lol thopa. you are a genius.

I was already wondering about it... Never would've got the idea that it is not 104 units cause of that angle ^^

That's the reason why the AMX plugins are wrong ...

Anyway... another question.... Is 234-235 really harder than 235-234? That would be a pretty important question for this challenge

If you jump from the 231 from the block where there is no Number on the wall u jump 232 units forward and 104 sideward, if you jump from the 231 block on the numbers side, you jump 231 units forward and 104 units sideward.

It doesnt matters if u jump from 231 to 232 or from 232 to 231 but which diagonal u use.

maybe somebody could prove this by measuring...

Something like this is the way I would measure the jumps. Rightstrafers will always have to jump the longer distance, and leftstrafers the shorter distance - IF a left- and a rightstrafer stands on the opposite blocks from eachother. I hope someone understands my point..

So if a leftstrafers makes a jump - he must count the lowest number of the two platforms he stands on.
And if a rightstrafer makes a jump - he must count the highest number of the two platforms he stands on.

All this is because of the way the map is made, and that the platforms on the side with the unit signs is NOT alligned (its always decreasing by 1 unit from every platform) and the other side is alligned and therefore constantly 252 long - from the wall to the edge of the jumps.

See this pic too:

LOL at this thread...........

Murvelman28/01/2007 21:28

What about just jumping instead of doing all this heavy thinking :)

thopa28/01/2007 22:20

To function properly your brain needs workout too ^^

...although this kind of thinking is just nonsense.

ScooteR28/01/2007 22:21

Its really strange so i think that a research should be done , cuz fps death sais that sambb did 251,*** , he only uses 5 strange strafes so 251,7** would be done hard that way , and when u measure it it sais that the jump is 256 or so :S

raYLa28/01/2007 23:08

They are noob-pics, but the 1st should clear your head about measuring (ESPECIALLY when using pythagoras). Even if we are talking about decimals the math will be wrong if you calculate with false digits!

thopa

That is not right. The picture by H.o.r.s.t. was messured correctly because there acutally is the 90° angle at the needed place... You just told us, the site where no unit-signs are, is align, so where is his mistake?

*** You can even messure this distance. And if you have that, you can simply messure the whole distance for rightprestrafer. That's how you called the one way ^^ pic

lol^^ math contest -thread^^

i think if the admins can measure it correctly so whats the problem.. i can understand the idea of each of u but dunno whos right at least

thopa29/01/2007 09:22

raYLa: You are right and Horst is right too. What i forgot too say was that when you measure you should measure from the side without the unit-signs - otherwise you have to count with the decimals (or the answer will be false). So if you measure like Horst did and always measure from the side with the unit-signs you will get the right answer.

But i wasnt wrong about what i said about using pythagoras from the side with the unit-signs... :)

Is there anyone exept me that think it would be appropriate to collect the correct info from all posts? This thread is confuzing and messed up :D

raYLa29/01/2007 14:25

haha yeah, pretty confusing everything and I even did it wrong yesterday evening :D Here is my last picture ( I hope ) and this should finally be correct now :) link

But somehow the messured lengths are weird... They seem to be pretty big ^^ My last solution though... :D

iiN[KzcN]29/01/2007 17:22

so many mathematician here! :p

gj.

thopa29/01/2007 17:57

You learn pythagoras in like 7th or 8th grade or so, just dont sleep during your lessons and you might learn something ^^

raYLa: That picture is art. Leonardo da raYLa ftw :D

omg :o raYLa and thopa are t3h1337brainz0rz on xj :P

Joko30/01/2007 20:22

ah thats not difficult, i am just bad at drawing pictures:-(

soul v2.0 mapper30/01/2007 20:40

lol, should get cam in on this thread.

He's like the genius of all maths geniuses :D

thopa30/01/2007 23:01

Its already solved, genius <3

Ladies and gentlemen, upload your demos.

first clean the thread and write the right and important information at the top :)

H.o.r.s.t.31/01/2007 13:33

thank you rayla for your pic, now I understand what thopa's point is :D

But, thopa, my way is although correct but easier :)
You wasted much to much virtual ink by painting those pictures xD

I love math, wouldnt have done that wrong :x

I would be very thankful for the one who has and can upload my 236x-longjump for me to dl.

I made this jump long(ish) time ago with my old pc and now the dl-links are broken too. I need this demo so I would appreciate it if someone could do this favor for me!
