Whats important to get a very good jumplenght?

If you look at biao's 255units jump you see that his airspeed is not the best and his prestrafe is even very slow in comparison to the other jumpers. Although he did "only" 5 strafes he jumped further then anyone else.

(I know that he used a cheat but thats not the point because he didn't change any gamesettings)

So if it's not the prestrafe/airspeed or the number of strafes, what's then the fact which decides whether your jump is good or not?

draken- ... good question :P

Don't have time atm 2 try 2 explain what i think about it. I'll do that ASAP, if no1 beats me 2 it ofc :D

Timing is everything :! , although that's not all..
Have 2 go now but i'll try 2 explain little more later.

This will be interesting

riXplreR12/02/2007 10:18

yeah i have that same question too...

ANtye12/02/2007 12:05

Timing thats all :/ If u press buttons milisec later + mouse movement (how fast and strafe size) u will not make it ^^

There's one thing that the legend seaK taught me about longjumping, which really helps :)

And that is to make a good first strafe :O

wima12/02/2007 14:21

dito soul.

neppo12/02/2007 15:08

ehm sorry for the maybe dumb question but how can i find out the prestrafe speed and airspeed when i have a demo ??? i got plugin but i can see it just in game

draken-12/02/2007 15:35

I think you need the admin version of fps-death. you have to ask faker (:

crack12/02/2007 17:32

draken- : OF COURSE, the cheat he used helped him to get advantage, his 5 strafes and his airspeed wasn't that good, but with that slomo program he used, his windows speed ( and also ingame speed) was reduced by 50%+ .So it's very much easier to get a good timing for the "so important" first-strafe and for all the rest of your strafes, furthermore it's much easier to jump off the block at the "latest" point of it.

draken-12/02/2007 17:45

@crack, I know that his cheat gave him a big advantage. This is the reason why it's forbidden :)

But I'm not talking about his cheat, I'm talking about the longjump stats. NiconeN for example had a better prestrafe and a better airspeed but biao's jump was better although his jumpstats were not as good as NiconeN's.

crack12/02/2007 19:57

yeah yeah I know.. I already understood your problem, but it's still a matter of the cheat he used.... the cheat just got him the advantage to have a PERFECT TIMING of his strafes, while NiconeN still had 0.1-0.3 seconds unregularity in his strafes.. well, which solution do we get outta there? : LJstats are not the decisive factor of a good longjump.

Volsfootball12/02/2007 20:49

The only thing i know about lj'ing is you better hope that your strafes are on target, because if they aren't you will struggle to only get 240-245. . .But yes, as soul said, the first strafe of the jump is key, without a good first strafe your lj is blown. But well lets think about this. . .

The max speed of a usp/knife is 250 units/s. But you can bump that up to around 275 with a legit prestrafe. After that prestrafe you must maintain your speed with that first strafe to make your jump overall the best you can possibly make it. But, if that strafe is off, your jump is off which was stated earlier. Listed in all the other threads, you can pull out like 3-4 strafes and a good prestrafe to land a 248 or so, but those strafes have to be on target.

Now. . .when you try to boost your strafes to around 6 - 7, then you might slow down. Because the more strafes you have, the degree of difficulty exponentially grows. Meaning that if you do not time those extra strafes perfectly you slow down dramatically, but if you do time them right, you put an extra 3~4 units to your jump. But. . .all in all, what it comes down to is your prestrafe and your first strafe. Thats all i have to say about lj'ing. :S

riXplreR23/02/2007 17:28

airspeed? is it an average of the variety of speeds in air due to the multistrafes...? or is it just the speed of ur last strafe landing? cause if its the speed of the last strafe...? maybe theres the answer.

cause if u have a good prestrafe and u make 6 strafes and the first 5 strafes have perfect timing but the last one doesnt... if the airspeed is measure it by how much is it the speed when u land... AND ur last strafe wasnt as perfect as the 5 before, U WILL certainly have a slowdown. BUT DUE to is ur last strafe and ppl make it when they are so close to the block u will not be that affected by slowdown
lets say u will make 253 units...
u jump and u have prestrafe speed: 275 units/s and u make 6 strafes. the first five with the best timing ever but u messed up like shit with the last strafe maybe with the first five u crossed like 252 units and u do the last strafe that put you to the 253 but that last strafe wasnt with perfect timing then u will have an airspeed measured by that last strafe that wasnt perfect but at least helped u to get one more unit. and ur jumps stats will be hipoteticly like this
jump length : 253,32 (253)
pr3strafe speed : 275 units/s
airspeed : fucking 324 units/s

sorry for the uber long comment is just that im not sure of how to explain it :P
if u didnt understand i DONT CARE :P
PS: tired. going to bed... ;)

draken-23/02/2007 18:52

In the longjump-thread it says "Topspeed (Airspeed) (highest value after you have accelerated in the air)" so it's not implicitly the speed of the last starfe.

I think it would be better to give the average airspeed (if it's possible) because that would give much more information about the jump.

To give an example :
biao highest airspeed value was ~337units/s. Maybe his average airspeed is something like 335units/s.
NiconeN's highest airspeed value was ~338units/s but his average airspeed could only be ~330 and that's the reason why his jump was not as good as biao's.

lol change this threads name to "long highly intelectual posts thread"
biao is a noob , if some good longjumper had that slowmotion hax (even me , but im not that good) i could do like 10-15 strafes and jump much further

:S? so what? we all know that biao is ubernoob. but do ya think that he was going to release a demo with 15 strafes? you have to be noob to expect that for sure...
