ok let's starts, having much projects etc were his choice, but he wasn't your little dog doing what you wanted him to do, even if you don't think like this, that's what I felt when I read your post.
Sometimes you can't just say "I leave the project" to people, i'm pretty sure that if he would say goodbye by normal way, he would be at the same point as now : hated by people he promised something. The easy way was the best one there, leave him alone, let him live his life, and if you can't find anyone else for your little smart movie, who fucking care ? This guy wasn't only the guy who was making your movie, he was a human and he still is, but now he lives surely better :).
Doing pressure on a movie maker is the worse thing you can do to get your smart-ass movie. Remember it.
If Twiped comes over there, he was a good moviemaker and he did the best choice he could do.
