Fixing random bhops? Sure, good job but this... this is overkill as **** :| It's almost impossible to fail at the bhops unless you're an idiot :/
Well at least now you won't have to deal with cheats since it will be same shit legit or cheat x)

Raptor 06/09/2014 03:27(edited 06/09/2014 03:29)

I was thinking about this and the skill argument, and I honestly believe skill is still essential to completing bhop - you still need to strafe properly, time the jump, there are just no worries about losing speed because of "random" issues and luck. I feel generally this is a fun change, even the most skilled players benefit from more reliable jumping. Not having to worry about losing your speed also makes bhop more feasible in kz, and you can focus on personal skill and technique with no fear now. It's a smoother experience and less frustrating.

Nikita.. Nikita... my man, you know i love you as a person and this is nothing personal but...
Correct me if I'm wrong but what did you say when I asked you about what do you think of kzmod before this bhop change? Oh right, you said kzmod sucked, when I asked for a reason I think you said at first that bhop is weird, but when I asked besides that (i.e if bhop wasn't "weird") you pretty much said nothing which led me to believe that it's because it's kzmod and not 1.6. Now this is a very prejudiced viewpoint.

And here's the definition of prejudiced:
1 having an unreasonable dislike of someone or something, especially a dislike of a group of people who belong to a different race, sex, or religion - used to show disapproval:

I mean basically, you didn't like kzmod because it's kzmod and not 1.6, without any reasonable argument whatsoever. I believe when I asked you something along the lines of "what if bhop would be fixed" (after that first tentative reason you gave me), would you play then? Your answer was clearly no due to bias. You didn't want to play the game anyway, no matter what changes were about to come. With all due respect I don't think Nikita's opinion on this matter is "valid" because he disliked kzmod either way due to an ambiguous excuse and wasn't going to play it no matter what.

This might also be the 10% of people that would be unhappy about the change I warned you about Raptor, you know, those guys that never had any slowdowns in the first place like kayne.

In any case, you guys are free to play 1.6 with its retarded gameplay (which was the reason I quit in the first place ofc, random bhops, and because of that, constant suspicions of cheaters), but now you also have an alternative called kzmod, a game with non-idiotic gameplay, which I will of course always prefer. Nobody said the two had to be the same and there's a thing called preference. I will probably never play 1.6 again in terms of jumping and never look back. Good riddance.

And obviously you already stated one of the change's major advantages - that cheating will be useless and the urge to cheat will be gone.

hi raptor. There's no func_pushable in hammer. It would be cool if you could make it teleport back to its start position after you stop your timer or start a new run. The +use flybug should also be removed imo. I never used func_pushable in 1.6 because of those bugs

oh also. please make them able to trigger things e.g. pushing them into a trigger_multiple or onto a func_button with the flag called 'touch activates' (not sure if that's what they're called in kzmod hammer).

lol i had a Tomb Raider/Lara Croft idea in mind while writing this. anyway I have another idea now. add an entity called func_pickup. This is an entity you pick up ingame and can use it at a later point in the map. It could be a key or a level card or something else.

Ok i have another idea now lol. Well since it's pretty easy to create spheres in kzmod hammer. Maybe you could have an entity called func_boulder. It should basically just make the entity roll on the floor once you activate it or w/e. you could also add damage on hit as one of its properties.

ok 1 more idea - func_movingladder, pretty self-explanatory right? My friend SilverNinja is currently making a moving ladder in 1.6 for his huge 2 man map (won't spoil too much) by using some work around to make it happen.

Ok that's it for now. I'd appreciate if you'd look into some of my ideas and perhaps even make them become real.

BacoN06/09/2014 11:47

I still have no idea what you guys mean by random bhops. Are you just making the window bigger to time your bhops? if so why not just let us hold down a button to bhop? I'm not sure why you would spend so much time to make the game more like 1.6 then just start moving away from it again lol. Anyways back to the "random" part is it that you are timing the bhop perfect with the right frame and getting slowdowns? or is it that you are miss timing the bhops? if it is the latter, that is not "random". Can you while you are at it make it so I don't have to sync my strafes cause my sync on my strafes is random. See what I did there.

