400FPS Shitty Quality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MCeUktxrgw
what the problem?
in HLAE, i recorded this movie in 400fps, in virtualdub - UNCOMPRESSED, in SonyVegas - Lagarith Codec (.avi), and then render in RipBot264 to .mp4, but quality still sucks. Whats the problem? Plz help.
it looks fine to me!
Because you are did slowmo. If you are wish do slowmo, improve your input fps in HLAE or use mirv_sample_sps ( I used 1200 when has low space hdd & mirv_movie_fps 300/240/210) & mirv_sample_enable options
For calculate your future mblur frame blending size ( how many frames will be in one frame of finally result ) just devide %hlae fps% by %project fps x slowmo percent%
And no need use NTSC fps in sony vegas, You can write your own fps for project. YouTube like 30fps, and every video w/ higher fps cut down to 30.
Also in vdub you can change fps as your mirv fps in "video -> frame rate" It make blending in Vegas automaticly, when you add video into project. Its save your time.
P.S. Never use RipBot, but i sure believe MeGUI better.
P.S.S. Here you can find some vid encoded by me w/ hq links, if that quality interesting, you can ask in that topic.
Good luck.
agree with Phinx.
you need more antialiasing
what happened to your english nannou? :D
nvm
too much effects ; layers, low bitrate, i guess u did smth wrong in ripbot(i have no exp with this software)
Thanks for suggestions.
@PhinX
for 400fps uncompressed movie, quality needs to be much, much cleanest.
@musaka
Antialising?
i have question, in HLAE i've recorded movie with 1280x800 resolution, and in Sony Vegas switched off Maintence Ratio, this action impair the quality or not?
@Nannou, beatiful video's quality. Share with codecs / settings?
Thanks!

high fps =/= good quality
i used to think ~120fps is enough, and yes it is, tho nowdays we have much more powerful pc's, so i guess 200-300~ is enough, high fps just makes more realistic or more eye catchy motion blur
antialiasing dno really how to describe it, tho by using it ur edges will be smoothered(?lol?)
describtion pic: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/Anti-aliasing.jpg
you can find this setting at your graphics card control panel
also if u would look around youtube you can notice that still most of kzmoviemakers arent using it, (im not up to date with newcomers of xj by this day, so it might be changed)
and please dont use shit ton of effects on your moviemaking matterial, it will only bring down quality of your footage
for instance look at old 8ball1 clips, quality is decent even after all these years, and the effects he used u can count them on your fingers

about RipBot, i've followed this tutorial (its in Latvians language) http://rush.lv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25395

@ Torex i didn't sleep 30-40 hrs in row, and i dropped smoking 5 days ago after 4 years, so little nervous, oh, not little.

input fps 1800 / out 30 @ uncompressed // I know its enough, on my channel that captured w/ 960.
MeGUI: YouTube HD
i was bored to doing screens w/ setting, so captured process Camtasia, i think it helped much more for newbies, cuz so many setting motivate drop that program, that's sad.
This one is pretty extreme setting. You can chose:
Encoding mode: 2 pass automated: w/ ~7k bit-rate, or Constant Quality: 19-21 ( lower number is better quality but big size and bit-rate )
M.E. Algorithm: "hexagon" or "multi hexagon" is fine too.
Subpixel Refinement: "9 - RD refinement of all pixel" is good.
Much more info you can find on megui topic at doom9.
For a good quality under all circumstances, config your GPU for the best quality in 3D-settings, capture everything with "mirv_movie_fps 600" and do not compress your video too much!
-> HLAE input capture in, use 600 fps
-> VirtualDub render to .avi, use 600 fps
-> Vegas rendering, use 30 fps .avi uncompressed
-> Encode in Legion, 30fps & ~ 7000/auto bitrate (ndR's tutorial, skip the Lagarith part)
That's what I've done in most of my clips. Sometimes instead of using Legion, I do the renders with different h.264/x264 encoders, for example ffdshow (old version, Vegas GUI) and original x264 via plain CMD.
It's always better with higher fps, I've used 900 and 1200 as well. But anyways everything above should be more than enough to encode a video in very high quality.

why would u use such a high frame rate? u could use sampling system instead if u want goodlooking motion blur, it saves your HDD for crying out loud
@then0r3k from the first look settings seems to be fine, maybe its just shitty software,
if u want to get good results dont rely on any guides or so,
test everything by yourself, in this way u will know exactly what does what and in this way u will not only find ur perfect quality settings but also u will be more advanced

I've used sampling system as well, but haven't felt that the results have been the same with it. It's not bad but it's different, a higher FPS input is clearer and works better with YouTube in my opinion.
Hey, why record in 200/300 FPS if you are not going to do slow motion in your movie?
I usually record at 30 FPS, and render to .wmv at 30 FPS. But if I want to do slow motion in some part, I just record it in 300 FPS.
Well you can do a test, input 30/output 30 & input 300/output 30.
The second option gives roughly 10 times better motion blur to your video. If a program could model 30 FPS motion blur perfectly, your idea would work.
Well, I gonna need do some test to be sure.
My method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ColPeBQCAdU
My result: http://youtu.be/8wuKJ9Jcdj4?hd=1
There are dozens of other ways but this is the best one I found after several years of tests.
ndR, nice tut and nice quality, dude!
But do this test: On you video, click pause many times (or just one), you will see a poor blur, or weird motion ( I don't know how to call it). On my videos, there is no that thing, how could I combine this? Your quality is just amazing, but I really don't like that thing about pausing and see that.
Here an image about what I'm talking: http://i45.tinypic.com/123l4qq.png
Youtube will always resample videos no matter what you do, my motion blur looks perfect the original file being viewed :-)
It might also be there because I don't disable resampling in any of my Vegas projects, I keep the smart resampling enabled.
Anyway, just keep in mind that most viewers will watch your video in one take, not by pausing it every second :-)
