-Arokh- has connected to the server
I just started mapping with the Hammer editor a week ago, took me a few hours to get used to the editor and after a few days i had a pretty good understanding of the editor, though im still learning new and more efficent ways to do things.
Anyway, here's my first 'real' map, took me abuot 6 days to complete.

This map was ultimately me seeing the limits and abilitys of the hammer editor and the HL1 engine. I wanted to see how much it could effectively render at what distance and how well it can do it.
It was initally designed as an FY map, but the wpoly count at it's highest is around 6600 and the epoly count at around 4500. So it probably won't run too well with 8v8 (on my computer, alone, i only drop to about 60fps, but im unsure how much that changes on a server full of people)
Now i've recently learned of ways to help keep that count down (too late to do to this map though, it'll have to be done on my next) but the fact that the whole map is pretty much visible spells certain doom for it running smoothly at it's maximum load.
Anyway, i just wanted to see what details i could put into the map, i havn't done vertex editing yet, that'll be next. I just thought you guys may like to see my first completed map for the hammer editor.

(the name is an inside joke, my brouther said "wow .. it's like .. dark .. with lights!" so i named the map darkwithlight)
Anyway, enjoy! expect to see more maps from me, and hopefuly a jump map in the future :)
Maybe i'll download tomorrow *yawn*
Btw "-Arokh- has connected to the server"?
:P
Congrats on first, looks pretty decent. I'll d/l it. <3 Arokh :D
i couldn't think of a subject headline :P didn't want to say "zomgfirstmaphereyougo!" so i put that .. in a way it means i've joined the ranks of new mappers :P
Thanks Al :)

nice map, my fps wasnt good though =(
Looking across from one side to the other, my fps wasn't good either. But cool looking map, while playing. :)
Yeah i figured the FPS would be horrid on some computers, which is why my next map will take much more care to modulate the rooms so the engine dosn't render everything at once.
The big hit is the fact that the skybox covers the entire map, causing the vis to render the whole map when it's played, but in the case of that map, i couldn't do anything about it, my next map won't just have a simple skybox around the entire thing.

that's actually pretty good for a first map, even tho its "just" a FY map, keep doing this and u may end up as a good mapper of the kz community...
i think its very very nice for a first map, and it looks über so gj, keep mapping dude <3 :D
nice first map :)
Dam the map looks so kewl ! Very good job

This is bad and a gameserver won't run it smooth. The standard wpolylimits are 800 and the standard kreedz polys are 1000-2000 without lagging. When you run the map on your lan server it is going to lag at the start right? And on a Gameserver it will lag twice.
A littel nice tipp from me. Try to find some ideas write them on a littel paper or even in the editor. And after that you find out which theme it would be fit try paint a concept on the paper and map exactly as the concept.
