KZmod is not dead. Read why in here.
I had to concentrate on learning my work. Get my life in order. I was practically on the street for the game. I spent years living off the government to develop it. I had no more money...and the domain auto-extend function tried to cash in on my yearly payment and there was no money for it...so the domain got bought out.
I would like to take this opportunity to explain how XJ survives and does not require DEVELOPERS to develop the game. The same would apply to KZmod wether we continue developing or not.
XJ survives on having a Admin staff taking care of demos, movies, records, and events. The admins shift a lot but they are created from the players themselves. The players WANT to support it. The dont wish for it.....they DO it because its necessary to keep it alive.
I screamed for years for people to assist us with a admin staff.
I had one angry demo admin.
enough of that.
KZmod for me.....is my life, people. It is my Baby. I care for it. I want it to work. But if we spend all this energy creating and making it better and doing everything we can to make all of you happy and all you do is notice a little difference and just LEAVE....and dont support us.......we fuckin lose interest. It is like a rubberband. WHY......should we continue.....to get slapped in the face again?
We MIGHT have a solution for the demo lag.
We thought of a map filter selection thingy to make it easier for people to find the kind of map they want.
We want to restructure Tag Arena.
The list literally goes on.......BUT
Why should we if all you do is leave us? not all of you....but most of you.
1.0
2.0

3.1
4.0
4.1
4.2
1.0
1.2
Every fuckin time you had a main reason to leave it collectively.
I never gave up.
1.2 nearly perfected 1.6 movement dowen to 0.00001 on air acceleration and 2 people noticed it and told everyone else so no one tries it now. Those that did give it a chance liked it but still left it cuz everyone else did.
I STILL.......like a fuckin STONE WALL......am not going to give up.
But what I do request......is some back up.... cuz im taking fire and need assistance.
First of all welcome back bro ,
i agree absolutely with the fact to keep XJ more active ,
and i hope we will all give you a hand with KZMod because
you did a great job and others did too , hopefully things will go good from now on like it used to be at he first.
Cheers
cs1.6 will die soon
kz based on 1.6 will die soon, too
source engine is popular nowadays
kz based on source (kzmod) is the only thing we can choose
I'll back you up Tim
Hello there Soulfather! I'm definitely one of those guys that downloaded it upon release, played 3-4 days and then bailed.
Am I to blame for this? Because thats how you make it sound. Is it my obligation to like the game you've created?
You and your co-workers have definitely created something spectacular, but does that mean you have the right to become upset when people don't drop the already (in my eyes) perfected 1.6?
I believe you've got a great possibility to make KZ-MOD become active, but in order to make something successful you must try and see the entire picture, you can't just release a game and then hope for everyone to take part and become interested on their own, you have to set it up so that people become eager, they become more hungry for it and feel that the staff behind KZ-MOD is not only competent and reliable but also incredibly active to support the cause.
I wish you the best! And I will definitely show up for some more tag-arena action since I actually really enjoyed that!
Soulfather, hello. I know that I'm probably one of the last people you want to see, which is even more fkedup when i'm actualy talking about kzmod. I'm so sorry for bailing on you as an admin, but my life became overfloded by problems which I still didn't manage to fix now ... that includes jail too btw but anyway
Once I came back to gaming, I checked kzmod but seemed like people didn't play it as much as they did at the release. I just love that game, it's great and valve should promote it nontheless ... but i still find cs 1.6 more perfect. The most annoying thing about kzmod was the movement of the usp/knife model while jumping. I know you could stop that with a command but i would have appreciated a less brutal movement on the models. Anyway thats another story ...
As you've seen back then, I really loved the game, played the game and done movies for it. For me as a moviemaker it was hard ... like IceVip stated, the campaths were bugged as hell and you couldn't fix that. I wanted to promote kzmod as much as possible but once I went inactive, I never came back. One thing in kzmod that made me not come back was the feeling of having and meeting frieds on the servers. I barely played with 3-4 friends ... I still can remember the day after the release when I joined a server and there were oldschool kz players (2006-2008) jumping around. I even started writing on walls with the paint tool launcher blabla and everyone started doing that, which was super fun. It was probably the most enjoyable and laugh-able moment in online gaming for me !!
I want to tell you "DON'T GIVE UP, IT'S YOUR BABY", but as stated, you need support from the players. I can't do much more than telling you to "keep going" ... that's a very sad fact for me too but I just want to do movies for kzmod, and that is almost undoable.
Sorry for my behaviour, I feel like shit telling you this only now ... you relied on me and i dissapointed. My apoligy !
