Hey dudes !

Now, times and times I've spoken with people from other country about our countries, like with sAllow about the school system, and then I found it very interresting to learn such cultural things..

Don't know if it interrests someone but this thread has for objective to compare our cultures .. So let's tell about your country :) !

here's an example :


In france we got "maternelle" which is the very first school, like kid garden .. Going there at the age of 3 or 4, can't remember, and then stays here for 3 years, then "école primaire" (primary school, literally) from the age of 7 to like 11, and so for 4 years u're going to something called "collège", where you begin to learn some real things, and then "lycée", where you begin to choose what you will do in the future, after 3 years (so 18 years old) you got an exam called "bacqualauréat" which is the most important exam of your life, but this isn't enough at all to get a correct amount of money, so usually serious people goes for 2 years at least of more studies, but some likes medecins goes for 8 more years after, and most of time begin to works at the age of 30..

The first time we begin to go to school at 7.
Primary School. We are there the next 8 years. "8 grades" ..
School as a school, from easiest to most difficult.
Then after the primary we are going to high school.
High school lasts 4 years. (4 grades)
It is very difficult in relation to primary school ...
Then after the high s
we have the opportunity to enroll college ....
Of course if you were good in high school you can, if not go and dig...

and after that if you have completed college ...
you got the job......if not go and dig again...

In Lithuania we start at age 3 or more in kindergarten (darželis in lithuanian) when you reach 6-7 yrs you go to Primary School (pradinė mokykla in lithuanian) there is four grades. You stay in primary school untill you reach 10-11 years, than you go to like high school(vidurinė mokykla in lithuanian) for another 4 years till grade 8th. When you finnish 8th grade, you can choose:
1stay in high school,
2go to vocational school (profesinÄ— mokykla in lithuanian (profkÄ— in slang)) there you can choose some kind of professions and learn it with default subjects
3go to the gymnasium (gimnazija in lithuanian) there you will get a better certificate or smth its just more difficult to learn in gymnasium.

After 12th grades, with good examination results you can go to university and get an education.

There is baccalaureate (bakalauro laipsnis) after 4years in university, if you want to continue your studies after two years you get an master's degree or magistracy (magistro laipsnis) and after idk how many years you can defend doctorate (daktaro laipsni).

In Estonia, mostly we start off by going to playschool. The minimun age for that is 2 and maximum 5-6, also it's pretty hard to get a place there in bigger cities and you have to register a place for that many years before. You mostly just play and eat there, but in the last year you learn writing, reading, basic maths and painting.
After that you go to the first school (at age of 7, sometimes 6 and 8 too). First school is usually a part of bigger schools, but also there are some stand-alone ones. When it's a part of bigger schools, it's usually 4 grades long, but if it's stand-alone, it's 6 or 5 grades long.
Then comes the primary school. It officially starts from the 7th grade, but when you learn in bigger school where the first school is a part of it, the primary schools starts from the 5th grade. In 8th and 9th grade you have to do exams, in 8th you can choose one exam, in 9th you gotta do 2 (maths and estonian) exams + one that you can choose yourself. Some people decide to go to vocational scool after that, some people just continue learning.
After that you can go to high school aka Gymnasium. Gymnasium is from 10th to 12th grade and ends with some important exams that you have to pass. Then again, some people decide to go to vocational scool, some people continue learning again.
So if you decide to continue learning you go to the University, and that's it.

The only time you'd not have to pay for college is if you get a scholarship. There are thousands of scholarship opportunities, even if it's just one for like $5000, you're still saving a lot. The average tuition + dorm in the US is like $20-$25k a year. That is if you're going to a private college, not like a community college where anybody really gets in. Most of the colleges I'm looking to go to are around $45k-$60k a year. Because the cost is so high the colleges usually end up paying about $25k-$30k as a scholarship. And for some, if you have a low income you might just be able to attend tuition free.

45-60k for college lol! That's like 3 years of a standard work here in Sweden I think :P

well the roads in romania sux so i never recommend you to come here because the points of interests (turistic points) are very nice but you simply can't go there because of the roads! and the politicians won't do anything because they're just STUPID :D they go for "taking money from the state's agents" but they never reconstruct an important road!

so , let's talk more , first , at the age of 3,4,5 you go at kindergarden (gradinita in our language) and then you go to primary school (there is no exactly name in our country , but the word-to-word translation "scoala primara") and from the 5th class you go at "gimnaziu" . Then at "liceu" and then you go at the exam "bacalaureat" (lol we are preety like in France) and then at "facultate" beginning from 2 years then you can go work or do a "master" to do something special.
