Poll on demo releases
What about adding a poll into new releases. We could vote for the best demo of that release.
After 10 (or X) releases, one or some owners of demos-winners could be gifted.
Then there could be something like a poll for "A demo of the month/year" with votes of last 10 (or X/or one months polls) polls winners. And so on :P
Also this could be done with the map releases. Would be fun to vote for a "The Map of the Year". And so on :P

should be ahndled like the "goal of the week/month/year" in the german bundesliga show xD the weekly winners will be added to a vote so we can choose the winner of the month and later the winner of the month to choose the demo of the year

24/11/2008 14:57What if a demo gets beaten which is already picked as demo of the month for example? That would happen pretty often and can be a nuisance, also coding of the system can't be too easy :/ And probably, I think that SuPa or heL would win it pretty often :) But otherwise, it's a good idea!

Then in a "demo of the year" poll, demos which was demos of the month but got beaten, would not be added. (Same in a "demo of the month, if 'demo of the release' got beaten, it won't be added).
And what about maps. I think adding this poll to map releases would be really awesome. :P
i posted the same idea some months ago.. but it wasnt a very popular thread -.- everyone said it wasnt a good idea =P
and i had none replys from the admins.. so gl FoF
We tried something like this at kz-sca...But people just commented on what demos they thought was the best. We were going to choose winners and stuff to but i guess i forgot about it or something, so it died out :P

So you're saying if you have a release with sandblock, goldbhop, highblock, and pianoclimb against literally any other release possible it would be the same?
I'm just saying you could have 2 really great demos in one release and then no "really" great demos in the next one.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea I'm saying the way fof suggested to do it is bad.

@ sigh and @boom ... It's really EASY to tell which demo is the best of the release. Once you factor in the amount of hard bhops/combos/difficulty of map/time on each jump it isn't that hard.

well for instance we have releases like this:
Rlease#1:
kz_cg_extreme 8:00 by Aplayer
bkz_goldbhop 1:20 by Bplayer
random_map xx:xx by Cplayer
random_map xx:xx by Dplayer
Rlease#2:
random_map xx:xx by Eplayer
random_map xx:xx by Fplayer
poll#1 winner: bkz_goldbhop Bplayer
poll#2 winner: random_map by Eplayer
and now we have a poll "demo of the month"
so we care about kz_cg_extreme and goldbhop and random_map(Eplayer), we know that kz_cg_extreme demo is wayyyy better than that random_map demo, but goldbhop still owns kz_cg_extreme, and we don't lose anything, because on this vote "bkz_goldbhop or random_map" goldbhop should win.
Well people have different opinions which is the best WR even if it's easy to say which was the best. It's good to have a poll where everyone can vote.
This post is much better than the last 1 where "best demo of the week" was suggested. With the best demo of the year it's more reasonable with a reward.
I don't like the idea with the best map though. People can judge a WR because they know all things that is hard/easy, such as Supa explains. If you want people to judge maps I think you should teach every member how different maps are created. This is almost impossible and therefor the maps will be judged for its jumps, fps and architecture. Not many people will understand the work behind it. Thats why I think it's unfair to the mappers.
The best WR demo poll should be open to every jumper, which is almost the whole community.
The best map poll should be open to experienced mappers.
