It's like training wheels when learning a bike. It's a tool to help you get the feel for what's really happening. Simple as that.

theres your slow mo if you want it that bad.

^^^^^Fail. I already have slowmo. Please RTFT.

Aren't you guys sick of fruitlessly trying to convince me not to 'cheat'? My slowmo 'cheat' has already helped me tons. I can now do 4 strafes quite naturally. Although they aren't synced well, it will come with time.

So to sum it up, those of you that said that cheating won't help, you were wrong. And do those of you saying that it's "cheating", well, as I've explained before, it's not even cheating.

Heh, I thought this thread had finally died...

Well, I've always thought that making the game function differently from the normal behaviour is cheating, but not then I suppose. Yay, nice, you can do 4 strafes. Even I can do 8 strafes, but my sync is just disastrous, what about you?

Sorry if I had a little negative accent in that. But for me it's just a bit annoying that you try to convince here that slowmo is a better option than training normally. Perhaps for the beginning it might be easier, but you know, you never get good if you never let loose of your training wheels. Maybe it wasn't your intention anyway to use them in the end, but well, I'm too lazy to press backspace. Well, my own experiences... I tried slowmo when the first guys using it busted for sending demos with it. I could do 254 with a little practice. Nice, but I couldn't jump normally for a little while, so I don't think it helped me any, just made me worse, although just temporarily.

I don't feel like continuing this topic anymore anyway, and I goddamn hope you aren't a troll, because if you are, you got me bad :P Otherwise, good luck in future.

Now it's my turn to apologize because I never meant to try and argue the point that it's better. Each person has their own way of learning and there is no single best way. Sorry for making it seem like I was trying to convince anyone that it's better. I was just trying to say that there is nothing wrong with using this method to learn if it's on my own private server and if it personally helps me. That's all.

The game still functions exactly the same, just slower. I haven't targeted anything about the game. It just slows my computer, that's all it does. It slows all of my computer, so it's not Counter-Strike oriented. If you want to argue the point that "Well, that's not how the game was intended", the same argument can be applied towards longjumping, because technically longjumping was never intended by the programmers.

Even so, this thread only started as a simple question to ask if there was a standardized slow-motion tool to assist with learning to longjump and the answer of course turned up no. I have my answer, and there really is no reason to continue this thread. No, I'm not a troll. I just started this thread to ask a question and it blew up. No offense to any of you that at least understood my original question and answered it. For that, I thank you for your response and for reading what the real question actually was.

If you're referring to it turning into a gay thread, I couldn't agree with you more. This thread does suck ass now.

But please either contribute something gay to the gay thread that's on topic, or don't post.

what about instead of using slowmo to train you should use a speedhack and play kz with 4x speed. play with it 2 weeks and then you go back to normal speed. itll feel like slowmo for you^^

I'm not sure if you actually meant that post, but it's actually not a bad idea. If you get good at something that's harder, it will make normal feel easier. I'll have to ponder this, but for the moment it seems at least plausible.

Not to be 'gay' but do you really think a game is functioning normally if it's running slower? I could understand it if you lower your fps. And when you say Counter-Strike oriented, it's pretty childish in my opinion. Who cares what parts it slows down in your computer as long as it slows down CS? Longjumps not intended? Right, but you can do them with all default settings and programs and everything. No 3rd party programs needed. This got pretty offtopic and maybe a little negative and distracting. Nothing against you though, you got brains unlike some people in these forums :)

In my opinion it would have the same effect as using slowmo, just raping your sync. And I don't think he really meant that. In theory it sounds pretty reasonable to be honest, but if you can manage to do only 3-4 strafes with normal speed, how could you possibly make more strafes/improve your strafes if the game is running faster?

I really hope I don't need to argue anymore :P

Well, I see where you're coming from completely, and I believe that our difference in opinions are purely that. I am a student in my final year, majoring in computer programming, so that may be why I have the opinion that I do. When I write a program, my goal is to make that program do something. If it does that something, then it works. If I write a program that prints "Hello World!" and it does that, then I declare my program works. I realize that if a computer running really slow were to run it, it may take 10 seconds for it to finish execution and on fast computers, it will be near instant. Even though it takes longer to execute on a slower CPU, it's still executing all the same code and nothing of mine has been modified, so I don't say that my program is hacked or cheated. It still has the same behavior and outcome, just a time delay. If I had written a game and someone did this, it's not hacking because my code is intact, as are the default RAM values. If you were to call it cheating, that is a matter of opinion and morals. It's not technically cheating by the program's standards, but you could personally feel guilty or get mad at others for slowing it down.

What I'm trying to get at is CPU speed is an outside factor when compared to the internal coding of the program. I'm sure there are some cases where a program is written for a CPU of at least X speed, but I'm not aware of how to implement a program to fail if the CPU speed requirement is not met. And if CPU speed did need to be a certain speed, Counter-Strike did not implement a "lowest CPU limit". And also, I don't think I should be viewed as doing something "immoral" by doing this. I am not trying to get illegitimate times, I am simply attempting to learn using a non-standard method. Just because it's non-standard doesn't mean it's cheating. And cheating in this case seems to be defined by morals due to the fact that the learning method negates any argument based off of changing a program's behavior.

Well, basically I was thinking that if I get a constant....40 sync with normal speed then crank it up to 2x the speed or whatever and then practice until I get 40 sync back with 2x the speed, it will feel like slowmo when I return to normal speed, and my sync is always better when I play at a slower speed so it should hopefully increase my sync. Like I said, it only sounded reasonable before, but I'm having my doubts to that method now. Seems like too much trouble and with so much practice on 2x speed I might as well practice on 1x speed. Doesn't seem worthwhile in the end to me to do it that way.

Offtopic: I got my longest LJ ever a few nights ago. I hit a 243 something on pianoclimb doing the highjump gap part. And I was able to jump 240+ 4 or 5 times in a row. I peed a little with excitement. I was jumping over the stairs, so I was negating the HJ.

[blockquote]Cheating characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others.[/blockquote]

So yeah technically you are cheating :P. But leave out that last bit because your aren't doing it at the expense of others :).

But as you said, everyone has their own way of learning and I respect that.

GLHF with your longjumping.

If we are to use definitions of cheating, lets use Merriam-Webster's definition.

transitive verb
1: to deprive of something valuable by the use of deceit or fraud
2: to influence or lead by deceit, trick, or artifice
3: to elude or thwart by or as if by outwitting

intransitive verb
1 a: to practice fraud or trickery
1 b: to violate rules dishonestly
2: to be sexually unfaithful —usually used with on
3: to position oneself defensively near a particular area in anticipation of a play in that area
— cheat·er noun

My assumption is that I would be characterized under 'intransitive verb 1b - to violate rules dishonestly'. Firstly, I'm quite honest about what I am doing. Secondly, this goes back to what I had said about what is actually considered cheating and it once again, boils down to a moral issue. Am I cheating if I am telling you what I'm doing and how I'm doing it? Am I cheating because I'm doing something you're not even though you could be? Is it cheating to only be affecting hardware and not software, because that's essentially what I'm doing? It's all morals. If you want to boil it all the way down to the EULA then by their definition of course I am cheating because those are made to basically encompass anything at their discretion. But even they can't use the definition 'cheating' because it's incorrect according to the definition, they just have the right do suspend me. It ends up coming down to who do you want to side with and what are your morals, just as I've said countless times before.
