I want to make the outside part of my map look more like nature. I've seen that maps has trees and plants which isn't built by blocks. You can just walk through them. I wonder how to add trees like that into your map.

Thanks for responding

these are models which will be setted with cycler_sprite in to the map. but this isn't really good for much trees because hl is limited to a epoly limit too.

Igge04/09/2007 20:37

ok thanks for that. I got some different sprites which i got from downloading maps.

u dont need sprites for trees, u need models.
put a cyler_sprite entity where u want the tree, and in the properties search the model what u want.
u can also use modelviewer to see how the tree/whatever looks like. glhf :up:

but when i press properties a list of different .spr files appear. Shall i add .mdl files instead of .spr?

Thanks for the tip about modelviewer...it'll help me i think.

there should be a attribute called Model
where you can select the model when not you have the wrong fgd

Here is the entity code which needs to be replaced in the fgd. but this will only work with the hammer 3.5 beta

@PointClass studio() base(Targetname, Angles, model_seq) = cycler_sprite : "Sprite Cycler"
[
sprite(sprite) : "Sprite"
model(studio) : "Model"
skin(integer) : "Skin" : 0
body(integer) : "Body" : 0
framerate(integer) : "Frames per second" : 10
renderfx(choices) :"Render FX" : 0 =
[
0: "Normal"
1: "Slow Pulse"
2: "Fast Pulse"
3: "Slow Wide Pulse"
4: "Fast Wide Pulse"
9: "Slow Strobe"
10: "Fast Strobe"
11: "Faster Strobe"
12: "Slow Flicker"
13: "Fast Flicker"
5: "Slow Fade Away"
6: "Fast Fade Away"
7: "Slow Become Solid"
8: "Fast Become Solid"
14: "Constant Glow"
15: "Distort"
16: "Hologram (Distort + fade)"
]
rendermode(choices) : "Render Mode" : 0 =
[
0: "Normal"
1: "Color"
2: "Texture"
3: "Glow"
4: "Solid"
5: "Additive"
]
renderamt(integer) : "FX Amount (1 - 255)"
rendercolor(color255) : "FX Color (R G B)" : "0 0 0"
]

i got version 3.4. I can only add a sprite when pressing properties on my cycler_sprite. There is no model, skin or body. Do i have to download the 3.5 version to be able to add a .mdl file into the map?

shall i remove my hammer 3.4? I might need some Mirc help to be able to use mdl files in my map cause nothing special happened with this new version.

I might have a wrong configuration. I use the 1 i got on version 3.4.

yo don't need to remove hammer you have only the wrong fgd. i posted you above the new entity which need to replaced in your old fgd.

Nice. ty Pf0llz0r

Igge06/09/2007 18:54

ah now i got it. I changed the fgd file to the 1 pf0llz0r gave me. Now when i make a new entity a pink box appears with the entity name on it. And if i wanna go to properties a model option is now available. Thank you very much for the help. Its awesome to see you helping me with something so easy like this. Thanks you.

EDIT: In the text file pf0llz0r gave me it says "to ensure the proper function of active model preview in hammer, you have to place your models in the correct mod-model-folder (e.g. "cstrike\models\xx.mdl" or "cstrike\models\xxx\xx.mdl")

Does this mean that i can see the model in hammer. A tree instead of the pink entity box?

dEMolite mapper06/09/2007 19:24

you need to have hammer 3.5 for this.
and yes the all models in cstrike/models will be displayed then. but only when you selected them in the cycler_sprite.

Igge06/09/2007 19:28

but whe i start hammer it says that i hav 3.5. I took the 1 pf0llz0r gave me.

EDIT: Yup the models is now displayed in hammer :)

Wtf, so many posts but none has the simpliest way to do it :O

Just do 2x 1 unit thick blocks (or just one) that cross each other to make them look like " X "

You have to have a texture with a blue background which will disappear when you set texture mode texture or solid or something.
