Hey XJ admins, could you make a poll about new maps? Whether XJ community decides whether you stop or not allowing new maps into the map pool.

Before getting ultra trashtalked in the forum, here's some arguments I'm going to give. I'm not 100% into declining new maps and forever closing the WR section, so Ill try to include positive reasons why new maps should be allowed. In the end, if we do have a poll, we can all decide!!

PROS OF DECLINING

I first thought about enumerating the reasons, but I'm more comfortable doing a paragraph about it. First off, XJ should be a place in which all WRs are hard to get. No exception. And the only way you can get that geeked WR is by letting time pass OR having a skill player doing it right away. And thats the main problem, this is not 2012, where every release you got 40 demos. Top-tier players dont even record the new maps, so they are left for newcomers or people that do runs just for the lolz. What I'm trying to say is this community should be elite-only. Either you deliver a fast demo or you don't. Think about this for a sec: imagine your favorite WR right now. And your favorite map. I GUESS (guess) it's from 2-10 years ago. Now, pretend that map never existed and it's added now. Would you feel the same way about the new WR than you did about the old one? I do not. But again, that's me. You can have your voice heard in the poll, too. And your vote counts the same as mine.

CONS OF DECLINING

Kind of a weird thing happened to me when the E bind removal was accepted. I, as a noob, was allowed to record a XJ map (!!!) and it made me quite happy. But as soon as I sent the map and it got released I thought: oh dude, this is wrong. My demo isn't as good as it SHOULD be and not even close to the time with the E bind. However, look at me now. Certainly those trash demos I sent to XJ helped me becoming a better player. This is where the hard decision relies. Also, mappers work very hard to get their maps released, which I understand as well. XJ has been accepting maps since its existance, why stopping now?

Hope we get a poll, this is ALL about a poll. If you agree/disagree but would like to have a poll, just leave a comment!!

DONT BE TRIGGERED, IF WE DO HAVE A POLL AND THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WANT NEW MAPS, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

Pls don't be serious! Maps are some of the most important influx to the community, giving everybody a chance to actually get a record - why do you think it's so important that it's SUPER hard to get ANY record? I mean if you want to get terablock or something, you'll have your hands full. But with the new maps, you can be the first and therefor have an edge. But to say we should stop accepting maps, because newcomers and less skilled players might be able to achieve a record is ludacris (where my bitches at) in my opinion.

Also you want to shut down the KZ mapping industry completely, which would just leave a lot of people very frustrated.

Let me ask you this. why is it a bad thing that less skilled players get a small window to get a record? Also what does it matter that our favourite maps usually are the older maps, that have been through the hands of so many record holders, kinda engraved into our consciousness. New maps can still bang and new maps keeps the game fresh.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how you can honestly ask us, to disband such an important part of the community.

i am for not stopping anything, just refresh the map criteria

well, yes, you are right. We can add that to cons (mappers wouldn't even visit the site, which can be translated to even less activity) Although, when I started KZ I thought XJ was a site in which every WR was hard to get, and that motivated me to get better. XJ should be a challenge. That's why we call them WORLD RECORDS: you are supposed to be the one who can do the map in less time than the others. Nowadays almost all maps that are released are not played at all besides the guy that records them. Pub servers dont add the new maps to their pool, and there isnt almost any pub server that is heavily populated. A new map should be something we are grateful for, they should be well-made, and that's not happening right now. As shooting-star said, I'm opened to accept maps that are TRULY worth it instead of removing the applications.

I knew mappers would feel attacked by this post, even when I clarified that I'm not 100% into declining new maps (something jaguarBR's IQ couldn't understand) but thank you for actually taking your time and reading it.

Totally disagree on this, people can geek the older maps all they want and yeah sure it's a bigger achievement than to rec some fresh map but to not have new official maps at all is pretty stupid.

Little offtopic: the new standards of XJ maps is pretty bad, I wish they went back to the old one where the maps need to be nocheckable and not look like total shit to be XJ-worthy. If I'd known you could submit hard/extreme maps that are no way near nocheckable(looking at you kblt_dx_mercy) I'd have submitted my latest map under a kz-tag. But I didn't because I considered it too difficult to nocheck.

