Imo, lol is mostly used incorrectly. It's probably used more correctly in chat applications such as mIRC but is used in a total different sence in e.g., teamplayed network games where it can mean more like "that's stupid" or as in a astonished kind of way, like "how the hell did he do that".

That's from my personal experience tho :)

Lol is a native Dutch word (not an acronym) which, conveniently, means "fun" ("lollig" means "funny").
