds like you plugged your monitor to your motherboard, not the GPU. I would double check that since it could be a reason for low fps as it's now running on your motherboard's integrated GPU.
You don't need high fps for high hz, those are 2 seperate things. As Evis said, I also recommend a Displayport cable or DVI-D which your video card supports. Specific HDMI cables still support 144 hz though. A monitor wont lower your fps and there is no point locking your fps. If it goes down then you can't do anything about it. But higher is always better.
