If he wanted to go to that position behind a wall. Jumping on bhop blocks could be considered moving the object before the start was pressed. I hope you can understand me. In this case everything should be legal as it always was.

thats the case of dbh_pipehop... but i actually consider a door as a "movable object" more than a "breakable object"... in the rule boths cases are contemplated :/

but the door isnt a movable object, its more like rotating around a axis (dunno if its a right word or not)

But like i said, maybe its the correct term in english language to describe the process of opening the door. So a question to all of you : How do you call it in your native language?

Still nobody answered.

this is becoming surreal

When I first started as a demoadmin here I immediately thought the rules section needs some heavy cleaning and simplifying. Currently it's just a mess which is annoying for a new player to read and gives room for too many ways to understand them.

Now I'm sure we can all agree the purpose of the rule being discussed is to forbid changing anything in the map that could make your run faster. This includes breaking stuff, moving any blocks or opening doors. I think the actual purpose of the movables rule is to literally forbid moving any blocks. It stops you from moving any possible blocks to places that could save time. Not that there are too many pushable blocks in maps anyway.

This could be simplified as something like "you're not allowed to change anything in the map before starting the timer"?

Now about the timer buttons. If I'm not mistaken you're still allowed to use the end timer button through any possible walls (correct me if I'm wrong here). Why should the start button be treated so differently? If you're able to press it from a better position to improve your time I don't see the massive problem in this?

well thats quite simple... of course u can be smart and try to end a run by pressing the end button from behind or under a wall... the fact here is the beginning of a run in where moving/breaking some objets (not blocks) may bring u some advantage BEFORE A RUN STARTS, therefore anything happens DURING a run if u decide to press end button from a wall or door or whatever u want.

plz dont try to justify or give the rule other meaning, because is very simple to understand... just modify it and thats all.. keep the current WRS at wallclimb race and bhopwarehouse and close this thread :)

Guys, to be 100% fair, you gotta check literally all the world records, the best solution would be to allow to open doors before touching the timer, modifying the previous rule, but as I said, you gotta check ALL the world records. Wouldn't be cool to remove demos because of bureaucracy, if the solution is re writing the rule then I'd go for that, if it's not, it's a little bit more complex then

I would say you can compare this to when players use hook to reach some higher ground to gain a boost for the start. These spots should be reachable by normal climbing too. So for example if there is a door in the map that needs to be opened to reach the top, you must open that too before starting your run right? Of course the door should be closed when starting the run then or it's not legal. But in the same way the player searches for a better starting position in the map.

Anyway I'm not the one who will be deciding this, just sharing my view on it. I'm fine with whatever decision is made.

agree.. those cases should be also removed if we get attached to the current rule (written as it is).

I think Commandeer is the only one who understands this situation fully.

I hope I won't see another 100+ demo removal because of a stupid rule change.

Too many rules kill the room for creativity.

This is what I'm pointing out

cahz0r Tournament #303/03/2019 15:09

lol, i thought that rule is referring to Func_pushable(movable objects like those barrels from clintmo_ maps) and not to Func_door entities(hp boosters, doors, bhop blocks..).

maybe you should change the rule to: you are not allowed to interact with any entity on the map before pressing the timer button excepting the hp button.

imo if you consider kyser's case correct and remove fyksen's demo then you should remove all the demos in which players have touched bhop blocks or any other movable entities even if it's not giving him any kind of advantage.

cahz0r Tournament #303/03/2019 15:22

like chichin said(i hope i understood correctly) if the door/bhopblock resets to it's original state/position without the help of plugins and before you press the start button then you should be allowed to open it or jump on bhop blocks to reach a better starting position.

Commandeer mapper03/03/2019 16:28

There will not be any demo removals. We'll try to rewrite the rule so that it's clear what is allowed and what is not. Such starts as in the demos mentioned before will be allowed.

Case closed :)
