No Checkpoints?
Just a question for all of you guys with the demos (kimo, target, fikon, faker, etc.). How the hell do you guys do maps without checkpoints? I mean, I consider myself a fairly good jumper in that I can do every map no problem and most shortcuts, but what gets me is how you guys manage to not use any checkpoints. For example, on kz_ea_beneath, when I get to the top of the first room on the spike strafe jump, I get so nervous and sometimes fall because if I mess that jump up, I will fall down to the beginning. The same with the other maps. How do you guys not mess up at all?!

just keep training and try the hard jumps for several times with checkpoints (shortcuts).
so u get a feeling and learn the maps, u know where to go without thinkin about it.
if u do all jumps ez u can do them in a run without faults too, if u try long enough
I got nervous 2 back in the days, just keep up teh good work ^^
I dont know how I manage to do the hard jumps...Im just doing them...Guess Im used to it
Only answer:PRACTICE
:)
I never climbed a map without checkpoints so far. My best result was 5 checkpoint and 10 Minutes climbtime on az EZ map.
But I nearly climbed one map a few months ago but the time was up just before I got to the top. THIS MADE ME SOOOOOOO ANGRY!!!! aaaah :(
not only guyzz with demos can beat maps without cp's ;)
Well, I've only seen the guys who submit the demos jump (by watching the demos), so that's why I directed my question towards them. ;)
and u know what... ur first post and ur signature (lj record) dont fit together ;) u know what I mean? :p
mh u cant say that eiRa.
i did 240 units some weeks before i made the first map without checkpoints (erarock :E)
i did sandblock (with knife and cps) some weeks before i did the first map without checkpoints, too.
then i discoverd a new aspect in juming: luck, nervousity, patience and stuff :)
and that u only can get real skills if u learn it without cps ;) (i discovered that much too late, thats why im still a noob in some apsects :()

I said I can do every map and most shortcuts and by every map, I mean every kz_ map and some of the others (sn_ etc.). Also, I would like to add, that I can do them with usp as well with the exception of a few jumps (first longjump on sandblock for example). And...when I try for no checkpoints I usually end up doing something stupid like backing up too much on the block and falling or messing up my multistrafe. Therefore, my 245/255 longjump records make perfect sence.
then I think u need to spend less time on ur lj and more on actual map :D
hmm im not nervous anymore when i do recs, i stopped 2 be that after i had recorded maybe 4-5-6 demos. :) Or actually i am nervous if i got a uberh4xm3gafl4xx1337 run. :p
I'll hand that one to you eiRa. :P I just can't help it! Longjumps are very addictive. :D
Longjumps are boring, my record is 234 and i can beat maps like everest without checkpoints.
If u mess ur multistrafes may be is cause u do them when u dont need to. I see lots of ppl fall down cause they do 4 strafes on any jump that can be made with 1 or 2.
btw i can multistrafe and prestrafe, i just cant do both together, that's why mi lj record is so lame, but most maps dont have jumps longer than 230 units so it's not really an issue
well they do the map over and over again till they get it all right :) then they will record themselves
Okay, so what is "pre-strafeing"? Is it where you perform one strafe right before you're about to jump off the beginning longjump block? If not, correct me please! :)
Ive done well over 100 maps without checks and my lj record is 231 so i guess that lj multistrafeing, something i havent even tried to learn yet, is not so important.
you could do this tenub: the jumps you are nervous about, CP it and practice it over and over. once uve got it, try a real run and do it :)
but hell yeah i get nervous, i was doing the last jumps on the tree of man_climbers, so fucking nervous thought i was gonna wallbug or some shit, but didnt :D mwahahaha
nerves blow the run almost every time :(
when I was still a no0b i fell down 8 times from the last jumps of the giantbean in kz_wsp_islandclimb
a nice solution:when you reach a certain spot of the map and your hands start shaking or something go and drink a glass of water and rest then continue :)

it takes time, but in some maps you can get really pissed off because the price of one miss can cost everything you've done so far in that particular map
f.e. miss the pre-last jump in azclimb and you're dead
died like 4/5 times there
