Homepage: sledge-editor.com
It is new alternative for valve hammer editor and it has alot more features than hammer 3.5

Havent tryed it out by myself yet but it seems theres alot of hammer 4.0 features aswell..
can tell more about it after i can try it out soon

also its alpha stage so there can be annoying bugs but it seems to be worth sharing it here :)

uu, seems awesome. will try it soon

its really buggy, ive spoken with the author and its more or less his sandbox playing ground for programming I think. It's really nice but if its not updated since the last time i've used it, it might be really unstable and buggy.

There are a lot of things planned but for now it's really in the early stage. Problems in the 3D view and crashing are not uncommon and for the moment the basic functionality is still buggy.

It's hosted on github so various people are adding so when the basic tools are polished it will surely be a better tool than hammer. For source support it will need a while though

i tihnk its specially for other games half liife , team fortess or i dont even know those other games .
for cs 1.6 im sure it will be somewhere buggy

Twize[k]04/04/2014 00:26

karli only one thing is different about mapping tf classic, half-life and other goldsource games and thats fgd file you need to use..

and buggy is it because its alpha and its new editor..
also forum where you can post bugs and recomendations:
http://twhl.info/forums.php?thread=18410&page=1

can try it out on weekends and share my experience with it after that :)
Even if its really broken its worth to try it and give feedback in this thread i posted there..

cs 1.6 is one of those games. 1.6 is a halflife mod.

The only thing that would make me move from Hammer is if they added some kind of light-rendering in the editor and/or implemented displacements.
I could do without all those arc/torus/sphere thingies as you shouldn't use them much in goldsrc anyway.

okay dont eat me guys you knew what i meant lol.

spr1n mapper04/04/2014 19:52

doesnt look impressive. Some people may find it more comfortable maybe, but its just all-in-one oriented software without real new features. And WINE/Mono plans are silly, I hope they won't do it

dEMolite mapper04/04/2014 22:12

they need to work alot on the ui.
the render option where you can choose is okay aswell but yea they have to work alot on it.

i am with Pieshels, if they would add light rendering for goldsrc, i would choose Sledge over Hammer.

daza mapper05/04/2014 04:35

what is light rendering?

dEMolite mapper05/04/2014 11:33

its just a prelight rendering how it does look in game.
but since the renderer is not the game engine it just how it might look alike.
not something like in CrySandbox or Unity3d or UnrealED which is all dynamic because the renderer is the same as the engine.

bspviewer renders lightning somewhat; would it be like that?

byob mapper05/04/2014 14:58(edited 05/04/2014 14:59)

bspviewer renders the already calculated lightmap (i.e the 15 minutes you were staring at your hlrad doing work). if you had to preview the exact lighting in-editor you would have to run the radiosity algorithm for every single change you make to a light, which is practically impossible.

in-editor preview would have to be something that can be calculated real-time and mimic the result of the rad program to some degree.

dEMolite mapper05/04/2014 18:23

they have just to create their own renderer on the radiosity basis with dynamic lights.

its easier said but harder to create

SwiftSpear06/04/2014 02:46

They wouldn't be able to get exactly the same appearance with dynamic lights as would end up in the final product, but I agree, it would make prototyping much faster to have a better approximate.

daza mapper07/04/2014 00:45

Yes. Yes quite. I know some of these words.

dEMolite mapper07/04/2014 18:20

Also some alternate:
Getic http://www.getic.net/
Radiant http://icculus.org/gtkradiant/
QuArk http://quark.sourceforge.net/
Qoole http://www.volved.com/qsr/
Jackhammer http://jackhammer.hlfx.ru/en/
TrenchBroom http://kristianduske.com/trenchbroom/

Jackhammer is just another hacked version of Hammer but look will wait for some newer versions with more features.
TrenchBroom looks promising since its just only 3d editing and this could be a big advantage for us. since we are working on a 3d dimension and dont need to plan and create it in 2d.
