Death

The past few months I've been thinking about something. Have you ever thought that all the people on Earth will eventually die someday? This includes you, your family, your friends, basicly everyone you know and ever knew. I was asking myself what would it be when you die, will it hurt, the cause of it, it may be an accident even. The next moment away from reading this thread you may go the local shop to buy some pepsi or something and a car may hit you and kill you instantly. Ofcourse, this won't happen ,but you know there's always a possibility and the chance is real. It's a really strange point of view as you think of it.

I've been thinking of death in a different way also. For example, imagine your life in like 50-55 years, when you may not even be on this world, but if you are imagine yourself with all these shitty pains the old people got. Not be able to see, all your limbs hurts, your back, your spine, having heart problems. Most young people don't really realize that they're in the best age they'll ever be in their lives. A really odd feeling strikes you thinking about it, well atleast me. Often I think, if I wish for an eternal life, like Dorian Gray did, would I regret it with the years, with the sight of my close ones dieing infront of my eyes. Maybe I'll regret it and wish to see the covered up picture on the wall. Thus runs my thought recently and I decided to make a thread about it.

Here's another strange thought-what is the purpose of life? I mean really, what are we doing on this world? Many of you will say, for example to create a family, get a job, a wife and these kinds of stuff. But why? How do you think your lifetime will contribute to a completely different(not saying it's not your blood or anything)person, from yourself as a whole being? I mean what do you do in your life? You walk around and do stuff. It's pretty weird, when I'm thinking about it everything ,everywhere, anytime is useless, because someday it'll be gone and not needed by anyone. We're just born and die. Although this pesimistic point of view, this is just a thought and it's not really how I feel about things.

Life

Couple of years ago I felt the burden of the first real drama of my life. This was a really, really difficult period for me and I had a hard time going throught it, but I managed to, because I had mi best mate having the same shit as me. I'm not really writing to describe the drama of my life, but the point was to say that after all the shit I dramatically changed, to good that is. Hardly you can say good either. I came upon realizing that I love life so much. Everything is just perfect right now. Absolutely perfect. My mother once told that life is like a Ferris wheel, when you're down you know that it'll turn back up, which ofcourse symbolizes the happy moments, and really I'm sure she's right. That's exactly what happened with me, which reminds me-since I'm up, I'll eventually have to go down again. But in more global point of view I thought of the very 'down' possible, and this is Death, the reason I'm writing this thread. In spite of the fact I said life is useless, it's just an other way to see things, and I really love life. Everything in it.

After all, life can't be worthless. It just has to mean something. We can't exist on this world just to die? I mean the lifetime story of every individual, the good, the bad, the happy and sad moments, and when you die-poof, that's it game over. No,I'm sure there's something behind all this, maybe a next life or something. I do believe in this things.

Equilibrium

After thinking about it, I've decided to add a new paragraph, about equilibrium. If you've read my theory above, you're probably guessing by yourself that it must be everywhere. I mean it's almost like a law. The law of live itself. Whenever a person dies, another one is born, on a distant, or maybe not, place. But this is a fact. It's just the normal cycle of life. This proves my theory about everything. When you're down you will get up. It will happen, maybe not today, nor tomorrow but it will someday, no doubt. All in all, this is a really global topic and I just felt like sharing these thoughts I've been having lately.

So, yours truly retires, leaving in you in thought about life and death. Atleast this was my intention by creating this thread, and if I haven't succeded to achieve that, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

nobody^21/05/2011 09:29(edited 21/05/2011 10:40)

Well written afty. My theory about afterlife and this might be the right place to share it. So, let me begin. Have you ever wondered... You may had already lived another life before this, before everything, but how could you tell? I hardly believe that when I die, no matter if it's today, tomorrow or in 80 years, I will live another life, not sure if it's going to be the same like this one or I will be another person. I just believe that life is a cycle, cycle that can't be canceled. For me, life is having fun, with family, friends and relatives, making news friendships and many more. Live is fun! Sure, there are problems, tough times, but when you are havig fun, you simply don't remember the bad stuff. My opinion is that you have to stay positive! As Tupac Amaru Shakur (1971-1996) said, "after the night there is a brighter day" That means that you mustn't give up, stay strong!