Apart from that good work on continuing to work on the project.

goatse06/09/2014 12:16

indeed timing the bhop must not be easy. i hope you keep kzmod as close as possible to 1.6. gl

kQbmigrecord holder06/09/2014 12:22

but it'll attract cheaters to ruin the game again. so no, bhop is staying as it is right now.

goatse06/09/2014 12:35

lol you think the difficulty level attracts cheaters? is someone wants to cheat he will

kQbmigrecord holder06/09/2014 12:51

what I'm trying to say is: you won't have any advantage using a bhop hack in this game, whereas in 1.6 you have a HUGE advantage by using it. Have you guys even tried it? It's not like you automatically become a bhop god just because timing is easier, there's still plenty of skill involved.

ShoCkrecord holder Tournament #2 VIP06/09/2014 13:28(edited 06/09/2014 13:38)

It gives me mixed feelings when I think of this "bhop fixing". On the one hand, why fixing something that isn't broken? Difficulty of being able to time bhop is what classifies tiers and this is where all the competition takes place. What you're doing is nuking off the better part of the gameplay. Cheaters exist. Cheaters exist in any game, there is just no way you can stop cheaters, resorting to such measures can as easily be equated to if cs:go would have implemented auto aim feature to the game. At least let the true kz connoisseurs enjoy the real kz.

On the other hand
nah just that.

let me finish that off for you. On the other hand: If i wanted to have shitty random slowdowns there's always 1.6.

You play this game for years and I haven't seen any complaint from you before recent announce of kzmod, yet you do success with shitty slowdowns. Don't tell me your only impulse for that is to keep cheaters in distance because in your last post you worded it as if you would hate the game and only. I'm not getting it tbh.

Cobrex mapper Tournament #206/09/2014 14:14

ShoCk, I bet this happened many times to you: try a WR for several days, no luck; all the sudden, you manage to do a run better than the current wr, but you still have few jumps left; your heart is urging; you fear failing; it comes to the last combo; you the first 3 blocks, but then comes the 4th one which leds to the 5th; you bhop as you did before on the 4th block; bcuz of stupid frame & +jump command you fail reaching the 5th block; you're shocked; you don't understand how could you fail an easy bhop like that; then you realize its all about stupid frames and luck, cuz no human being can time every bhop perfectly (unless you're kenlawrence).
This is what kzmod fixes. I play 1.6 since early 2009 ... don't you think normally there should be a demo of mine on the record list until now? I hated recording just because the bhop was random ... sometimes you're lucky to perform a "deadly" combo, sometimes you're not. Its not only about timing. Frames are something you can't control, its random.
Being able to time bhop perfectly doesn't have to do with skill only, its about luck too. Anyone that doesn't agree must be an hypocrite, because these are facts!

Those of you who are complaining about the new change ... you're just some guys that played 1.2's version for 2 hours, didn't try to rape a map, only experienced the new game & you did not even check the new "improved" bhop.

Z0ck3rOO706/09/2014 14:28(edited 06/09/2014 14:28)

Ok, as I understand the explanation from Raptor, he changed the frame-based timing of getting a good bhop to a time-based timing (50ms instead of 1 frame if I remember right).
That means it makes no difference if you have 100fps or 300fps, you still have the same chances to do a good bhop.
About the random bhop thing, imo its just a mindgame. From my old recording days I can tell you, that the closer you get to the endtimer, the more nervous you get and the possibility of not getting the bhop right and fail raises.
The "random" slowdown is just a indicator for missing bhop-skill :)

goatse06/09/2014 14:33

well it will help the average player to become more competitive which is not so bad if you are trying to increase the competition cuz lets be honest the bhop scene has been squeezed out for some time now..
p.s. is there any way i can download kzmod 2.0 beta?

Mathzz06/09/2014 14:34(edited 06/09/2014 16:57)

I can understand where he comes from, and I can also understand why a fix like this would be necessary for a standalone game like kzmod which is entirely focused on jumping. Why? For instance, if kzmod is aimed to attract more players outside our already existing communities and cs veterans, the core mechanics of 1.6 jumping is too complicated for real newbies to understand, let alone master it within few hours to enjoy the game.
Sure it will suck for people that have already gone through the process of learning it and have years of experience playing it on 1.6, BUT I am assuming the bigger picture of this project is to attract more players to the game. And by doing so, they have to dumb down the gameplay (which in 1.6 are very luck based if you look it on a coding perspective) so it can appeal to everyone, even to those fresh newbies that just installed the game can enjoy the game and get the same experience as everyone else.

