Hi all ,i have one serious problem ,and that problem is :
I make a movie using Sony Vegas ,and when it comes to RENDER that movie ,i select .wmv , MODE : Bit rate VBR Frame rate : 60.000 Seconds per keyframe : 3 and BPS : 4,5 but i have BIG video size .. ( 3-4 min 1 GB+ ) help me ..
I'm wondering ,and asking from XJ -users some Proprietes SETTINGS and Render AS settings ,i want to have good quality and small video size ( like 100 MB - 300 MB ),such as Chosen ,he made a 3 minutes video with 160 or more MB .
Please ,help me ,thanks

rK25/11/2009 13:44

well, I think there are tons of tutorials and guides how to get good quality with more or less small file size...

but why do you use 60 fps if you want to get good quality?

frogen25/11/2009 15:20

agree with rK

dust1NN25/11/2009 15:56

rk ,can you give me 1 link of one tutorial ? i am a kinda of begginer in sony vegas .
can you tell me some render settings ?

frogen25/11/2009 16:39

there is alot of tutorials on xj, look at easy h264 tutorial by Avatar

use x264 in FFDSHOW and 30fps for youtube, for startmovie use around 360fps if u gonna use 40fps final_xvid (from 8ball1)
imo 30fps is perfect and 300fps+ in startmovie

rK26/11/2009 10:04

ehm 40 fps dont give you better smoothness

hmm ye i made a mistake sorry, 30fps is smoother - u can see all the frames well,

boom.dll26/11/2009 14:06

@ rK : actually increasing the output fps, does increase the smoothness of the clip (the "flow" of the clip) but it does look also a bit unrealistic... so yeah... 30 fps is teh way to go (+ it gives smaller filesize) ;P

boomdll come on steam ,we'll speak in our language :D

so if 40 fps are smoother than 30 or less... why does cinema movies got 24 fps and are smooth as hell? movies on blue-ray discs have got 24 fps too and they look ubersmooth. its all about bitrate and, for sure, the ratio of i-frames and b-frames

V0ncH...26/11/2009 15:10(edited 26/11/2009 15:14)

to all, u do know that the human eye can see 24fps, so 24 - 30fps is the best for vegas output- its easier to see and doesnt hurt ure eyes.
for lolz - i remember by fact or fiction, it was 59fps, sorry but that actually was hard to see and concentrate on: it was too fluid and my eyes couldn't keep up with the smoothness.

Lo0k used 800fps for venite, and 40fps output 960x540, the quality was quite good imo, it depends on the startmovie fps aswell; however i would've still prefered 30fps or 35fps for all movies

you are going to win this, cuz i cant argue with your arguments :D , but do keep in mind that 1000 fps captured for slowmotion in a game has nothing to do with 1000 fps captured on a real life situation.
dunno if you`ve watched "Time Warp" on DiscoveryChannel... well... look it up on youtube if not... you will see there that there is such a big difference between real life and a game. thats why i do agree that more than 30 fps output is just not necessary. you just cant notice the smoothness...

imo... for a normal moving clip... without slowmotion (eg : battle movies/wr runs/standard clips about tjs...) 120 (maybe even 90 lul) capturing fps is enough. it gives you the necessary smoothness in the movement, without looking laggy.

@ Dust1nnn : pretty busy mate...we`ll talk during the weekend.

yes I know about that problem. But now we are talking about capturing. You are totally right with your point that ingame capturing and reallife cameras are 2 total different things.

If we record with a normal camera, the camera just takes full pictures of the whole situation at the moment. But if you stop a film/movie/clip you can see that everything is blurred and objects which are moving fast seem like a stripe. This results from the optical photograph system which doesnt take the exact information of the facts at the time when the frames are captured. it only takes the incomming light informations and saves them as a frame. So the frames are not a real copy of the reallife (because time and therefore objects always move and never stand still)

On the cs capturing method with startmovie we get PERFECT frames where it seems that the time stands still and the frame shows EXACTLY a copy of the game at this moment.

This can be a great advantage because we have a sharpness that will be never able to reach by a normal camera. On the other hand its a disadvantage. For example we need much more fps because a moving object needs several frames (which are added together in a frame later) for a smooth movement.

The developers of hlae also realized that problem and made us a really nice function which is called "sample frames". It directly takes lots of frames and saves just one frame as the final product. So we can produce frames which are similar to the natural ones of a camera.

This is prooved every day by us ourself if we capture witch 30 fps, render with 30 fps and the movie looks like shiat because it is laggy as hell...

(sorry for the bad english but I hope you can mainly understand the facts)

well.... maybe I edit it later and extend the post because I did not really reach the point that I wanted to ^^ but my food is ready and I take lunch now :)

rK i want something from you ,that is :
open sony vegas ,and tell me what i have to put on Proprietes and rendering settings at .WMV RENDER .
And how i should record ? mirv_movie_fps 120 and in vegas at render fps 50 ?

rK28/11/2009 09:37

I always vary my mirv_movie_fps. For example I used in AYNIT 300 fps. In other projects I often used 200 fps and 1.000 sps. I would recommend 200 fps and 1.000 sps for really good smoothness. But I dont say anything below is bad.

200 fps should be enough for a smooth video and you are allowed to set velocity to 20%.

In vegas I always render with 29.970 fps (ntsc).
Sometimes I used 25 fps which are fine too. So I my view everything between 25 and 30 fps is good. less fps cause unsmoothness, more fps cause worse quality.

Im gonna give you my wmv rendering settings later because I cant open vegas atm.

V0ncH...28/11/2009 10:52

@ rk, didnt u use 300fps and 900sps for different styles nuke?
imo that was really smooth, also i used 300fps/900sps in v0nch vs bashor on mdx, its on youtube.com/tlascar if u wonna check the smoothness

Youtube isn't an example of smoothness, forget it.

+1

I can remember these settings:

AYNIT: 300 fps
different styles 2: 200 fps; 600 sps
different styles 3: 300 fps; 900 sps
different styles nuke: 200 fps; 1.000 sps

Best quality I had with 300 fps and 3.000 sps but capturing 40 seconds took one night ^^

edit: oh no, remember quality test with 2.000 fps. For sure this was the best :)

[blockquote]rK's render settings for wmv9:

Project:
- | -Video rendering quality: Best

Audio:
- | -Mode: CBR
- | -Format: Windows Media Audio 9.2
- | -Attributes: 192 kbps, 44 kHz, stereo

Video:
- | -Mode: Bitrate VBR
- | -Format: Windows Media Video 9
- | -Image size: Custom (HD=1280x720; HQ=960x540)
- | -Pixel aspect ratio: 1,0 (important!)
- | -Frame rate (fps): 29.970 (you can also use 25 or 30 fps)
- | -Average bit rate (bps): (matters on your resolution; I recommend 5-6M)
[/blockquote]

Actually I do not recommend wmv9. Its a good codec for beginners and dadies who want to save the holiday movie of his familiy but it was not made for serious moviemaking and high compression.