To conclude with, that was just my point of a view, never said that it goes the same for everybody. I am interested to see other persons' views of what life actually is. :)

tl;dr

btw, the world is going to end today.

Puppey21/05/2011 09:39(edited 21/05/2011 10:13)

That's not really your theory nobody.. many other individuals, with a far more superior intellect to that of yours (and mine) have been pondering that possibility since the dawn of time.

nobody^21/05/2011 09:40

Sure, you are right Puppey. I just couldn't express myself in the right way.

When you die your soul goes into a new body, and you live a new life not knowing about your previous one.

Ye, I thought about life and death. Don't want to wright too much but thats not so bad that we are mortality, because immortaly - its a curse(for God its granted, for people - curse). We have pretty much time for doin our earthly matters. So we must work hard, enjoy from every day of our life, don't think too much about death, and bit new world records on kreedz maps! Amen! (C)

great thread aftermatch, i've been quite a introverted person since i got into puberty and those sort of thoughts went through my mind a countless ammount of times. i dont think about it too often nowadays, since i kinda made up a opinion about it im able to be satisfied with, but the more reflective you are the more torturing such issues can be.

indeed there is not rly any deeper meaning in life and death, just like all other beeings we have some relative awareness and state of mind we life in, which doesnt contribute anything to any meaningful thing except ourselfs (if this could be seen as some "meaning"). all things come down to cold scientific nature when you break it up, even our strongest feelings are just a result of chemical reactions; love, family, friends.. just simple biology we cant escape of - and also shouldnt try to. you cant speak of any real "meaning", our personallity as well as our behaviour and maybe goals we set in life ect. dont have any higher value than what it means for ourselfs.

this strong relativizing of everything, in combination with all downsides human life provides you with, can drive you into depression and even suicidal tendencies quite easily. i couldnt tell myself thats not true because thats not discussable, it just is that way, so when i went through all this shit and witnessed all the huge abyss of humanity the final thing that came to my mind was to... uhm, just life.

with a little differentiation you can tell our lifes are just worthless, even further the humanity is more like a parasite on this planet and it's death should be desirable. but still most of us are still humans, ending this or living with such a negative point of view is just as pointless, so why shouldnt we try to fullfill our wishes and reach our goals to spend our meaningless existence in less pain? this doesnt mean you have to turn off you brain, if thats inside of you, you should still focus on beeing max. self-reflective and helpfull and empathic and all that shit... everything that makes you feel okay.
well, thats the only conclusion i could accept, a little rabbit-hearted but i can life with it, all other ways would lead to death.

ye uhm, what i tried to tell you with this: it's important to make up your mind about what you just wrote, but as complicated as it sounds: dont worry about it too much. at the end all that matters is how satisfied you are with yourself, which depends on you personal moral demand in first place.

this reminds me of a question i quite recently thought of, i hope you dont mind putting it in here:

do people have to emotionally suffer to become "good"?
can somebody spending his life mainly "carefree"develope a high sense of sensibillity/empathy?
aint somebody who never dealed with downsides of humanity a less reflective person..
or atleast: does it increase your grade of self reflection to focus on dealing with the negative aspects of life?

sorry for some typingfails ect. didnt re-read what i just wrote

Surely, I do understand what you mean, kaffee. I became an introverted person myself nowadays. Often I think about life, about our purpose on Earth. I’m often thinking “I’m too young to dig so much deeper in thought, and trying to understand life”. It’s about spending my time the best way possible, because eventually, it’ll be over. I’m trying to develop a satisfying opinion, and a way to look at things. Maybe somehow to soothe myself, because of the inevitable consequences ahead. But like CamelCloud said above, when you die your soul goes into a new body, starting a completely new life. This, ofcourse is just a theory, because nobody ever came back from the grave, as far as I can tell. But also something in this theory just seems right to me, I’m sure it’s the way it goes. The whole energy a human being produces during its life is just undescribeable.

Yes, completely agree with you on this one. Literally, there isn’t a “real meaning”, just what we think, what we love, what we do, and most, but not least with who we do everything in life is the real meaning. Maybe the purpose is just to have fun in your own, unique and completely different from another persons’s way. Truly, I’ve been thinking about my own goals and dreams, what do I really want from life? What would make me happy and satisfied with the way things are? Probably the fact that someday I’ll achieve my goals, bring my virtues to a whole new level, and reach the boundaries of my capability. Maybe then I can say for sure that I’ve fulfilled my designation on Earth. Or this is just another way to be in peace with myself, I do not know.