My theory is that in order to get kzmod fully recognized and get it out for the world to enjoy it, they would seriously need to dumb it down a lot. I would even go as far and say that they would probably have to code in so that every strafe you do gives everyone the same advantage in both stat and speed wise, so a complete fresh player could compete with the veterans and not feel obligated to play the game in hours end and still not see any results. Also, problem with the 1.6 jumping is that it's a huge mess. For us who have played it for years already know how it works and it's easy, but imagine if the game went mainstream and hundreds of thousands new players swarmed to the game, but find themselves tied behind random generated number game which defines how well their jump and bhop performs? That's a HUUUUGE disadvantage for them, and a massive flaw for the business. It's about bringing in more people, right? Probably wouldn't go far in its current form.
This is called balance, and it's also one of the very reasons a lot of games get dumbed down, so that everyone can do well on that said game and still feel like he/she accomplished something by pressing the same buttons as everyone else.
Just imagine how many outcries and whining there would be if it became mainstream with 1.6 based jumping? It would be horribly toxic community.

TLDR: From a business stand point, these fixes are essential for a game to sell for the general public. You don't sell an FPS game with a weird code mechanic where you can do a button smashing combo which suddenly makes your gun unload 10 times faster at your enemies, right? That's not balanced and is a game breaking mechanic.
And this is exactly why we see nerfs on multiplayer games, like it or not, but when something becomes overpowered it will kill the experience for others. Left unfixed leaves unhappy costumers, unhappy costumers leave the game, game left alone leaves a dead game. You get the point.

YES LETS HAVE A DEBATE PLS

It's good to have variety. Should we remove bhopraceways from kzmod as well just because 1.6 doesn't have it? In my opinion 1.6 is an utter failure and a broken game, kzmod offers an alternative to me.

No I don't see what you did there. That's a different "kind" of randomness. When i was competing with napz on kz longjumps yesterday my ljstats were as follows : 252,225,250,230 etc. I felt that it was due to lack of skill and not the kind of randomness we're talking about when it comes to bhop. I just need to get my ass back into longjumping.

It's not about easy or hard, sure it shouldn't be easy, but it should never be random as well, hence kzmod, gl.

If it wasn't broken, why are so worried about this change? Nothing changed for you right? Or do you KNOW that there's something broken and you don't want it fixed?

false comparison, implementing autoaim would remove skill. We didn't remove any skill, we removed randomness, if anything, it takes MORE skill now. There's far more to kz than timing the bhop (and yes timing the bhop is STILL there). Sure maybe all times will get better, but the concept will remain the same. Think of it as a slight gameplay change. There will still be one record holder and recording will still take a lot of time and skill, JUST WITHOUT the randomness.

I'm not sure what a true kz connoisseur means, but I've been playing 1.6 since 2006, and I've been hating 1.6 since 2006 for this very bhop randomness reason. Now we have non-retarded gameplay. Anyway i'll be gone all day and check replies later.

Juice06/09/2014 15:03

Bhop feels faster than 1.6 for me. I comboed everything before climb part on goldbhop on first try, LOL. Is it because the game is tickrate-dependent or is it a mess in the code?:o

Raptor, you should also increase the maximum amount of time you can stay on blocks, 0.06s for example because sometimes when you get super slowdown (4 and more frame son ground in 1.6) you can still reach other bhop blocks even with l0w speed ;)

This, if there was such a thing as "random bhop" / possible to fail without actually failing that would mean that all the hacks also had a possibility to fail, which they don't :|

And sooshka, I said I didn't want to play it because I don't like the looks of it, and at first the bhop was EXTREMELY bad, not like 1.6, it was a lot worse, but this is definitely not a good change imo :E And no, I probably won't seriously play kzmod like recording etc... I told you last night that I won't open kzmod again, but I probably will, but I still think that 1.6 is superior in every aspect so there's no reason for me to play it, and also I'm focusing on osu nowadays so I don't even want to start another game :-)
