I can record a demo starting from the strafejump on the climb part till the end that is at least a second faster than the way it is in the current wr run, following the same route, and I’d probably be doing it 10/10 too. The whole thing, it’s just a typical bhop combo with nothing hard in it, so it must easily be doable in a run. In fact, there is no reason to consider this record special in terms of flawlessness and it is still a major surprise to me that nobody has officially taken it down yet.
So then it must be the psychological aspect that is holding us back. Basically, by the time you reach the middle-climb part, you’re not the same person anymore as you were when you started the run and that is the problem. The difference between your starting condition and the latter one is almost absolutely indiscernible as a hands-shaking effect, yet it is a crucial factor preventing the completion of a flawless run. It’s like a static pressure, an emotional dead center that must be overcome for triumph to take place. If only this false, exaggerated sense of significance attached to the idea of this utterly meaningless achievement that sets in motion the mechanisms of anxiety could somehow be switched off at the right moment, it would’ve been ridiculously easy to finish a 1:26 run. The other alternative is to indulge in ferocious geeking, failing at the easiest combo every time until you slip into this particular mindset which allows you to remain nerveless for an unusually extended period of time, but it happens like 1 in 10 000 runs or something so it’s very annoying waiting for it.
