Story-based games
you should try Mass Effect 1,2 and 3. It has one of the best stories in single player. It`s an rpg/fps style game where the final outcome of the game depends on choices you made trough the series.
After you finish mass effect 1 you can load your save file into mass effect 2 to continue the story and so on. I haven't seen something like that in other games.

also Dragon age, sort of a fantasy rpg with tactical combat, same developers as mass effect

Thats exactly what The Walking Dead/The Wolf Among Us is all about too ... I personally don't love RPG/FPS style unless it has something way different regarding gameplay.

also a must have to play are the Tim Schafer & Ron Gilbert Adventures with are all well written
iron storm. loved to play it. havent played a lot from the new ones but singularity is nice

also Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning one of the most beautiful ive ever seen