I was through the tough period, like I said in the original post, I experienced the downsides of the humankind’s character, nevertheless I managed to get out of it just by simply becoming aware of the fact that the shit, which was upon me was unnecessary. The things I used to believe are important, and which led me to this situation wasn’t this serious. I just changed my view of things and began asking myself – “why the hell would I feel as a shit, because of someone else’s stupidity?” I realized that I’m the one responsible for the way I feel, because I understand things differently. Like you said, kaffee, this state may drive you into a depression and even suicidal tendencies. I believe this is what I went through, but still it’s a fact, that your life depends on how you see things, whether you decide to be sad or happy. And having the power to choose happiness or sadness, this I think is the individuality of each person. I mean no matter how serious the situation is, you know that there is always an equilibrium, and this state is just temporarily. Things can’t be that bad, there is always a soothing solution, maybe a thought, maybe a deed, something just to help you through the emotional crisis. Yes, like you said, it’s just life, whether you’re happy of it depends entirely on you.

No, certainly the humankind is not a parasite on this planet, simply because we’re the most supreme of all creatures. No other living thing can match the human brain, and we also use only 3% of it, which is even more odd, because Imagine what would it be if we could use all 100% of it? Anyway I’m sticking to the topic, because this is a whole new subject, which is quite interesting too. So about our point, I don’t think we’re parasites, because we contribute to the planet, as well as killing it too. But this is also an inevitable process, and we should really try to do the best with our remaining time. As I said somewhere above, my point of view is not negative, I don’t think life is worthless, and yes, we should really try to achieve the best. Ofcourse, this topic is entirely based on theories, not actual facts, because you can’t present evidence of anything, which theoretically may exist in the afterlife.
Mostly above all I’m trying to be a good person as a whole. It’s an important thing for me and I always try to do the best and take the best decision. Maybe that’s why I almost never regret anything I did, no matter good or bad, just because I’ve decided it’s right for the moment.

Now about your questions:

Well, not necessarily. Suffering has nothing to do with being “good”. Suffering is just the part, in which you realize things aren’t the way you want them to be, and you don’t see a way of getting any better. No, people doesn’t need to suffer, furthermore they have to THINK about things, perceive it differently, and if and when they do, THEY WILL KNOW how to be good, and which is the best decision.

Depends what you understand by a “carefree” person. A carefree person may be a person, who loves life and just being himself during all his life, not thinking about all the responsibilities in life, but just trying to have fun as much as possibly. This person could also be a killer, for example. Like the only thing he cares about is how to rape and strungle the next victim. Therefore this person can’t be sensible or empathic, because he’s a cold blooded murderer. It’s all about the human-being personality.

I’m gonna give you a short answer here, simply because EVERY human being have had experienced the downsides of life.

As I said above, I’m trying to be a good person, this is a very important thing for me. Being good makes me in piece with myself. By thinking of negative aspects of life I try to look in myself also. I’m trying to distinguish good from bad in every situation, no matter how insignificant it is. So yes, it do increases my grade of self reflection, because after all, life is what is important. We can’t really change something in our lives when we are already dead, can’t we?

Personally I think, that life is a gift. I'm not quite sure from whom though, maybe God, aliens or whatever. It's a gift and you simply must be happy to own it. I strongly believe that it's an obligation for all of us to strive for perfection, because we have this chance given. Since you're already here, alive, why don't you just give your best, to squeeze the maximum of this exciting thing, called life.

I also believe that death is not the end. There's something afterwards. I can't tell exactly what, but there must be something. Death is just an inevitable part of life, something perfectly normal, which may be nothing bad at all. It even is some kind of a relieve, atleast I'm inclined to see it this way. It's a fact that no one would ever want to accidentally die in a car crash or something unexpectedly, but if that happens, I'd just consider it as a very bad luck, but just because of this natural balance, I'm sure that somehow, in some way you'll get a payback for this terrible and perhaps unfair incident. The only scary thing about death, is the pain. If I only could insure myself from pain, I wouldn't be afraid to die at all. But pain is temporary and sooner or later it'll end.

