I hope you guys can see that we are indeed trying to make the best out of what we've got, which is in some cases... not as much as you might think.

Lagster never said that you weren't trying to make the best out of it. He just said that the results are disappointing.

When my house is on fire, I can try to extinguish the fire myself, I can call for help or I can do both. Each option has good intentions and is trying to make the best out of it. However, there is only one optimal solution. For who's interested, I would go for option 1 because that's the most exiting one hahah!

Your post was very informative, you should share that information more frequently with your community and even have more open discussions about such problems, like with the sponsors et cetera... They might provide different solutions, more optimal to the current one.

There's no sense in letting a thread go on like that, when you know it's just gonna get worse.

So then you just delete the whole thread? Talking about optimal solutions...

Doesn't make sense at all, instead you could remove those flameposts and punish the guy responsible for that, not the whole thread with a lot of good arguments and posts, that's what we needed to get sponsors right?

What's next? Deleting the whole website as soon as there is one bad thread, user, post or image? You can fill it in...

Btw plague, did you just try to explain the word 'cleanup' to us? haha

pLaguE^22/08/2010 21:34

I didn't delete anything, the arguements are still there, it's not like you can't read them. And why shouldn't i close the thread. You said i disrespected people and their opinions...if you think that, you still have no clue why i closed it.

Also, i know your joking when saying i'm gonna delete the whole website(?) or are you serious.

Well, people evidently didn't understand the word 'cleanup' so i helped them out.

Also, i said i was done talking to you, because you don't understand what im trying to do. So i'll say it again, i'm done with you. Stop calling me out like that's going to do anything.

J!nX^22/08/2010 21:45(edited 23/08/2010 13:16)

I asked you why did you close the thread? You told me you closed it because it is going to end in a flamewar. I said, instead of closing a good thread with a lot of potential...(you even agreed with me on this) you could try to keep the 'flame' under control and delete the bad posts?

But no... your solution was to sabotage the whole thread by closing it and now we got nothing left to debate about... great!

Btw, if you are saying that I'm dumb and I got no clue why you closed the thread then it can't be hard for mr. plague to explain it to me right?

Because I like you, I'll rephrase my last example for you because you think there is a huge difference between deleting and closing a thread.

"What's next? Closing the whole website as soon as there is one bad thread, user, post or image, or a possibility it is going to end in a flamewar."

Well, people evidently didn't understand the word 'cleanup' so i helped them out.

Nah, they understand the word but they just don't understand why it happened or why it was necessary to do a 'cleanup'. Faker explained (partly) why it was necessary (eg: sponsors and image).

Also, i know your joking when saying i'm gonna delete the whole website(?) or are you serious.

You know that I'm joking but you still ask if I'm serious?

faker

If this is was the sponsors say, what can we do about i? What you try now is to make very hard and straight rules, so immature forum posts and members get their punishment and with that cleanup the forum might look more mature in the end. So you want to fake the average attitude of our members and thereby the age of our members? (The sponsors concluded from the behaviour of the members to their age, you want to change the behaviour to fake the age?)

Sorry, I can't understand your perspective in this regard at all.

Faking our users’ age? That's not even possible, even if we tried (for whatever reasons); for one users can configure their birthday in their profiles, so it's very easy to tell how old they are even if they do not post in the forum.

What I wanted to say is this: Our younger users have a higher tendency to do NOT read (or care about) the rules and act like they want to do, we all know these kind of problems from people working in the kinder garden or the first classes in school as teachers (getting stressed because the kids are driving them insane). Sure, our average user is a bit older than that, but the pattern of behavior is still the same in some cases.

We can never ever make that problem go away, not with censoring the forums and not with restricting registration (or any other idea), but the most important thing is how we deal with the problem, it reflects our community and the so called "professionalism" in it.

Of course the companies will get disappointed anyway sooner or later (just like Hispasolutions, I'm their only customer for now) when they see that a lot of people that come here usually don't want to spend money on computer games or servers or don't have much money to spend anyway, but that's an experience that neither we nor the company can predict, because nobody knows if a certain ad or offer is not going to be successful nevertheless.

But it's at least the forum quality (and how we handle rule violations) is something we CAN control, we can't control if people like our sponsors or partners and buy the stuff actually.

That's why we should focus on changing stuff we CAN control and improve, especially since the low quality in the forums might be not only scaring off possible sponsors or companies, it is definitely scaring away more mature users as well; they simply don't want to see their threads being "killed" by a lot of immature and offensive replies.

J!nX^23/08/2010 22:08

Faker, I think you missed the point a bit. ChrizZo isn't talking about literally faking the average user age. He is saying that you are trying to make it look like the average user is more mature than they actually are, by removing the 'bad' quality posts.

But define bad quality posts, if a sponsor wants more maturity then I assume that 'lol' posts are bad quality comments? I think ChrizZo is afraid that you are trying to show off with the more mature users in order to get more sponsors but it also implicates that you kinda oppress the less mature / immature users aka the majority of this community. Less mature people want to talk about less mature topics that aren't going to attract any sponsors. Is your solution to oppres this in some way and to stimulate the more mature part?

But we might be talking about diifferent 'bad' quality comments, it's obviously you should delete offensive posts... but based on your post you are suggesting it goes further than that.

Well, yeah I did understand that it was meant literally, but I still doubt it's even possible - at least not as long as we still respect the freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

Of course the young users will still make "bad quality" posts, but at least their offensive, spam and pointless posts will be filtered out, so it will definitely improve the forum quality without "faking" anything or banning the freedom of expression.

