All questions/suggestions/feedback about the Kreedz Tutorial should go in here.

Other than that: Good luck and don't forget: It's all about having fun :)

What about a tutorial on water strafing?

kafds27/12/2009 01:10(edited 27/12/2009 02:21)

The beginners don't know anything about basic stuff, for example something like a regular jump is 215 units long - some of these basic jump facts should be told in the tutorial, and then compare with world record jumps for them to see the difference. 272 block instead of 215 is a HUGE difference and people will want to know if it really is possible/true.

Also for the people who randomly stumble upon the kreedz video tutorial, there should be links provided in the video for each national community, so that the viewer can check a website that uses his own language and other interesting stuff that he understands better.

The guide is very üb0r by the way, I'll edit my reply if I come up with any REAL things to say. :)

Yeah water strafing would be good.

PS: I read all the tutorial. It's amazing. I now understand some more things about JBs and the others tehniques where you don't lose HP (or just a bit).

How about ground strafing?

m0ver27/12/2009 13:28(edited 27/12/2009 13:43)

You should put fast ladder climbing, ladder jumping (helpful in regular cs), ladder bhop (like in wsp_airpino). Also, you should add drop techniques such as drop lj aka wierdjump and drop cj.

For lj maybe a top down picture could show how prestrafe looks like with wiggly air movement. Also, lots of demos could be added demonstrating
- prestrafe, like 10 attempts in demo
- 220, 230, 240, 250lj
- lj with 2, 3, 4, 5 strafes because proper strafing is hard to learn
- same for cj, bhop, wj, ladder jump...

Maybe some quick 'n' dirty demos on some maps, comparing regular one jump per stone vs. bhop combo. Demos are lot easier to understand esp if they are recorded with show keys. Plus it takes bandwidth to watch youtube movies which have annoyingly long intros.

It would be nice to have a tutorial overview, showing the plan and having links which move you to a specific segment of tutorial (something like Rules Navigation @ Rules page.

Agree with Brendo. Also mention (with pictures, everyone loves pictures) reverse bhopping (and example sc at kzsca_dawn) and strafe jumping.

That's exactly what I came here to write. :)

An index menu with anchor tags would be good since it gives the user an overview of what's in the document, it makes it possible to link to specific topics within the tutorial (i.e. xtreme-jumps.eu/page.php?59#airstrafes) and it makes it possible to jump directly to the segment that they're interested in.

Making this index menu wouldn't even take that much time, the classes already exists for every heading/subheading (.bbcode underline (for h1) and .bbcode bold (for h2)), one would just have to manually add id's for those or write a script to do it. I could make the menu markup if you'd like help with that.

Oh, and great job with the tutorial btw!

Nice tutorial but I'd love to see water strafing, and this one running technique (sorry I have no clue what it's called),where you start running, duck every time you hit the ground and strafe in between.

kafds28/12/2009 15:39

Thats groundstrafing fizik. Its used quite alot these days so including it there would be a nice thing in my opinion too.

Add info about setting up everything for playing such as
- how to get FPS to 100
- launch parameters: -nomaster -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noipx -nojoy -freq 100
- using mouse fix and disabling acceleration on Windows prior to W7 and special way for W7

Also, info about ducking over small holes like in rpz_duck.

lonewolf VIP15/01/2010 01:24

what is -noipx, nomaster and -nojoy?

n0xxer.15/01/2010 07:22

i was wondering that too.

V0ncH...15/01/2010 11:20(edited 15/01/2010 11:21)

its mouseaccel stuff
i use -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -jlook

works fine, but my strafes sometimes are fked, then i need a small while to get them back :S

its all about testing different mouse settings

Dunno actually, got it long ago and now I simply c/p :D

But that info is necessary for any beginner.

teco24/01/2010 13:08

-nojoy and -noipx removes joystick and ipx connection settings and gives your more free RAM.

Any one have a tip to Come back with strafes and such when lost them all on cjs realy I sync like 26% pff

kafds09/02/2010 17:46

If you used to jump with, lets say, 7 strafes back in the days when you were at your best, and then you quit for some while and came back you shouldn't try making 7 strafes right away, since you wont most likely be able to sync them (at all).

Its quite recommendable that you attempt to control a very low amount of strafes and work your way back up. Try with 3, if your synchronisation of the strafes is approximately 80 percents or over, try 5 until you manage to get a proper distance/prestrafe/synchronisation combination at a stable rate.

Synchronisation is propably the easiest to improve by just doing slower strafes and trying to find out a style that provides you the best sync.
