Explain Longjumps
Not certain this is the right section but anyway:
Can someone explain the reasons why longjumps work and how strafing increases speed?
Also, what's 'prestrafing' and how does it affect your speed/distance?
And what would make the PERFECT jump, lets say you did everything right one time - what would it need (timing wise, movement wise, etc) for a long jump
I've been practising LJ's this week with the intent to manage a 256 jump, 255 unit on longjumps2
With no experience until this week, and only from watching demos I've managed 255 jumps (from the server stats and a 253/254 unit jump on longjumps2) - not sure how I can improve without actual knowledge behind how it works.
So experts, enlighten me :) if I manage to get placed high in the LJ records by the end of the week/month I plan to make a minimovie of my findings, might be interesting so let me in on everything you know :)
First of all very nice about that 255! I have been playing for 2 years and I still can't manage to do 250 block.
The prestrafe is the speed you do on ground. The turn before you jump. It gives you slightly more speed but it's crucial in order to do a good jump. Different weapons have different maxspeeds and they affect the prestrafe. For an example, famas has 240 maxspeed. That means 10 less than normal 250. So the prestrafe maximum is 268.something, 10 less than 278 which is the max prestrafe with knife.
The strafing itself works because you gain speed when you strafejump. I have no idea why but it's what happens. So instead of making just 1 strafe, why not make more to gain more speed? And more speed you get, more distance you get. There are other factors too but I'm not the right person to explain them.
Ah, the perfect jump. You can jump 300 units with a slowmotion hack, which is consired cheating and you should never use it except for studying, don't make any demos with it for anything but personal use. You will be flamed and banned from various sites if you get busted with it. The slowmotion hacks works like this: It slows down the Counter-Strike allowing you to sync and do more strafes. And ofcourse there are scripts. I think the maximum without developer 1 is 283 countjump and about 269 longjump. I am not sure though.
I am very sorry about my English skills. I know they aren't perfect but I hope you understood what I was talking about, good luck!
done cheating in real cs and cheating here now? not going to work
255 in one week ? wtf ?
Oddi, looked like perfect english to me : D
So the 'strafes' and 'sync', I assume the mouse turning has something to do with it. Is the 'sync' based on pressing the right directional key at the right time, ie as soon as you begin turning one direction you press A, then when you start turning back you press D?
or should you be past the 'center' line before you switch keys?
Saying in one week might be an exagerration on my part, I've been playing CS since beta I've just never purposefully tried 'long jumps' although I've probably been doing them forever (when I started this week, I could get 235 jumps quite easily)
Sw1ft1, I thought i'd come here for something different, also thought I'd meet a different type of community than the 'i heard u cheat so u cheat' stuff..
Thanks for the thorough reply Oddi^. Are there any settings that should be non-default on a local server? I can do the same distances on the xtreme jumps server but I want to make sure everythings exactly the same.
The sync is based on how smoothly you move your mouse when you press A/D. Like when you press A, you look left and when you press D you look right. So it measures how many per cent of the time you hold down A/D you turned your mouse into the right direction.
The default is what the Xtreme-Jumps server has, so no need to change anything.
so let me get this straight....this guy is claiming to be able to jump 255 stats, not only that BUT he claims to have achieved this after 1 week? without any knowledge on HOW to longjump or what strafes/prestrafe is? umm yeah right buddy.
my guess is ur best is 225 not 255 and your tryin to lie ur way through the pissing contest that is xj.
heres a tip, if you want to learn then you went the right way about it, but at the same time you made yourself look like a total dickhead. just say 'can you guys help me out with how to do this' dont lie saying your good when your clearly not cause that gets you nowhere. good luck with longjumping, and i really do hope you achieve the results you're hoping to.
Spunge813 can i ask u for demo of u lj'ing ?
nobody reached the REAL LIMIT yet, (I talk about the scripters ofc).. and no1 can tell exactly what they could be.. but some of them knows how all the cj/bhop/lj stuff works, I personaly managed to find some new techniques with scripts and some of my tests were successful.. but the others were failure :P
VOOD, certainly
Hazard, try not to make assumptions like that, and if you do, don't call me a 'dickhead' based on the assumption. I wouldn't lie about a number of units, I'll give all demos which will be used for the mini movie I make (I intend to make a small movie with a 'documentary' type approach to the process of learning LJ's, and maybe extend it to count jumps)
And on request I'll do whatever jumps I can on a server in real time so you know there is no slowmotion hack or scripts.
And yes, I did come asking me with help on how to do something. I didn't come in here to show off my LJ distance (which I assume isn't impressive to those high in the records - its entirely populated with 255+)
I take your defensive / offensive approach to the thread as a sign that you haven't achieved said numbers - and you would like to believe I haven't either. I'm trying to come to the community with something that might be appreciated, I've been asked alot to make KZ movies but always passed it off as I have had no experience with it myself.
"without any knowledge on HOW to longjump or what strafes/prestrafe is?"
Basically all your doing is what i've been doing to 'roof to rock' jump for 10 years. I can look at a demo, immitate it, make guesses at what's going on. I didn't need the technical knowledge behind your terms to be able to jump in CS.
Grrr, I think I've seen scripted LJ videos by you on youtube, is the best method simply 'move left look left, move right look right' or is there more to it?
yeah were definitely going to believe a known cheater in multiple leagues can do 255 in 1 weeks practice without knowing what a prestrafe is. you have already failed in this cheating endeavor.
I'm sure you have your own ways of checking for scripts and cheats, so be my guest. Never been banned in the only league I play in, ESL.
oh and,
Distance: 256.329467 MaxSpeed: 335.502807
(60.692) PreStrafe: 274.810638 Strafes: 6 Sync: 8
realtime :} @ 81.92.219.208:37150
I'm sure this thread is bullshit, but anyway i'm requesting for demo, typing stats isnt a proof that u really did them.
No demo = you are a fag which is trying to look cool.
and that server's top15 is full of remo's script xD

Sync is how many time in percents you gained speed. Like 50% sync is that you half of the time gained speed and other half didnt gained.
so if you gain the maximum speed halfway through the jump, you will only end up with approximately 50% sync?
What is it that causes the gain in speed? and what relation does it have to the direction you're turning? o
is it simply the direction you're facing, or does the actual turning motion add to it?
well actually ive got a 254 block video on youtube :S and have done 255. so please dont come here with your claims of 256+ stats and 255s saying you'll give demos willingly, yet wait a minute....you havent given one yet? :O!!! im shocked
before you say "i have the demos" one more time, link us to them, im sure everybody is just dying to see them.
this thread is just lol. you 'assume' 255 is easy cause u see lots of people have it on the list...yet anyone whos actually tried ljing, knows its much, MUCH harder to achieve - without cheats that is.
so do everyone(including yourself) a favour, and either put up or shut up.

In theory it doesn't matter where you are facing, but in CS you have only 4 ways to go (let's imagine we are observing the player from the sky): left, right, forward, backwards (WASD). To strafe succesfully, you need to make the strafe movement stepless so that you're not limited to those axises. To acquire that, you need to move your mouse in some direction.
You don't really need to understand that, just move your mouse with the correct velocity while pressing the strafe key and you'll be fine.

So ideally, as soon as you cross the 'center' line (the direction you're jumping) you would want to switch keys? So that the motion is always 'forward' and not left/right?
