ROTW #201 - shooting-star on risk_factory + Release flashback

By shooting-starrecord holder Tournament #1·
Hello XJ,

As promised with the occasion of ROTW #199, we bring you even more to read this time.

The last release brought some truly spectacular demos. The heroes starring in these were asked about their demos and more, check the extended newspost to be stunned by the words of Flibo, g-Lp, and discover the new experience of shNz!

As for the actual Run Of The Week, shooting-star's run on risk_factory has been chosen for several reasons. One of the special ones is the fact that it is a result of kz-random challenge, which is one of very few ongoing kreedz competitions with prize money. We sincerely hope that it will change soon and there will be more competitions like this one. We asked WOOF, who is the KZRA challenge sponsor about his motivation to support the kreedz world with his money. Since fykseN has recorded a WR time on the mentioned map as well, you can read his point of view in the extended newspost as well.

Featuring: shooting-star
Map: risk_factory
Realtime: 02:26.53 (-00:14.67)
Previous holder: LEWLY
Moviemaker: blackelf

an interesting read; well done shooting-star; now tell us how that ladder sc works :)

19/03/2018 15:42:00

Gj SS And BTW kz-rush also give price money in offline tournament

my bad, nice to hear that!

19/03/2018 17:43:00

Several times actually.

19/03/2018 15:46:00

mmmmmm.. okayh

19/03/2018 15:58:00

i dont want to be the asshole, but terrible choice of rotw, ok, alot time improved, but also alot mistakes, rotws runs are supposed to be a run without a fail, a perfect run, if not just put azure 2 here instead... also we had so many great demos at this Release, seriously... someone can explain this choice? really bad =/

19/03/2018 17:01:00

You are entitled to have your own opinion, so the demo will be always subjective. I won't debate that. But, ROTWs are exactly NOT what you explained. ROTWs were created as a marketing tactic to attract new players to this scene. It needs to be a smooth run, great environment, appealing map, and other things like that. It is NOT about the perfect run, no fails, wow run, 3428342893 strafes and all that. After all there's no such thing as perfect runs.

19/03/2018 17:24:00

particularly, smoothness does not match at all with shooting-star and his demos although most of his records are insane, so i dont get what is your rotw concept.

19/03/2018 17:39:00

Truth be told, I also expected different choice for rotw, not just because it was from kz-ra's challenge. Yes, it doesn't have to be a perfect run, but as kyser said - shooting-star runs aren't the most visually appealing either. In fact a lot of noobs without wr's have better looking style than his (no offence ss)/ His runs don't get into you with that type of personal satisfaction while watching. Of course, I do like watching shooting-star runs on his best and favourite maps where his style shines, but this one was a no-no. Kind of reminded me on that kz_highlands rotw, there were much better runs of ss that could have been chosen for ROTW throughout the years. Also, a lot of people are always waiting for names like "shNz" and "g-Lp" even if their runs aren't the perfect picks for a ROTW. According to what a "ROTW" means, this would be the best marketing tactic. You had a name, you had a visually appealing style, you had a decent run = ROTW.

19/03/2018 17:44:00

Oh and I also forgot the maps - there were other great maps both visually and popularity-wise with decent wrs on that release, so yeah...

21/03/2018 21:55:00

Come on, beating a LEWLY record with 14 seconds is pretty saying for what the "new" generation bring to the table.

19/03/2018 18:35:00

Well its not that much big of a deal,it got improved by 15 sec and its a great time, and just like kyser said, the movement does not make the video smooth and enjoyable, well i was expacting catacombsbhop to be chosen,it was a.sick run,but still this run is also good, only the movement of ss is ruining, otherwise its a really sick run

19/03/2018 16:45:00

+1 rapha Burrow would have been better

19/03/2018 17:01:00

catacombsbhop, burrow, downfall[race] were much more pleasing to the eyes, in terms of perfection.. agree with the boys about the bad choice. btw, im starting to hate those long shnz answers, to lazy to read :/ keep recording my friend, always a luxury watcing your records shnz!

19/03/2018 17:08:00

Huh? Did you skip ROTW #200? Not trying to accuse anybody, but that demo looks damn cheated lol. Never seen such edgy movements and weird "bumps" (look at 1:38). Is that because of the video edit? Looks suspicious otherwise.

19/03/2018 17:11:00

I guess it was a matter of time until someone asked such a question. No, we didn't skip anything. Read previous news... When you say it's cheated, you are already accusing. By saying "not trying to accuse" followed by an accusation, it means you are accusing. Understand how logic works?

19/03/2018 17:28:00

Having a bad day? Calm down. I didn't say "it's cheated", I said it looks cheated and was asking if it's because of the video edit. Well, is it? I don't read the news entirely because it usually it's repetitive and doesn't contain much more information. This time I should have, my bad.

