Let the community pick the ROTW
19/04/2017 02:45(edited 19/04/2017 02:46)hi guys ive seen many ppl complained about patchouli's rotw being xtremeblock.. in fact almost always there are 2 or 3 guys saying the rotw pick isnt good (sometimes my case and sometimes not!)
so my idea is including a poll inside the 1.6 release in which users can vote which map theyd like for rotw

Unless everyone picks the same run, there still will be people complaining about the chosen run. So that doesn't really change anything.
And didn't they try that in the past anyway? If i recall correctly that didnt really work out well for some reasons.
I mean I'm not against the idea, but there will still be favoritism, whether for the map picked or the jumper himself.
IMO the rotw complaining problem is a non-problem.
May I also add that the last 7-ish rotw's that have actually been released every week have been great so far, so kudos for that!
As a result it will lead to two problems:
1. People won't vote for N person because they think he's cheating.
2. People will blindly vote for N person because he's their friend and cool guy in general, no matter how shitty his run is.
No doubts there are people who can make proper decision regarding picking ROTW but at the same time there are retards like McL who aren't mature enough to make unbiased choice.

right now, Ovidiu is choosing demos that will drag attention of potential viewers and hes trying not to offend anyone by choosing better demos that are not actually bhop or well-known maps.
do you know how it will look when you will let that 98% of the community people that are not recording demos choose the ROTW map? would be hilarious, imagine literally anyone beating any old bhop map by 1ms and practically winning in polls. check out the last ROTWs in comparision to releases, it makes me (personally) sad.

I didn't say anything bad about rotw's. It was only once about the edition, cause it was kind of strange for me, imho (kzru_sunshine). And I'll tell you why Ovidu chose "1.6 ROTW #181 - R300K on bkz_dqvolski_most" instead of kz_cellblock - "it's overused map, let unknown maps to be known (c) Cyclop". Same with xtremeblock :)
I do understand toff's point (or anger, maybe) in the comment section of the rotw newspost, but to be honest when one of the most famous maps like xtrmblock gets beaten by 1.xx+ secs, you hardly can do anything about not making it the rotw. And on top of that patchouli got this crazy style.
As time would go by, demos would keep getting pushed to the limits, and this fight about who chooses the rotw gonna get murkier, as every demo would get cut throat. Opening it to members would only see a hundred new users getting registered on the day of the news release, ppl would make their friends getting registered to the site, get their votes on, it would bring along tons of new troubles.... do u srsly need that kinda headache?
Let's keep the job to the admin voting forums only.

Read what I said clearly :) Of course this map is deserved a ROTW, but I just simply want justice.

Dude i understand your point, and everyone knows in here your'e crazy skilled and all... but just think it this way. How many rotw's you've had it yet? A lots, I guess?
Now u see that patchouli's demo, and tell me it's not something special. You see his dyd onlime demos from cosy (dont know if uve seen them) . I just think he deserves at least one rotw too, given that skill set.

You guys are so smart by seeing how mamy wr's I have, but it doesn't make any sense, guess why? Cause I have only 2 rotw's in 2016 and 2 in 2017 (1 of them was chosen cause no one recorded a single map that time :) ) So don't say what you don't know

In my opinion there's a reason why admins decide what run will it be. Its not only 'best run', it also represents this community and possibly attracts new people here. It can be bad luck that you didnt get ROTW, you can think of conspiracy theories, or it can just be not the best run or map. Either way it will be your opinions against theirs.

Exactly, that's what im talking about. I'm not asking for rotw's. But when the best map and best time is got beaten, it's surely gonna be the ROTW, but sorry not for me, cause he just hates me. 100% if only there was someone who could take kz_cellblock instead of me that would be a rotw.

20/04/2017 01:38(edited 20/04/2017 01:41)Well maybe it's not really the best way of attempt in getting new users to XJ by favoring runs on little known maps over objectively badass runs on whatever other maps, which is btw in this case cellblock, one of the most prestigious and recognizable maps within the community. How about a recognition to the players who do best, who keep the community attracted, give them that little award they deserve so they have that little incentive to continue and please us with their best in 2017. Instead of trying to extend playerbase by this weird ways WTF, there are (or were unless it's too late) more proper ways for this to do. Stop demotivating players, show respect.
20/04/2017 01:54Run of the week is currently chosen by someone nowhere close to top5 or even top10. Please realize, that there more people like this, than the number of players in top10. It is really a subjective thing and we will always disagree in the choice. I believe we would disagree on rotw even if we, me and toff, would actually decide in this matter.