That's why I doubt that a stricter interpretation of the rules can be considered as "faking" quality tbh.

But we might be talking about diifferent 'bad' quality comments, it's obviously you should delete offensive posts... but based on your post you are suggesting it goes further than that.

Yeah, I admit it's hard to find a good "definition" for forum quality or quality posts and that it will be hard to find the balance. It will have to go over common sense most of the time, I guess.

Let me give an example: Posting "lol" will definitely not get you warned, but admins might check your last 50 posts and if your average post is 1-2 words long you might get warned for spamming.

There might be some borderline decisions which might cause a bit drama, sure, but I can't see why this cleaning action is a bad thing to do... because... to be honest... it can't get much worse than it is at the moment, can it?

Vee mapper VIP25/08/2010 04:43

Lagster, I strongly suggest you to stop trying to act as a grown up, you are clearly very far from it (I could quote a lot of your comments, but I save time by not doing it at all).
The forum cleanup idea was given by faker and I am doing it very slowly (and now Punk^ joined me), whenever I can. I do not spend otherwise useful time in cleaning the forums, as you say. There is no historical value whatsoever behind the posts/threads being deleted, there is no useful time waste, what are you whining so much about? The cleanup is a voluntary work done by voluntary admins, so what is wrong with it?
I'm honestly tired of seeing you whine, whine and then whine again, and I couldn't be less happy that chrizZo joins you on your quest to pointlessness, but whatever. If you want to help us with our goals, if you really want to help the website, do as all of the financially capable admins: donate, and we'll use the funds as faker quoted, to build a better website, to make the dream come true.
I'm sure someone will point out some lame argument citing (but not saying he was talking about it) the puppetz incident and saying oh-how-Vee-is-a-bad-admin. But at least I'm here, I'm trying and I'm trying hard. The question is, are you?

lagster mapper25/08/2010 07:12(edited 25/08/2010 07:15)

Sorry, I will stop acting grown up..

Are you serious? My bad, I should start typing in the horrible excuse for English you use. This coming from Vitor, the biggest troll from PhooGi, your not even fit to mention chrizZo's name, well done 'demo admin'.

Shut down constantly then as soon as faker comes and speaks some sense, theres Vee holding his hand. You didn't answer anything or come up with anything over both threads.

Get off my fucking case, I stopped posting days ago because everything has been said, the admins aren't taking anything I said seriously because people like you and plague seem to think I'm flaming, thus fuck wasting my team.

Well done again Vee, just like AETIUS, new admin talking down to community members, I've been here a lot longer than you AND you still think you have 1up on me because you release demos.. congratulations, your parents know your a star! Keep reviewing those demos champ :)

edit: Read through your posts again, fuck its painful, having a go at me for acting grown up, what are they teaching you in school wow lol.

DiDo-Grecord holder25/08/2010 12:20

I am wondering ARE THERE PC's in india?

lagster mapper25/08/2010 12:27

Am surprised?

Are you just backing up my points, sick English man cause we ALL understand what your saying.

This from the guy that said 'Why can't we go back to how it was 5 years ago' You weren't even around 5 years ago mate. Just back off ffs.

аli25/08/2010 12:57(edited 26/08/2010 09:45)

A3T!U$ why you even edited your post from something like "Are you high? XD" to "Am surprised."?

that was kinda fail.

Am amused.

oh and btw non-stop-italic-abusion is pain in arse to read. i had to paste every post you wrote into notepad.exe in order to read it properly. i hope it's not your desire to discriminate such ppl like me with italic-dyslexia. :(

Am disappointed.

lagster mapper25/08/2010 13:19

The italic thing is some sweet admin thing so he can become known, since he start posting last week.

sweet though, no matter who posts the admins will still tell me off for absolutely nothing, calling me immature despite misinterpreting what I post because they are unable to understand a decent level of English.

That's bullshit and you know it ;)

Just like you lagsterrr, I've stopped posting in both threads because both threads had nothing in common with their names if you browsed the last couple of posts. Maybe this one still struggles... but it's not going anywhere. And you know why? Because people started throwing accusations instead of suggestions...

Oh well...

DiDo-Grecord holder25/08/2010 16:20

lol this is a question ?

lagster mapper25/08/2010 16:29(edited 25/08/2010 16:32)

Are you kidding? Faker talks about how he wants to remove posts to make the site look more professional. The sites main language is English, and in the rules it states English is the only language to be used, yet the weekly and news-posts are grammatically incorrect, you want the site to look professional for sponsors and investors and the first thing they see is unprofessionally written posts on the frontpage even before they come to the forums HMMMM GO FIGURE..

Exactly what s1gh said AGES ago about the tutorials and when he did, he got flamed, just another member trying to help..

PS. as for the accusations, at least you understand unlike the rest of this moronic posts about me being immature/begging for acceptance/trolling/flaming, links directly into my argument, either people are plain stupid or just can't understand what I'm trying to say gg.

True words.

lagster mapper25/08/2010 17:53

Just wait, another excuse incoming as to how much of a horrible person I am and the motivation behind me trying to kill the site.

Watch, lets just watch what happens.

Am i the only one who cant read this italic shit from italo-boi?

LAGSTERRrRkz[a] , the guy who is afraid of being banned while posting his thoughts, but can't understand that he will be banned with constantly being insulting towards people who don't share his opinions. Nice guy imo
