As has been already noted by level2 in this thread you can use BSPEdit to make some entity env_rain. Just have a look at de_aztec.bsp, you need some block to assign it too I think (i.e. use Nemesis' BSPViewer to find one out of the view, since it will disappear in-game, on aztec it's the one in the blocked water way at the CT spawn).

However as far as I understand it this method would require you to record the demo when playing on a server that already has the modified map, since the entities are spawned by the server and their spawning is recorded to the demo.

It would be possible to spawn rain in a existing demo by triggering the spawn event from a plug-ing or modifying the demo itself, however I don't know of a plugin that can do that (with HLAE you can spawn / block smoke in cstrike btw).

So far I have seen only one movie that might have used a modified de_dust2 map to spawn rain:
CS Legacy MorsA

I had an tutorial on that, but for most mappers it's really easy and since the easy way can't add it to existing demos it's not really useful to most people. Apart from that it doesn't look good.

Using camera motion data and may-be depthdump you can create a far superior weather effects in a 3d program (motion data for rendering the view on the map in your 3d program, so you get bounces of the drops etc. on non-dynamic stuff, depthdump for quick-masking content covered by players based on distance).

But I am unsure if it's really worth the hazzle.

PS: cl_weather takes values from 0 - 5

What at least used to work was to first view a demo on aztec with cl_weather 1 and then view a demo on dd2 and it would also rain on that map. Can't remember the exact steps, but play around a little and you probably get it right.

Well, I actually think I've done it once when I was just bored and trying some different moviemaking-stuff, but I have no freaking idea about how I did it.

Anyways, I think it's possible to spawn entities in maps and demos via txt-files. At least I've heard about ppl doing it lol, but I unfortunately don't know how to do it or if it's in fact possible, or just a lie...

oh, and as chosen said, release the goddamn tutorial! Don't hold it back because of so stupid a reason hahahahahaha
It's like this with every new thing, just like dubstep, over-done colours and unoriginal tricks. When it first pops up, it'll get whored 2tm.
Besides that, people will find out to make rain themselves anyways at some point, you can't really stop them from doing it by not releasing the tutorial :)
