For a strafe to the left ,the currect order in the screen from left to right is ,and then press A,so it require you to du a fast turn to the outer when finished a strafe to get the best position for the next strafe,or lift your key a bit early at the end for about 0.01sec,which is almost impossible

thats only a 240 block but the plugin says its 252 jump

I dont have time right now to get a 255 on a 255 block, but I'll get one tonight hopefully.

And to the people denying everything, i'm sure a 252 unit demo isn't enough to claim i've made a 256 - so disregard this post and wait until I post a demo that will satisfy you.

What is it that causes the gain in speed? and what relation does it have to the direction you're turning? o

is it simply the direction you're facing, or does the actual turning motion add to it?

In theory it doesn't matter where you are facing, but in CS you have only 4 ways to go (let's imagine we are observing the player from the sky): left, right, forward, backwards (WASD). To strafe succesfully, you need to make the strafe movement stepless so that you're not limited to those axises. To acquire that, you need to move your mouse in some direction.

You don't really need to understand that, just move your mouse with the correct velocity while pressing the strafe key and you'll be fine.

So ideally, as soon as you cross the 'center' line (the direction you're jumping) you would want to switch keys? So that the motion is always 'forward' and not left/right?

Thanks for the replies.

Exactly.

Omg this is bullshit! Everyone who did 255+ stats exactly knows what is strafe, prestrafe. Its ike winning a dragrace versus veterans without knowledge on how to drive a car.
If you would missed the stats part in your general post then i'll be glad to help you, but now i see that u are faking alot now. I dont know is it the distance, playing time or smth, but something is lie in here.

spunge81314/09/2009 22:17

I posted a demo a few posts up.

I know what strafing is of course, i'm not an idiot. I just don't know the exact definitions - neither do some people in this thread (someone wasn't sure on what sync was based on for example)

I'm trying to get some real knowledge and information about it not just explaining what strafing is. And thankfully some people have been helpful. I realise it makes me look like an idiot, asking what strafing is, but I'm really asking for possibly more indepth information than you yourself know.

you're right. 252 is no indication of a 256. any beginner longjumper can fluke a 252 stat every so often. 256 takes skills and practice, more than 1 week. u fail.

Trolis15/09/2009 11:45

Between 252 and 256 units its huuuge difference

Punk^15/09/2009 12:33

Oh my.. stop flaming him.
As far as I understood, he's trying to figure out why a Longjump works as it does.
I find this interesting, because I myself is not sure how a prestrafe and sync works, and why a strafe increases your speed.

So you choose to believe, I came on here lying saying I did 255. When really I hadn't done anything (you said I probably got 225), then I did some 255's and 256's on that portugese longjump server aswel as the xtreme jumps server (can check the stats/logs or whatever), then I made a demo of a less impressive but still better than 'beginner' level, and you claim its a fluke. That's abit wacky.

kz[a] Hazard15/09/2009 16:18

whats a bit "wacky" was you claiming to come here to learn and not to prove how good you are, but at every opportunity you seem to try to prove yourself (to no avail)

and i didnt say it was a fluke, but for someone with the ability to jump 256 to only be able to pull out a 252 on demo is yet another instance of what is "wacky"

like i said before - if you want to learn, then learn. but dont say you're better than you really are cause it makes you look like a try hard and a loser.

spunge81315/09/2009 16:38

I'd done 255 when I started the thread, I've done 256 now. There's been no lying about anything, you're the one getting bent out of shape over the unit numbers. It's not relevant to the thread but you seem to be getting overly concerned about the numbers.

ExboCooope15/09/2009 17:51

SYNC isn't the only factor

SYNC indicates your skill of switching keys matching with switching mouse, but it doesn't show how well is your strafe
Sometimes i do 245 with 5 strafes 45sync maxspeed 308
Sometimes i do 239.9 with 5 strafes 70sync maxspeed 312

Why i didn't get much speed and distance in the second jump?
Because I strafe too much which at the same time decrease my Strafe Power while increase my Decay

it's your stats from demo, how with such bad stats u made 252 -.- ?
with 4 strafes ~80 sync 275pre ~310-330ms i hardly can do even 250 -.-

spunge81315/09/2009 19:07

Not sure what you mean, I don't really understand those figures

VOOD15/09/2009 19:13

anyway, waiting for your 255 demo (:

kz[a] Hazard16/09/2009 01:15

pull up a chair VOOD, you'll be waiting a while.

I suggest you keep reading this post:

We're trying to figure out that. Tho your main question on the "why" has already been answered there.
We all know that there is alot of knowledge based on experience with longjumping. But still mathproof > experience :P
