Realistic ground WITHOUT using the triangle-m
Okey, here is a guide that show how u can make a nice ground without using the triangle-method.
1. Start by making a block that is 128x64 units large. Select the block and keep "shift" pressed down and move the block with "left mousebutton", (by holding down shift u will copy the selected block) put it next to the first block and repeat so u have a nice row.

2. Press on the Vertex Manipulation tool and select one of the blocks. Then drag the edges of the block so it looks like this from the side.

Then continue with the other blocks.

3. Now select all four blocks and copy them by holding down "shift" again, put them next to your other blocks.
4. Now select every line and move them up or down a little bit.

5. Press on the Vertex Manipulation tool again and then u select a block. Now you only have to move the vertex so it runs smooth with the block next to it.

Now do the same on the other blocks.
6. Then its finished! Here is a pic on how it can look when its finished:

Keep in mind that this isnt my tutorial, I only translated it from swedish.

GJ! i like it
gj but this tutorial is the same than for the triangles but with your technique your ground will be optimiz.
Your technique is limited too, you can't move the vertex like you want
gj
i like it, it looks n1 but i stay at the triangle method :P

I have already seen it on leveldesign but thanks for the guide ;) BTW Have u fixed the things I told u to?
I don't like vertex used "freely" :S
Can anyone post a link to the triangle-method tutorial please? i've never seen it

The pictures has always been like this, just open the link and refresh, and they will work.
Thank you, it's a nice tutorial!
I only have one problem: when I make the terrain, some of the brushes begin to disappear in 3D view. Lots of brushes are also shown as errors when I check for problems. Anyone know how to fix these things. Thanks in advance.
thats because of invalid brushes which has been made during the vertex mode.
that mistake is quite normal in the beginning.
open the showproblems dialog and fix them with it and after that you need to rework your terrain again because it might fuck the layout.
thanks, going to work on that now :)
