my idea for mapchecking

Well, at first i know there are some changes going on about mapchecking system, which, as we all know, doesn't work very well now. I just wanted to share with you my idea what in my opinion could help this.

In my eyes, there is a nice way how to make mapchecking easier and more interesting for "lazy" players like me.
So let's start about it:
I would create new public server, where all the nominated maps will be in mappool and players will simply play there. For me, personally, it's much more fun to play map with other players on server. There will be normal kz plugin for public servers, including checkpoints and other important stuff. And when the player'll reach the end of the map and stop the timer, he will be asked if he like the map or if it should be accepted or something. To allow the player vote it would require him to finish the map, so you would be sure that there were not players that just joined, clicked yes and then left. If the map will reach enough positive votes, like 80% or something it would be accepted. The mappool would be changed every month for example, so if there were enough good maps, there'll be map releases every month.

It's just an idea i got today, but i think it might work...
I hope there is not a topic about this already, and if so, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

Let me know what do you think and share your opinions and ideas on it ;)

Remember, it's just my personal opinion :)

Best regards
Hitlooser

sounds good

I think it might work. Of course, there will be a lot of small defects or issues, but i guess that in time they will be fixed. Overall, nice idea, Hitlooser.

nice idea

the idea seems reasonable in theory but it might not work the same way if you put it into action. Also there is a small issue with the you have to complete the map to vote rule because if it's an extreme map probably not alot of people will be able to actually finish it and then it wont get any votes.

its an awesome idea mate ! i would love to play new maps and test them out ! but what about hard maps? i can't beat them so that means i can't vote for them! that's the huge disadvantage :/

maybe this could be resolved like this:
voting after you finish the map or after playing it for 30 minutes or something similar...

I thought about the same idea, but here is another possible solution: Whosoever would play on that special server for new maps would be certainly familiar with the server specification - like 90% of people would know, that that server serves as a kind of "mappoll". Thus who wouldn't be able to finish the map, could be simply refered to a thread of the map here on xj. There the person could write his own opinions about the map. (The best would be to allow only serious well-founded comments. Not just "I like it, I am FOR")
In summary, the system could be some sort of mix with the current method and the voting way suggested by Hitlooser.
YES votes from the server and possitive comments from here would be summed eventually. Moreover, the main admins for checking maps would agree/disagree if the map would be released/not. If not, there would need to be an explanation of their decision.

Similar idea has been dropped somewhere in internal admin forums. I like it much but as pointed the revision has to be made.

As the way out, scout will be given for a nub top. This way the percentage of finishers raises. If you still can not finish it, there is an alternative open forum voting system requires a rather in-depth vote explanation.

Good thought there, thanks for contributing.

The community shouldn't need to work. It's not its responsibility and nor should have any responsibilities, especially if they are crucial.

Who has been here for a very long knows that you can't trust the community in "doing the job". We tested this so many times and everytime the answer was positive: the community won't do the work the admins are supposed to.

Also, the maps are the most important factor of a community like this, because without maps you don't have anything to play on, and something like this should be decided by the most well prepared guys, not random selected guys from the community.

Thank you for such a nice suggestion!
There is in fact a perspective to make a server with all nominated/submitted maps in the cycle, which has been discussed among mapcheckers. Hopefully it will come along with the new changes in mapchecking system as well very soon. However its very hard to make players actually to take responsibility for their votes this way. There still will be troll votes or just votes by mistake/misunderstanding.

Maybe the mapchecking system could be divided and consider regular player's opinion as 50%, the other 50% will come from the mapchecking admins.

In addition to Cyclopp's post I suggest that server to be available only for admins and trusted members.

Moreover, who is going to take care of the server?

Yeah, how do you define who's trustful and who isn't?
