Intro:
This is no 90C wall surfing technique. We all know what Surf and Wall-Bug are. Combining them we get Wall-Bug Surf. And yes - it is possible. We can surf on 90C walls using Wall-Bugs. However, we can surf only down (but we can get horizontal ['strafing'] speed up to two times higher than vertical [fall] speed).

Prove:
Here you go a DEMO example of it.

Explanation how to do:
First take a look on the IMAGE.
Now an explanation what keys I was holding in the demo. Just like in the original surf - I was holding only D. Also by changing angle what I showed in the image you can control surf speed (the higher angle - the higher speed. But making it too big will result in falling from the Wall-Bug). Sometimes you get stuck in the Wall-Bug Surf and have release all strafe keys to ungrab the wall. However most of the times when being stuck you can continue the surf simply by making a Double-Duck or making bigger angle from the wall.

Use:
Some of you can say that this has no use in kz maps. Well, I can already give a map where using this bug you can make an uber short-cut. It's kz_deathvalley uber sc with wbs (red - Pre-Strafe/Air-Strafing; green - Wall-Bug Surf).

Read before posting:
If this is old for you or you think that someone somewhere done it some time ago - don't write it in this thread, cuz purpose of my post is to get this technique in official xj technique list what means that is it new or old for you doesn't really mater's and we don't really need this offtopic discussion here.

All walls can make this bug?
I think it only work on some special texture of the map.

It doesnt work on "straight" walls, dno what to call it, like walls like this it wont work: ___ and |, but it do work on walls like this: /

NumB06/02/2009 17:11

Yes, it works only on walls what horizontal angle isnt:
0
45
90
135

nice found, gj.

nice. works very well for me. but I have problems with "catching" a wb, esp on deathvalley

Fluxey06/02/2009 18:17

that sc u posted, is that even posible with this technique? :)

Yes. When was searching for sc example - done this first try. But later couldn't repeat.

Fluxey06/02/2009 18:22

wau.. nice one indeed, but i guess theres a long way b4 this is done in a wr on any map.. But who knows righ't? ;)

Ryderc06/02/2009 18:41

Numb did it !

This is not the "jump on wb" but this is a good start :D
This is old, but nobody think this bug can be exploited, and all think that was just a weird kind of wb and useless.

Well, nice works :)

could I get some explanation about what WB is actually ? (it would be better to be an answer from some AMX scripter or eDark)

NumB06/02/2009 18:53(edited 06/02/2009 19:00)

Wall-Bug is when you strafe in 'non-block' wall (wall what by your horizontal view turn isn't 0C or 45C or 90C or 135C comparing to hl engine), when touching the wall - hold your strafe key what pushes you tourwards it. And suddenly all your speed resets (and vertical and horizontal).

P.S. The lower your horizontal speed is - the bigger possibility that wb will acor.

Ryderc06/02/2009 19:04

And we can found a link between the "angle of the player view" and the horizontal angle of the wall ?

Yes. You just have to look how the map was build. For example let's take a little part from de_dust2. Red - non wb wall; Green - wb wall.

Om106/02/2009 19:37

like Ryderc said, this is old just never thought about exploting it.
Ï wouldn't call this wallbugsurf, cus it's just wallbug like everyone is used to it. even if your gonna call it something else than wallbug, don't make it wbs cuz that's like the short-term of wallbugs in plural.

thats ez.. btw it is logical that the max reached horizontal speed while WB-surfing to be 277.. just like that fast run tech (run + stucking with the wall)

Oddi^06/02/2009 19:38

Nice found! Going to try this now :D I knew that you could move while wbing but it was always just by accident, didn't know you could actually "surf". Can you change direction while WB-surfing?
