I use a program called Rainmeter with a mix of 3 configs called Hud.Vision, Uber simplicity and Enigma. i also spent few hours changing colours, fonts, shapes etc..

i hate much things on desktop :P

i use desktop for temporary things.

and when it looks like this: http://img360.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bgscreenwf4.jpg

then i go and move the files in the right folders and remove it from desktop ^^

same with startmenu.
hate to have thousands of directly links there and search thousand hours to find the program i need.
