ok, first of all the... sync!
6 strafes are much easyer to sync than 8 BUT your stats with 6 will always look much better than your 8strafe-stats!
the reason is that the 6strafe-stats are always "almost perfect" synced, so you get much speed ( but the strafes are slow, so you loose much distance). with 8 strafes the stats will look not that good (like you said)
but the fact that you do more and faster strafes gives you much more distance!
the 2nd thing you have to know is that you will loose much more distance with 6 strafes than with 8. for example take the ljbeam!
if you do 4 strafes the beam will show you a S-SHAPE, but if you do 8 or 10 the beam will be almost a straight line.
so! if you get uberstats with 6 strafes 340+ maxspeed, 64+ gain and 90+ sync but only 250-253 distance you can be sure that your strafes are too slow or too big!

like this:

you can get good stats with this too but it will be much harder for you to
get stats over 255 than with 7 or 8 strafes!

actually the first strafe is the most important one!
try to keep the airtime as low as possible to get much speed for your jump (15-18% is perfect)

another really important thing is the gain.
to get a good distance, your first 3 strafes should have 10+ gain!
my stats looked like this ( atm i can only do 7)

i keep my gain constant on almost each strafe ( but this only works if you have +7 gain on the 4,5,6 and maybe 7th strafe)
you will get the best result if you are able to get gain out until the last strafe (only for 7 and 8 strafes) ( dont care if its 0.x or 1, thats enough)

so what can you do?!
i think you should try to make 7 strafes if you cant sync 8!
if you can sync your 7 strafes all the time you can start to try 8.
at the beginning they will be unsynced and wont give you much speed but if you keep practicing it, you will be able to handle them soon!