19/03/2018 17:40:00

7D also had such style, could be caused by high sensitivity and nervousness.

19/03/2018 18:29:00

@Flibo your contribution to this article is the most interesting one. I remember watching your demos back in 2013 with my jaws dropped, and I couldn't see a clear path to the improvement. You are right about the doubleducking thing, new techniques and as a climber, you certainly noticed the "blocktime pursuit" brought in by shooting-star, rOboTaa, Toffifee and other lately active climbers. Every next generation must be heavily skilled to overcome the previous records, because of the new techniques and ridiculous bhop/dd amounts. This is, for me, the reason why you can't expect rising activity or huge amount of new names. Nowadays it just takes too much time to learn all that. Thanks for your insight into this matter, it was really nice to read. @shNz you're one of the few players who perfectly adapted to changes, you're always ahead of the curve (for almost a decade now?!). The part about your fusion with new mouse and the feelings connected to that is correct and for many players realatable, altough I don't know about anyone who would pick Zowie as their "KZ mouse". The paragraph about "zoning out" and enjoying the recording itself as something relaxing really motivates me to record some more, because I know I'm going to feel like this. It wasn't always like this, I used to pursue records because of my desire to be one of the best, but now it's just something I like to do when I have some spare time. Cheers and good luck with mahjong and the other map you always wanted to be perfected.

19/03/2018 18:55:00

About ROTW, i agree that there were better demos but if it wasn't for that specific one, i wouldn't have known about kz-random challenge and WOOF sponsoring it. Amazing interview SS, just read every single word. Gotta say that shNz words on last paragraph are so accurate that gave me chills. " While working on a record, you have to let your mind go blank occasionally and zone out of the game, as sort of a countermeasure to the preoccupation with the imperative task of taking the record, if that makes any sense. I mean, if you’re too conscious about your run, the pressure to hurry arises as if there is a monster chasing you from behind, and you know, it’s absolutely horrifying in all its ridiculousness." This describes exactly how i felt in all my wrs but i will add something else that happens with me : As I approach the final seconds of the map with a enough WR time, I just feel that monster whispering to my partially blank mind reminding me that i am recording and close to beating that record resulting in sweat all over the mouse and sometimes, depending which map and my current time, shakiness.

21/03/2018 21:54:00

Haha totally, I know that monster. I once recorded on a map called waterfall, and I failed the last jump 2 times. Which means I went all the way to the end of the map, with a wr time, and then failed the LAST fucking jump. It's not even a hard jump. It's not even like semi hard. It's just a regular old jump.

19/03/2018 19:25:00

Come on, there are tons of other ways of showcasing that challenge, even better ones because some people just watch the rotw, don't read the text. (I used to do that in the past lol)

19/03/2018 19:42:00

So the people has to vote for ROTW's in the future? maybe idkn... anyway gj ss for taking this map and edit is good as well... thanks for the interviews... Great job XJ.

19/03/2018 20:29:00

nice run man

20/03/2018 00:20:00

what da fak guys? risk factory improved 14 sec. is it bad demo huh? great choice. ofcourse there was many beast runs.

20/03/2018 00:23:00

@shootings star's run The theme of the discussion was beyond ROTW's choice, it was about the shooting star's abilities. I must say that the guy is a freaking monster, from techniques like kkz jumps, and dd up to consistency in block times. Kreedz goes beyond the smoothness and beauty, and ROTW shows it. @gL-p I love the style of the guy .. Since the time we used to record surf.. And as we all grow up, we have to shoulder responsibilities and not play as much as we would like. But I hope he can stay on the scene. @Flibo Great reading. I went through the phase where kz did not interest me too, but I always visited the site months in months. I also hope to one day see him picking up the map again. @shNz Dude, that was deep. : D But good luck with the mouse, everything is a matter of adaptation.

20/03/2018 03:03:00

ggg

20/03/2018 19:48:00

gj guys

21/03/2018 21:46:00

Great ROTW. What a sick improvement and what a beautiful record from our #1 jumper. Nice interview with Flibo always good to hear what he has to say (except when he said that the duckbhop on awp_rooftops was hard) - Hhaha. I also saw alpine as ndR's map to be honest. :) shNz you have a great writing ability. I always enjoy reading, your long statements and twisted yet sparkling mindset, especially when it comes to recording. Facinating that you could go from a logi mouse, into something different and still remain great. I remember going from intelli 3.0 to g5, it was like having the power of some super human in my bhops. Good to hear that everything is possible, even without these prefered mouses. Thanks for making this to everyone.

29/03/2018 01:19:00

Well, I'm a bit late, because I postponed reading of these interviews but well. Great to read them. Especially shNz - man, I would like to read some kind of articles written by you, that would be great, you can catch reader's intrest, Gj!