I guess people could play it, if web wasn't so inactive, when kayne stoped to do releases, kz mod died, and people like kropeq who did comeback with kzmod went back to 1.6 again. As for me KZmod is good, but i hate some fps problems there, but now i lil updated my pc, tbh didnt tried after that, tag arena is strange :( I prefer 1.6 HidenSeek more
yes, when releases were stopped all died
Hey Tim, i'm very glad to see you back. Even happier to see that you got your life in order (if you actually managed to do so).
And i know what you mean by (1.2 nearly perfected 1.6 movement down to 0.00001 on air acceleration and 2 people noticed it and told everyone else so no one tries it now).
Cuz i for one enjoyed KZMOD alot.
I'm offering my help too (may not be much but still) if you need it.
Still, glad to see you're still out there and going "stronk"!
1. Improve the animations (epecially the running ones)... They look shit to tell you the truth. No one wants to make movies of that game because of the way the players move and jump. I actually like the animations from cs 1.6 and I think I speak for everyone here, so why not try and copy those?
2. Get rid of the drawing gun, it makes people lag. I know there is a command to turn them off, but i still think it makes the game look unprofessional.
3. I would probably play if i weren't banned on your website.
Hey there! Got to say, I tottaly love KZMOD.. But how can I not leave it if there is no servers? Also some thing that makes me not play that as much as I did with 1.6 is maps.. it needs more maps badly:) Btw happy to see you writing about this.. Hope to see some servers in it that I could play. I wish you all the best luck
hey anyone remember the binds too make the paint tool for smaller and bigger lines? xD
I love kzmod I use it as a paint workshop it's fun as hell yoo
wtf happened to kzmod.com domain..? Do you own it? Some weird stuff there..
Now, I quickly want to say, that I haven't visited this site more than a couple of times for the past two years, so I don't know what really made people come back to this site, rather than jumping on the kzmod wagon.
However, there are some things I found alarming in your post, and I felt like I needed to reply.
You CANNOT put this on the players. That's just unreasonable. If people don't like your game, they have every right not to play it. If it was a quality product, well, then people would support it.
In your case, the problem is, that the product simply isn't better than what it tried to "beat".
You needed to create a game that was so good, it would reignite the feeling we all had when we started playing KZ. And you didn't. I'm sorry, because I know how much work you put into it, but you didn't. It wasn't because of lack of releases, it wasn't laggy campaths, or any other single standout components like that, it was the game as a whole.
And you really tried, you had the right idea on how to get people's interest (new gamemodes etc.).
They just weren't as fun as they needed to be, sadly. And most of them were very flawed. I'll go over the worst two.
Tag Arena:
The main problem with tag arena is that you tried to make a game something it's not. A multiplayer game. And on top of that, it just wasn't fun, I dont think anybody really figured out what it was about. It would probably be fun 10vs10, but not enough people even wanted to try it.
Because in the end, it was just a remake of the Hide N' Seek mod that we've all tried in cs 1.6, and that again leaves you with something old that you tried to pass on as something new and exciting.
Ropeslinging:
I can't even remember the name of it, but I guess you know what I mean. Again, it was just boring. I'll admit that here you created something new, but nobody liked it. This isn't entirely your fault, because this is also bad alphatesting response.
On top of that, you lied to everybody when you said the movement was 99.9% like cs 1.6. Because let's just be honest, it wasn't, and it shouldn't have been. Why? Because basically what that signals is, that his is KZ with new skins. That's it, and that was what people ended up expecting. The only popular maps on the few servers that actually ran, were reskinned versions of old maps like bkz_goldbhop.
Again, there was no wow-factor, and since you already knew the controls, there was pretty much no learning curve(unless you were a guy who never played KZ before, but then this game isn't fun to play anyway, because everyone else will be a 100 times as good as you) so there was nothing to keep people coming back.
Add to that, that moviemaking was incredibly bad because of laggy movements(guess what, people enjoy the aesthetic part of KZ) and whatnot, and a small playerbase to begin with, and what do you end up with?
Nobody knew about this game apart from via this website or steam.
BUT, the biggest problem this game had is that nobody really asked for it.
Anyway, I'll wrap this up.
I'm so sorry that your life-project didn't work out like you imagined, but that's life.
To answer your question, what should you do if everybody leaves you?
Let it die. And accept that you failed.
Dont try to blame this on everyone else just because you're upset. Because this is your own fault.
That's it, sorry for spelling mistakes etc.
Hey wtf noel? "nobody liked it" Its only your opinion, the game is cool. Just needs more maps.
well.......nice to see all the negativity there Noel. Very nice of you and thanks for your constructive ideas.
-I am not a liar
-The post was created to ask for a bit of support because my 2 man team backed by a few mappers is not able to handle what most of you expect in an admin team like XJ with 20 guys.
-someoine asked why the domain is down and i explained it in my first paragraph.
I was not pointing fingers at any individuals really.
