Well, there seems to be at least two fundamental sides of this case, and I'm not even sure if everyone is talking about the same in this thread.

1. Bhopping on a flat area (e.g. go_fastrun) to get as fast as possible from A to B just bhopping on the ground only with or without standups.

Here you want to know if the greater distance that standups usually gives, will make you reach B faster, even if your jump time on each standup bhop is longer than normal bhops. Supa said perfect bhops, but I do believe that standups generally gives a greater distance.
Remember that if you're bhopping in a straight line, you will duck in the end of each bhop when you do a standup bhop, but you won't duck at all when doing normal bhops, that is why standups are good for skips on bhopmaps, but normal bhops might give a pretty nice distance too on bhopljs (cause of the duck in the end), or if you mix them like so:

Normal bhop, standup bhop, normal bhop, standup bhop, etc.

I guess the only way to find out is if you know the max distance a standup bhop and a normal bhop gives you. Knowing that + the jumptime you can compare them as two equations, and see which one best pays off on a certain distance.

2. Bhopping on a bhop- or climbmap (e.g. bkz_goldbhop) to get as fast as possible from A to B bhopping with or without standups.

Here the answer should be obvious, cause standup bhops have a longer jumptime than normal bhops. Maybe you can do more skips with standups, but lets say you're jumping a map like cg_coldbhop_v3 (not official) that barely has any skips. No standups would definitely be faster.

EDIT: Feel free to correct me.

v=l/t
l = length of the way
t = time it takes

It does matter how long it takes cretu :)

SO every theory of mine starts with a condition .

If max distance of a regular bhop is the same as the standup then ........

So i think what i said is correct .

In order to answer supa we need to now EXACTLY how much units you can jump with every tehnique . Right ?
My theories are formulated on a hypothetic bases .

I don`t think maxspeed matters at all . I don`t care if you can go from A to B in 5 minutes , 3 minutes or 3 HOURS if the distante from A to B is the same every time.

why the fuck u are talking about bhop's lenght ? his question is about WHICH WAY IS FASTER not THE MAX DISTANCE w/o standup... and yeah MAXSPEED REALLY DOESNT MATTER how fast u'll go... and yeah you really dont care about going from A to B 3 minutes, 5 minutes or 3 hours like u said
If his question was about bhop's lenght.. u would find this thread at longjumping section...

p.s. I was talking about flat area, not bhop blox (cuz u can skip some with standups)

You don`t have to get upset ichwill :) . Please don`t kill me :)) .

I`m saying another thing . The faster way is not influenced by the tehniques that you use .......is influenced by how you make you`r strafe`s .....right ?
LETS SAY THIS :
A...I finish the map doing 100 strafes , each strafe has 250 units long , each one is made with 7 strafes ( small strafes) .
B...I finish the map doing 100 strafes , each strafe has 250 units long , each one made with 3 long ass strafes .

Isn`t A the faster way to go ... ?

Anyway i`m in marketing not mathematics :)) so i can`t be killed for posting my opinion even if its a wrong one :D .

It is faster to bhop WITH OUT standups on bhop blocks, because ur time with stand up a bit more..

But on a flat area it is faster to move WITH stand up, cause u will slowdown to 299 a bit later..

Well now I got what u said, but actually u must measure with u/s or distance per time which means that the strafing number doesn't matter if u do the same distance with 3 or 7 strafes on each bhop.. but anyways every1 know that with more strafes u can do bigger distance.
And pulsar is right about bhoping on bhop blocks, but look what I said for a flat area^^

puppetz got it, duckbhop would even be better. the only reason you do standups on bhopmaps is to be able to make more skips etc.

You slow down to ~250 more frequently when using regular bhops. So standups are faster.

I'm pretty convinced that standups are faster, when jumping in a straight line from A to B.

It's much easier to control one standup with 3 strafes than doing a normal bhop with 3 strafes for a long distance, since you have more time to perform each jump.

With a script - I dunno - and I don't care.

It's a totally different discussion when we talk about bhop-maps in general. It's all about the perfect combination between normal bhops and standup-bhops.

If two blocks are close to eachother, it's ofc faster to skip one of them. But if you can't, then it'll be faster to normal bhop them, but then if you reach the middle of the second block, you might have troubles skipping the third block. Then it would have been faster to standup the first block, in order to reach the edge of the second block, which would give you a speed boost to skip the third block.

So that's a way more complicated discussion :).. And most of us know it by heart anyway.

stormzz is faster than standups or normal bhops;e

Standups have that x amount of extra airtime that gives the advantage over normal bhops. Now it's pretty easy to show that extra airtime gives advantage. Imagine if you had twice the airtime of a normal bhop. Would it be faster? I can't see why more airtime would be a bad thing.

In bhop maps I could imagine normal bhops are always faster than standups unless you can skip blocks with only standups (pretty rare case). Standups just make it easier but with an expense of time.

calm down ladies, just duckbhop

What can I say? Just watch go_fastrun_BupTuk_0032, arent those perfect standups?

Whats dthe diffrence between duck and stand-ups? I thought that u only could duck bhop in aa100 if thats what u meen? :o

avatar is right but it deppends about the map

MoNkisback20/07/2009 13:07

normal is faster but standups comes longer bcuz when u duck u have more airtime floating down and then when u hit duck and jump again u get a bit higher means a bit more speed more time to pull 1 more strafe

indeed, if u do some bhopblocks and u CAN'T SKIPP its faster to bhop , not standupbhop, and for flat , u do wat u need to do ....

it doesn't matter the time in air difference between stand and no stand, whatever that time is if u do alot of bhop blocks it adds up.

MoNkisback20/07/2009 19:10

ofc it does if u come higher up u can pres A or D 1 more time and 1 more strafe can higher speed but if u lose speed on 299 pre but that still help cuz 1 strafe can make u jump longer
