when walking on my snow textures, it sounds like normal ground, not snow. my question is, how do i make a texture sound like the crunch of snow steps? :confused:

U can add sounds to custom textures
Open materials.txt in cstrike/sound

//-----------------------------------------------------------

// Counter-Strike

//-----------------------------------------------------------

// In this file you can modify the sound the textures give

// when the player walks on them

//

// Location: X:halflifevalvesoundmaterials.txt

//

// NOTE: only the first 12 characters of the texture name are used

// NOTE: a maximum of 512 textures may be tagged in this file

//

// 'M' metal

// 'V' ventillation

// 'D' dirt

// 'S' slosh liquid

// 'T' tile

// 'G' grate (Concrete is the default)

// 'W' wood

// 'P' computer

// 'Y' glass

// 'N' snow

leveldesign

Then u add this in the file

//------------------------------------------------------------

// ur-wad-name.wad

//------------------------------------------------------------

leveldesign

Then just add the kind of sound u want and then the texture-name

//------------------------------------------------------------

// ur-wad-name.wad

//------------------------------------------------------------

N "texture-name"

leveldesign

Then just compile and the texture should have the stepsound that u choose.

thats kinda what i was thinking, but if nobody else uses the file then it would work, ya?

yeah mabye for yourself pfollzor but it wont work for others... so theres really no point

Well he could add a readme (wich almost none read but anyway) with instructions how to add the lines to the file.

I was just telling that it is a way to add sounds to custom textures and those who follow the instructions will get the right sound (if they read the readme ofc)

you need to pack materials.txt with the rar but it is quite anoying because noone has the same materials.txt. So i prefer to search in materials.txt for the snow namens and then name the textures like them and put them in a wadfile.

clair mapper16/10/2007 11:14

that was my last choice... because i dont want to have to rename my texture as "snow" and use that wadfile solely, in case i decide to fish around for another. it seems as though i may be stuck with this route though.

like dEMolite already said... easiest way is to rename you own texture like a original snow texture. but make sure that you don't load both wad-files in your compiler/hammer... :)

clair mapper16/10/2007 11:46

yeah thats why i didnt want to do it, because i like having a large selection of textures to choose from :( but i guess i could just change it at the end.

how to add steps but not snow steps hmm fire steps like lava or so :? ty

dEMolite mapper03/11/2007 02:11

if you had read the whole thread you had known that it is impossible to add steps for more then one persons. You should look in the materials.txt and rename the texture like the sound you want to have.