I was explaining my take on the situation from my own poiont of view.
This was not me placing blame on anyone....but rather an explanation of the situation....again....from my own eyes :)
Relax!
@NOEL
(I'm the guy who programmed the majority of the mod)
I don't blame someone for taking exception to something, everyone's opinion is completely valid, but you are being very harsh on KZMod here and I feel this is very unfair.
I admit KZMod isn't perfect, and the movement isn't exactly the same as 1.6. I'm not skilled enough to personally detect a difference, and many of the people who tested the mod who are highly skilled told us that the movement was well done. There may be minor differences that the most elite can detect - this can still be fixed and improved on. I remember comments from some saying that the difference was minor enough to not erode their skills in 1.6, which is what we were aiming for.
Some people don't like the bungee or the other new gameplay elements that were added. That's fair enough, I don't expect everyone to like everything that was added, that's why none of it is mandatory (apart from mix maps, which were meant to be extra challenging. There are still pure kreedz maps). You are arguing about the faults of Tag Arena (I agree that Tag Arena is not fantastic) and bungee, but you are not forced to do any of this in KZMod. I know of some people from the past who really liked the bungee, and became very skilled with it - the same pursuit of skill is what led this community to become so good at kreedz in the first place.
The reason KZMod tries to be like 1.6 so much is not because it's trying to be a boring clone, it's because we are trying to create a game that still inspires our nostalgia and does not deviate from our established skills. Trying to make a jumping game that is completely different to 1.6 would simply cause us to have to ignore years of building these skills which is completely unnecessary. Part of what makes us kreedzers is our dedication and desire to be the best and to refine our skills to perfection, I admire this and at the same time want to give everyone here a game that has had just as much effort put into it. I admit my efforts haven't been flawless, I pride myself on how bugfree the game is, but if there are criticisms and problems, I want to hear them and improve the game based on it.
Something Cobrex was talking about earlier was how annoyingly fast the movement on the weapon models ingame was. This is the type of thing that would have been gladly fixed if it had been asked for. I remember spending at least an hour before the 1.2 release of the game perfecting the FOVs on the weapon models for Acrasia - the whole purpose of this game is for it to be shaped and designed for the community who plays it. We aren't trying to get this community for KZMod, we are trying to make KZMod for this community.
I understand that you (NOEL) were offended so I won't make an argument out of these criticisms. Remade maps and the ability to use CS 1.6 models and sounds (which I put a lot of effort into programming) were added to try and create a sense of nostalgia coupled with the excitement of something that is being improved on. What I've been trying to say is that however flawed KZMod is, we have been trying for a long time to design this game in a way that would provide the entertainment of old, coupled with the possibility of the new. We want to keep updating this game, and adding new features (tangible features that improve KZ, like better scoreboards, better timers, records, competition modes, better coop etc), as well as new disciplines that you might choose to add to your skillset (like the bungee, powerjump and so on). We want to hear what this community wants in a game, and to do it. To give the excitement of a game that is alive and growing.
I don't personally believe that KZMod has failed as a game, but irrespective of that, the arguing and fighting is damaging to this community. Perhaps the demise of kzmod.com (which was taken over by domain grabbers) will give us the chance to repair the distance that seems to have grown between us. I'm sorry if we have come across as cocky or overconfident, our reasons for making this game have always been positive ones.
KZmod.
We can develop it.
We have complete control over the code.
We can program anti cheats against newly found cheat holes.
We can improve on it after it's finally perfect.
We can add or take away features.
We can give mappers more entities to play with.
We can basically do ANYTHING with the game that is collectively desired.
CS will always stay the same.
This is why we created KZmod. To give a future platform to a community who may one day want more game in the game.
To give them the ability to learn more skills rather than just jumping and surfing to keep things interesting when the one thing might get a bit boring. To give them the ability to combine all their newly learned movement skills to reach ultimate talent.
kzmod is perfect except i cant bhop normaly:D even with high stable fps, random slow downs like 10 good bhops max, but others doing it like in 1.6..:>>> EDIT just run a game now since last time 2013-09 and feels my problem gone:}
To me KZmod was and still is awesome. It's just a shame that I don't have more time to play it or support it the way i would like to. To me the game is a better version of 1.6 KZ, with some extra features.
The movement might not have been 100% like 1.6 but it was so close that you couldn't really feel the difference. Atleast I couldn't.
Would love to see the activity back, with plenty of new maps and some great records. I would atleast check the maps and records.
Like someone else said...I think that if XJ could add a official kzmod records/maps section with the help of the still active KZmod developers, the activity would surely increase again. Maybe even more so than before (hopefully). Since part of the problem was that not enough people knew about it, even if there was a few newsposts about KZmod here on XJ to.
<3 KZMOD and good to see you back soulfather!
