On January 29th, 2008 at 08:38 asteroid 2007 TU24 is just 551,000kms from Earth (1.37 lunar distances). This asteroid is approximately 400m across. It is classified asd a potentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) by the minor planet center.

it's coming quite close to the earth with 0.0038AE (568000km [1.5 x moondistance]) but the predictions say clearly that its passing.
Surely it is scary but we are gone in at last a billion years anyway. There is so much that can harm us and the universe is sooo big that its unlikly that we will ever find other life. There are much more depressing things out there (for exemple the music of the second vid) :P

btw the 50m WD5 asteroid one day later is not going to hit the mars as predicted.

On January 29, 2008 Asteroid 2007 TU24 will flyby earth at a distance of 1.4 Lunar Distance (LD) which equals 384,401 km, the distance between Earth and the Moon. 1 LD also equals 0.00256 AU. The size of this asteroid is 405 m which is large enough to cause regional damage.

This orbital simulator shows the current trajectory of this asteroids course towards Earth on December 11, 2007.

On January 29, 2008 Asteroid 2007 TU24 will be .0045 Astronomical Units (AU) away from Earth. One UA = 150 million kilometres or 93 million miles the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

Stayed tuned for more updates on this close approach of Asteroid 2007 TU24.