The problem is, the higher the map number is (is it at 750 right now?) the more common WRs start to get. Take cosy, for example. There are WRs which weren't downloaded a SINGLE time. There is SO much to watch that people don't even know 85% of the maps exist (although cosy has 2k maps, thats a lot) Again, I respect your POV, thats why I did this post, so we can have a discussion and eventually, a poll.

Well, raising the standards back to where it used to be would drastically reduce the number of new official maps. Of the latest batch I think only fu_devhops should have been accepted. Mappers could still release their sub par or extreme maps on the forums or cosy, so nothing would be lost.

If you want so much a "pro" runs on new map then admins could simply make a maximal amount of time for a wr on a new map to be accepted.

Ex. New map - approximate 1 minute average run. For a wr to be accepted, player has to make at least 40 to 45 seconds.

Of course they have to be tested to see these approximate times.

Just a random idea I came up with.

There is no need to be an asshole i was clearly joking while editing my post to put my opinion
Why would someone be triggered by this?

I agree with shooting-star we need to change the map criteria
Also I was thinking about something similar that fantasm did in kz-endo back in 2013/2014, test servers! he used to invite players to test maps, give feedback, find bugs and socialize.

Well, when someone elaborates a posts and asks for arguments/points of view/ideas and the first comment they get is "are you high m8?" it isn't funny. Ty for bringing up the Fantasm thing.

well, you are the second guy that brings that up (i think scary did it first). As I said, I consider XJ to be the elite of demos, and cosy to be the average demo site. Of course I want a WR here to be good. It doesn't even need to be THAT good. But PLEASE, make it watchable!! The maximum time idea seems ok for me, hope they will consider it. Ty for reading

FuZzy1 mapper11/04/2018 11:03

I don't see what's the problem with bad times on new maps...
This happens since forever, it takes some time until someone does a perfect run on a new map. If top players doesn't bother to record new maps is natural that less skilled players will record it.
So don't blame the new maps or the average players who try to get an wr, blame the top players that aren't active anymore or don't give a crap about recording on xj.

minimum time? :D are u fucking serious? New maps are opportunity for newbies to get trapped by the feeling when u do the wr. I started like that as well

Well, I think the best site for new players to start is Cosy. Tons of n/a maps (due admins releasing 20 new maps every week for like 3 months)

I see not everyone agrees with me that XJ should have the very best demos of KZ. In fact, it isn't written anywhere. Thinking that XJ is more skilled that Cosy it's just something that I grew up with and can't change now lol.. I respect your opinion guys, but PLEASE, don't let XJ turn into cosy, where they release almost EVERY map that is uploaded. Leads to map superpoblation and too much diversity (some of my wrs in cosy have 0 downloads, some maps will never be played, some wrs will never be watched and so on)

Scary Tournament #211/04/2018 11:16

Yea it's like you get your 1 week of fame, until someone elite, comes around and completely nuts the rec.

this can be easily achieved by NOT accepting cosy maps that nobody is interested in playing :)

Commandeer mapper11/04/2018 11:53

This is something that should never happen. XJ as the official community should be very welcoming to new players, without new players and new maps the game will die a lot faster. Lowering the map standards a bit was the right decision in my opinion, there are not that many mappers around anymore. I agree that not every map should be accepted and that is very unlikely to ever happen here.

What XJ needs is to be a lot more welcoming to new players than it currently is. Like shooting-star said the feeling of getting your first world record on the official community is a huge motivation boost. Currently it's nearly impossible for new players to properly get involved since their records will be crushed by the veterans very quickly.

I already threw this idea in on the admin forums about a "rookie league" on XJ. A league where new players could submit demos on all maps and veterans could not record for this league. You would be forced to exit this league after a certain amount of records for example, then be moved on to play with the big boys. Unfortunately with the current resources the implementation of something like this is very difficult to do.

Now you're just talking shit... Last map release on cosy was over 1 month ago and it had only 8 maps. And 95% of those n/a maps are n/a because they are too hard to record, so not for newcomers.

As for your fear of to much maps on xj, you're safe... Xj lowered the map standards because mappers didn't submit maps anymore, and even now with the lowered standards the number of new maps is still low, and it will be even lower in the future.
