Hi, hope this forum is the right one...

Ok...I want to learn a bit about moviemaking in generell, but esp. i want to turn my demos into avi's....

Some time ago i asked in the chatbox and rinkon said i shoul use "fraps" ect... but that was before my journey so i wanted to wait until i'm back...

Today I asked in the IRC, but either noone knew what to say or..hm...dunno. Finally 2 guys answered.
They helped me quite good (thx) but i've still problems/questions:

I downloaded "CSE DEmoplayer V3.2", "fraps" and "bmp2avi" but it didn't work properly.
I took one of my demos (~10 sec)
and tryed to turn it to avi with each of the programs...

with fraps i got a 21mb .avi which is laggy and which recorded my background-sound from windows (wtf)

With Demoplayer (and Bmp2Avi) i got a ->514mb - 8 sec demo<- which was mega-laggy and paralysed my whole pc...
I have a feeling that that's not correct somehow :P

simple qustion: what to do now? what have i done wrong?

(sry for the complicated text, but i'm new to this area)

cheers

BooLiSH20/07/2007 22:57

ok thx... i searched for it on google and found it together with a nice tutorial...

what i know have is an avi with better quality but it's still 360mb mig and lags a bit...i think because of the size...

unfortunatly the guide ended there and now i dunno wha to do...
i don't want any effects or so yet, first i just want a normal size... what should i use therefor? codecs or so right?

if you wanna help me plz tell a bit more and post concrete links..if you have done these stuff ever that shouldnT' be a problem for you..

would be nice

i was interested in moviemaking too. some friends recomended me fraps 2.9.1 and sony vegas 7.0d and ofc adobe after effects. but unfortunately i dunno how to use them so i searched in google too and found this site- click me they have video tutorials etc. hope they'll help me but if some of the moviemakers in this community suggest something different i'll follow their advise cuz i'm interested in cs jumping moviemaking not frag movies :)

BooLiSH21/07/2007 00:22

thx :):)

ok...i've an idea...
the guy from the tut. said i shouldnt compress it when i make the avi blabla...

now changed some settings just to try out...now i have a 20mb .mpg video with avarage quality... progress :D

ok i still wait for some wise words

BooLiSH21/07/2007 21:02

istalled vegas...but didn't get used to it yet..gotta search some tuorial...

tryed different codecs with videomach...
i get good sizes but at most avarage quality

I would suggest the following steps:

1. Create BMP files from your demos using the "startmovie" command in Counter-Strike
2. Use BMP2AVI to create a video from your BMP files (do this for each demo + it's best to create uncompressed AVI, because codecs usually decrease quality and if you alreay encode here, the quality of the final output will be even worse)
3. Use any video program (I think Vegas is a good choice, because it is quite easy to use) to add effects sounds and stuff
4. Output video of Vegas to (again) uncompressed AVI
5. Output audio of Vegas in for example MP3
6. Encode the uncompressed AVI (movie from step 5 with x264 (MPEG-4) codec - see this thread: http://www.xtreme-jumps.eu/forum_viewtopic.php?53.32827
7. Mux video and audio together using YAMP

Good luck! ;) Just ask if anything is unclear.

ok thx first!
äh... yes 1. is what i did/do
2. hm.. yes did that only with videomach
3. vegas? i just installed it some hours ago but didn't get used to it...yet
4. yes ok if i will be able to do step 3 this one will be possible...
5.didn't try to add any sound at all yet
6. ok i think that will be the most important step for me to encode it with a good result (size + quality)
7. that has time.. first the aother steps^^

i will try...

E: bah read ur thread... to "high" for me..seems like i'll need muuuch time for all this stuff :(

Then use Fraps + Windows Movie Maker. Easiest way, with decent quality.

BooLiSH22/07/2007 12:16

can i encode then? i remember i got a huge size with fraps?

Don't panic it's not that hard. Just ask if you don't understand anything and I'm going to help you out.

Until then, create your movie with Vegas. Take your time. Don't worry about encoding yet.

By the way the reason why I suggest x264 is that it is the best codec out there up to now. Vegas supports the encoding with WMV (windows media video) by default. Just a comparison when I encoded my movie (about 21 minutes in length):

x264
filesize: 370 MB

WMV9
filesize: 675 MB

Both files with nearly the same quality. x264 even a bit better!

BooLiSH i can recommend you this tutorial- link
I watched it yesterday and this morning when i woke up i took one of my demos and the intro of Flipsyde-Train and after an hour this is what came out- my first movie :D
But I encoded it with Windows Media Encoder following this tut- link
So my question is how to encode it with x264 or WMV9 it doesn't matter which one of these cuz i'm not satisfied with the quality of my first project :(

st0ka26/07/2007 16:46

stinnZ mapper28/07/2007 11:55

long time ago I used fraps to get a 3-4 second movie out of jump.

it was less than 1 mb, so are you sure you did everything right and its only 8 seconds,

BooLiSH30/07/2007 02:17