Even if there's nothing after death, when you're actually dead, your desire for living won't matter anymore, regardless of how or when you have died. You won't be able to regret about all the things you could experience, simply because you no longer exist.

Life is an unique excitement, so just focus on it and be happy you're part of this, because every breath is one step closer to death.

k a f f e e22/05/2011 02:10

good point shnz, thats exactly my view on after-life and death, just in the first part you were a little more positive than i am able to speak for it haha.

@aftermatch:

glad we agree on most views... well about humanity beeing a parasite or not:
because we're superior to all other beeings it just makes it alot worse we're the ones causing the most destruction and suffering for them. there is something called "law of the strongest" which is far from any moralistic view i can understand and it is what defines the human race for my side. along with the mentioned awareness the fact came in that we will definitly destroy this planet after a certain time of raping it, cant see any superiority there. also i dont see any real superiority in human societies compared to some jungle animals btw, its just as cruel and sick but covered under some pseudo-social coat... i guess ive seen too much to stay really objective on this (?), but i cant agree with you just a bit right there haha

thanks for sharing some thoughts about the questions i put down, got your point it is all up to the personallity, but isnt it exactly those stuff i mentioned "emotional suffering, focus on dealing with the downsides ect." that forms our personallity in the way i questioned? i know "carefree" and such stuff is very divisive, sorrow is never collective and its wrong to rate it for anybody besides yourself, but you cant denie some people just have a extremly lucky life compared to others and suffer less, i wanna know how it influences you're reflection. most likely someone having a save childhood, a caring family, a fullfilling realtionship, a successfull carreer ect. wont stay awake at night thinking about the rights & wrongs spending his life this way. i doubt he will question his existence and i doubt he can develope such a high grade of empathy as someone who massivly experienced emotional pain.
that doesnt work vice versa btw D: it would make most serial killers warm souls of love. and its not absolute, but up to some point i think there is a huge relation

itachi^22/05/2011 08:21

The meaning of a single human life is to evolve and contribute to the progress of the human race. Some people succeed and contribute a great developement, others don't.. when you die, depending on cultur your dead body is reworked into the earthy ecosystem or you burn, become ash and catch pokemon..

Dragon22/05/2011 11:51(edited 22/05/2011 11:59)

I feel really sorry for people who believe there's nothing more than this life and it's purpose is only to get a job, study, make money and have fun. I don't wanna be dragged into an argument with teenage theologists on this site so I'll just say yes I believe in God and that pretty much sums it up.

Kraeft23/05/2011 23:48

I'm pretty sure nothing will happen when I die, except that I cease to exist. The very notion of divinities and "transcendentality" is just absurd really, lol.

Cypek24/05/2011 18:29

I agree with Kraeft. I don't believe in God etc and something after death.

vasH,zC24/05/2011 18:52

Human thought's are just a wonderful thing.
I agree with shnz, life is a gift/present that we should enjoy to the maximum, do the most you can in the time your here, and the rest that comes is a bonus.
When i was a little kid about 6 years old, i was in bed reflecting about death, i though't about my grandma, what would i think and do if she would just die... I started to cry and then thought about myself, what would happen if i was dead... after a short period of time my mom entered in my room and asked what happened and I sayed what I was thinking. It was a really strange moment, the next day I went to school and I was still thinking about it and my mom said i shouldn't think about it, because all my other friends don't and that later in life i would understand it.
I guess she was right.
Really is amazing that we humans can rationalize this big.

Punk^24/05/2011 18:52

I have to jump on the atheist wagon as well... Science is my only religion.. to some extent.

Cypek24/05/2011 19:05

Forgot to add that I am 100% sure that some intelligent life in space what we maybe will discover will totally kill all religions on Earth :P

This thread is pretty deep. For me the meaning of life is to enjoy the time I get to spend here. Just live your life doing what you want and enjoy the ride. I don't want to think of afterlife or such. Far too depressing imo. :D

I always pictured you like this, depressed-thinking-about-afterlife-person. But after thinking some, considering your hiphopgangstayoyo style.. maybe not. :FFFFF
