Place to start the run from

I know that i can use a teleporter or hook to get for example to a higher place, so when i fall, i press the start button and gain some speed boost.

BUT, what happens if "I" cant get to that place.
im gonna quote xj here:

"It's not allowed to use teleporters or hook to get an unfair advantage, means gaining more speed or reaching an unreachable spot (to start the run from)."

so, what happens if i want to get to a higher place to start the run from, but i have to jump a 272 high jump in order to reach. IT IS POSSIBLE, if i do a double count jump (lets imagine i have plenty room), i mean FOF did it.

Can i use a teleporter or a hook in that situation ?
if the answer is no, do i need to send you a demo proving i can do the jump?

I think it's irrelevant, because there probably aren't any places like that in maps. The rule applies to situations like that one map (alienbase?) where someone noclipped to some off-limits room and pressed the timer through the wall to make a run that lasted a few secs.

Let's say there is a 272 to some area you want to be at, if you can climb up the map and drop there somehow, then it's legal etc.

There still should be some limits imo.. maybe wr+5 units? Because if there still is some sc which requires a longjump/countjump to reach there and it's.. 500 units, then ofcourse it's impossible and should not be allowed.

Trolis17/06/2010 00:06

But he's talking about extremely hard cj to do in a run, which is WR, but it's possible, and done by other players. That's dilemma

PoshitO17/06/2010 00:23

not IN a run, before starting the run. ( and just using hook or a teleport)
i think the limit should be the actual bj/cj/lj record.

uffo.17/06/2010 09:17

no matter how hard is to climb there, if it's possible - you can hook there.

Let's imagine that the place you start the run from (jump down to the start button) can be reached only if you're able to jump 300 units. Now, how can you say if it's possible or not? That place could be reached with double-countjump - world record is 272 and by getting there, you actually set a new dcj record. But it's so obvious that it's impossible to jump 300 units with one of the existing techiques, so that sc would actually not be allowed.
So there should be some limits for cases like this.

Someone once had a nice idea of possibly putting two demos on the .rar archive. One of the actual WR run and the other one where he climbs to the spot where he started his run from.

One solution would also be that you can start from wherever you want as long as you touch the block in the demo afterwards without using any plugins to assist you.

Just throwing some ideas to solve the problem.

this
except for: If the place you start from is not reached normally in the run, you should only make a demo of the jump to that place. Except for a full run.. Unless that's what you meant or I'm being dumb and stressed.

I'm not completely sure what you were trying to say, but yes, a hybrid would be nice. If the spot is not reached in the world record run, there must be a demo of you climbing to that spot.

I have another question about this rule: who and how decided if the place unreacheble or not ?

Trolis18/06/2010 02:10

If no one did it, its unreachable. My guess.

PoshitO18/06/2010 02:25(edited 18/06/2010 02:28)

i think a "reachable spot" should be decided by the actual wr longjumps.
But that means i could start a run from a place i cannot reach, BUT another player can so its legal...

take a look at what flibo said, seems like a nice idea to me.

Flibo's idea is good. But that would accept only for the cases where player doesn't reach the spot during the run.

What if the player uses ledging to reach an unreachable place? Ledging + gstrafing you can pretty much go anywhere, only thing you need is a little ledge to get in the air. (eDark #2) :)

which actually doesn't exist o.O

Okay, I found an unreachable spot in kz_ea_harbor: http://i47.tinypic.com/2hnaozk.jpg

If someone decided to start their run from there (don't really see the point, but anyway) that would be considered cheat according to this rule? I have never supported it and never will.
I think it should look like "You aren't allowed to use hooks or other 3rd party cheats before you start the timer, in other to get to an advantageous position." - That means that you can of course hook your way to the timer, if you would just have to run anyway, but hooking to a spot where you jump down and start the timer from isn't legal, e.g. kzno_xtremeblock, kz_stoneblock, kz_42_amazon, etc.

Anyway, I think the rule is especially supposed to cover cases where the climber "starts" in the air by gaining speed with his hook when he is up there. You can adjust your hook speed to something quite ridiculous (at least the ProKreedz hook).

then you could just as well start on some of the roofs or some other reachable spot. I don't think this situation exists on any map, at least not without alternatives.

remember that it should be a gay block also :P

I have another example.. What if that place can be reached only with 250x15 ? We know 250 is possible, but nobody did 250 15 times in a row yet.
