Definitely number 2, as it visually fills those empty spots we see on the first one and makes it look more busy with the added detail.

what you made is a good effect, but how you made it is wrong. Don't use such pointy curves (i'd recommend NEVER; only use such pointy curves if the design asks for it), as it doesn't provide realism. Make the curves of the hole in the ground smoother and diverse in lentgh and angles....here's an example http://postimg.org/image/3kfmhblp7/. Also add some bits of the broken floor next to the hole or somewhere near.
