like Tloft said, sometimes older drivers are better for some games then newer drivers (same with my old ATI, used old drivers = everything fine - newest = only problems) with my Nvidia i use newest drivers and no problems :D
May try older driver or grab a Nvidia Graficcard^^

lockpick, 9800 and 4850 are very similar, considering the 9800 is about $20 cheaper. but either card destroys cs, css, and most games out now.

definitely not lol

9800GTX+ IS very similiar to 4850, 9800GT is ~ 4830

you`r problem is the ATI card .

I had that 4 years ago ( with a brand new realese on the market ati card ) .
Swithced to Nvidia , no more problems.
Back to ATI ( i was forced because the computer was very cheap and camed with ati card ), counter-strke problems again .

Now nvidia 8600GT, intel dual 2G ( is not that good ) and i have 100FPS on every map , it doesn`t matter where i stand on the map , ALWAYS 100fps ( 500+ fps on de_dust2 without any players and dev1).

Try to change the settings to the ATI card to BestPerformance then best quality and so on . Try to create a new rule for the steam aplication in the ati control panel or something like that.

If that doesn`t work for you download another driver for ATI , not the official one , i remember that long ago there was an "underground" driver or something like that.

I`m pretty sure that is not the CPU because i used athlon , sempron , intel p4 , intel dual core and NEVER had a problem as long as i had a nvidia card......

Or , use no-steam 1-2 minutes and see if you have the same problem . Maybe you`r steam files are corrupted. Try to remove amxmod ( the addons folder and lblist.gam or what the name of that file is).

I know what you think about no-steam , but is just to see if is the configuration of the game or is you`r computer , just to be sure. ( you bought the game anyway)

TlofT21/12/2009 08:34

not to get too far off topic, but cretu, the processors that could get 100fps keep getting progressively better with all the extra stuff steam throws on top of cs. with steam itself (after the won network), then with the extra interface of friends, then the ingame ads, and all these updates, a p4 couldn't get solid fps anymore, although it was more than enough a few years ago.

and as far as i know, changing the quality settings on the card won't help much because i think its just the way ati renders simple images like a cs frame, and you could use 16xaa 16xaf and it would still render inefficiently

u destroyed ur chance chrizzo now u never get ur pc fixed

erii1k21/12/2009 09:26

you guys cant even read hes friend had 7950 gx2 not 9800 gt

Cretu21/12/2009 10:05(edited 21/12/2009 10:06)

Do what i said , the works case scenario is that you will be sad that it didn't work.

Maybe try to use steam in OFFLINE mod . Maybe every time you`r fps drops steam is trying to send some information somewhere , i don't know . It wouldn't hurt to try. ( this is why i suggested non-steam test)

Already tried nonsteam, offline mode and everything. Not working Cretu. I will a lot of different drivers now, just to check if it works. I already tried the most of your aspects though.

To be a bit more exact, here's a short quotation of my r_speeds:

Maybe I will have the chance to try a nvidia grafic card. That would probably be the best solution to try it out.

I will install catalyst 9.1 now. Newest version is 9.12. So that driver is the oldest one I can have with vista x64. Let's see!

Cretu21/12/2009 11:31(edited 21/12/2009 11:38)

have you tryed another OS ?
Just for kicks , try windows xp sp2 ( not sp3 ) , install it over vista and at the beginning , when the computer si booting choose XP , see if it works then .

Try to install XP on another partition then STEAM , this way you cand use steam without another install . Just install it like a normal program.
Try this .

Maybe is the OS , not vista persey , maybe because of x64 , at least you will know where the problem is even if you really want to keep your OS.

LATER : I just noticed that the drops are at a regular period , 6-7 good ones , 1 bad one and so on . If this is right then i think you have a software problem , not a hardware one.

chrizZo21/12/2009 17:56(edited 21/12/2009 18:00)

I had xp32 professional and home, xp64professional and vista 32. No matter what OS, I still have the same problem.

By the way, the older driver didn't work out. Same problem.

Cretu21/12/2009 20:10

omg.....i don't know what is the problem...

change the graphic card into an nvidia card , if doens'w work it must be you'r cpu.

change cpu with your ati card , if i t doesn't work i have no ideea.

another cpu , another graphic card. Like i said , mine is intel dual 2G , 8600GT .......

i have no ideeam, sorry

akkord mapper21/12/2009 21:18

your attempts to fix other pc problems are just ridiclious
* change the video card
* buy another cpu
* install another os

.. seriously those are no real tries to fix it, if you dont know anything about the actual materia of the subject then dont try to help

TlofT22/12/2009 06:17

lol yeah akkord, cretu, although that might help, its hardly feasible to buy a test graphics card, then another better one, then reformat with pro, reformat with vista, reformat with 7. and even if you make partitions, thats an extreme pain. cpu swapping is easy enough, but its annoying to move the fan, and who has many cpus laying around of the same socket?

imo, software and cfg is the best way.

chrizzo what drivers are you using? catalyst or just normal ati drivers? i havent used catalyst in years, but i think older versions of them might help.

and i'm guessing no luck with affinity/priority?

Cretu22/12/2009 09:43

common guys , i was just trying to help .
Even if i would have told him to make a fire , put the cpu there , put it back in the computer , AND is still help :))) a very bad one but still.

What i said in my last post are the worst things you can do IF all the other software things don`t work.

Who buys a GFX to test cs? Just borrow one from a friend ....

Sorry for trying to help:)

chrizZo22/12/2009 14:20(edited 22/12/2009 14:25)

yea, akkord don't flame people who want to help. It is not fair.

I'm using the catalyst TlofT. Just installed the oldest existing version for vista 64. It didn't make a difference, just my fps went down to 24 instead of 29.

KraXXXel told me I should use the omega driver. He had the same grafic card and the same problems. The omega driver fixxed it for him. I will try it out now!

edit: The omega driver only works with vista 32 bit systems... :(

eDark22/12/2009 14:42(edited 22/12/2009 14:42)

you ll have to disable the "Driver Signature Enforcement" for vista-64bit ...

press f8 on startup and select the option but this solution isn t permanent so you should use a boot tool for vista 64bit like vistabootpro

this is a pretty common problem on vista 64bit ...

capuT22/12/2009 15:18

I got a 9800 GTX+.
Got the same problem, when I had my ATI gfx card.
Was fine when I used the driver from the CD I got with my computer, but after I've updated the drivers I got FPS laggs on every map where you can see much.
Actually the same problem like you.
I solved it by using my driver from the CD.
Easy job.

chrizZo22/12/2009 15:25(edited 22/12/2009 15:39)

I will try the driver from the CD soon.

eDark i don't think that is the problem, since I have the same problem on xp as well.

Just tried d3d. A good result!

Actually I can move and it doesn't lag at all. I can feel that I don't have 100 fps, but I'm able to jump. I will continue finding the problem though.

caput: can you tell me your driver version you are currently using? maybe you could even upload your current drivers.
