kz_longjumps3(s) Community Alternatives
Hello everyone,
due to recent events, we've decided to open the doors for the community to be involved with the release of the map. However, since most of the work was already done and about to be released, there are going to be some specific requirements because of the unusual circumstaces that have occurred.
Rules:
1. The redesign/retexturing needs to keep the same techniques as presented in the current versions of kz_longjumps3 and kz_longjumps3_slides by Chichin and qicg.
2. This is NOT a mapping competition. You will not receive any kind of prizes barring the integration of the map as the official one for recording.
3. You are allowed to use the already finished versions of the maps by Chichin and qicg through the .rmf files (linked down below) OR create your own map following the aforementioned conditions, as long as you have the time to do it.
4. This could be done individually or in a collaboration with other mappers.
5. You need to keep in mind factors such as bhop blocks speeds, HJ block sizes and others so that the map is fair to the current kz_longjumps2 records and doesn't give any kind of advantage to the jumpers. You can, again, use kz_longjumps3(s) as a reference.
6. Since this is not a competition, you should submit all of your maps in this thread, so it is publically visible to everyone who's willing to help.
Deadline: 10th of July
Once all versions have been sent, we will open a poll with all the submissions (including the original maps by chichin and qicg) to let the community decide which redesigned/retextured versions of the maps they would like to see.
If you encounter any issues or you didn't understand something, feel free to ask. The map admins will also keep an eye on the submissions for any potential kind of problems. Hopefully, feedback will be ensued in due time.

New version:
kz_longjumparena_b4_Roadrunner.rar(21/07/2020) - This map has been released.
Good job opening up this project with the community.
I still got a question that isn't answered yet.
1. Why shouldn't we separate the techniques to have a better quality map?
I say this because i see that the odd numbers are missing on some techniques, also the blocks look too small compared with previous maps.
This would mean kz_longjumps3_lj, kz_longjumps3_cj _bhop _wj _ladderjump, etc.
2. What are the fonts used on the map?
3. What are the new techniques ? The poll outcome was never shown
Okay, so I've been thinking about it. I've checked out the files (wad, rmf, lights.rad etc)
If there are people that think they can feedback on the map etc feel free. In the meanwhile i would like to see if there are people willing to create an alternative. No, not silently, not single handedly. i can team up. but only if there are people willingly want to create it.
1. I believe you can approach the map however you want, as long as you follow the conditions. It was never stated that you couldn't do more than one map. So according to Rule #3 it is possible to have such liberty, keep in mind the deadline, though.
2. For kz_longjumps3, @chichin and @qicg should help out. Otherwise I believe you can use your own.
3. Rule #1 clarifies this.
This is as far as my knowledge goes, so map admins could correct me on certain bits if they weren't correct.
This is great news! Hopefully there will be mappers and others from the community willing to participiate and collaborate together for the best outcome possible.
Now as this thread seems to be the one for the map discussions, I thought I would share some ideas about the design. I gathered earlier today some preference pictures from pinterest that could give some ideas for the mappers.
A vision of the map I thought of was kind of like an institution/facility of longjumping made for developing the limits of it, like a lab or something. Few example screens of the main theme:
https://imgur.com/a/XkxNXWj
Now inside to the lj rooms. I would personally like at least some kind of external lighting used to make it more realistic and visually pleasing. Some basic light panels used some way or what ever you guys come up with. Maps like synergy_x/x2 has them to upgrade the design but still not distracting too much. Doesn’t need to be used like in synergy, just as preference. Below I linked some preference pictures for the actual rooms:
https://imgur.com/a/qaXUBh8
Also this design for the overall theme was pretty cool:

Anyways I would love to hear others thoughts on how they see the map. I hope that the mappers that will start working with it would openly discuss about it here and share screens etc for gathering feedback widely from the community.
jigsaw proposed here earlier that if there would be an upper platform for doing wj on cj blocks. That was really cool idea imo. Maybe add some kind of ladder to enter a higher level for wj’s. Also would be nice if you could have access to all wj blocks from the upper stage so you wouldn’t need to go down to change the block.
Nice idea Nubz, i really like it that you shared it.
i would like to post some moodboard myself.

First of all, your open doors are for the eye mostly, and cripple any attempt thru them.
Why is this thread not about the project with more info?
Where is the rush in making the map/s ?
All of a sudden is about making the maps, and not the community project.
And seems this project is not important to get a newspost.
-I get it, you put work into those maps and want them over all others, however reducing time of the community to discuss, work and build this to success is of tragic line of thought.
-You secretly tried something for 3+ months (from what poker said about the old newspost that is that old) and now you tell others for no more than 1 month to just try be "involved".
People talking about it and what the mappers are making progress, (if they would want) their own thread where they show the work and asking people for test and input.
Apparently this project for all this techniques to be made into map/s for probably next whoever knows how long-> Is beneath anything else that deserved newspost, announcements and any sort of reward.
No organization at all. Or maybe organized enough to have the restrictions in place. Hard to understand your line of thought.
Great job at making it as hard as possible to have varied mappers trying it.
This is first reaction on reading it, might be exagerated because how ridiculously hard you try to want at the end of 1 month to have very little participation and blame on your community, the ones that are robed of time and chance to properly work on it.
Even so, you will have participation because people actually want to help make something good for the community as you can see Nubz is already having great ideas, there are people that really want to help and discuss.
But lets rush everyone that notices a forum post ( by chance in next few days/weeks) because this month is last month we can implement the new tech or all ljers will not jump it anymore.
"3. .... as long as you have the time to do it." ; "...keep in mind the deadline, though."
Seems weird to me.
If there are promising projects with people clearly taking this seriously to upgrade the current map(s), but are still lacking in time to wrap them up, then the deadline will be adjusted accordingly. The current deadline is simply a preferable estimation of the time it takes to do a map (or redesign) of this calliber. In short, you shouldn't worry too much about the time, but at the same time please don't overextend the time limit if it is not necessary.
I agree with spider1
I probably shouldn't get involved but here we go. I'll never understand why so many people in this community always want to be a part of the problem rather than the solution. Everyone likes to talk a lot but very few are willing to put in their time and efforts to actually help the community.
The competition wasn't put in place because it's massive waste of resources. How much have you played the versions of ljs2 that didn't win? In a competition all the participating projects should be published and played for it to make sense, and unfortunately that just doesn't work here. I was hoping for this to be a co-op project from multiple mappers, and originally it wasn't like that. But now you have the ground work done, and modifying it into your own version is very easy.
You now have all the annoying/time consuming parts practically made. Modifying a ready made .rmf in 1 month is more than enough for a project like this. The current version of the map was made in less time than what has been given now.
I appreciate people throwing in screenshots for ideas, but let's be honest it's mapping we're dealing with here. I believe mappers will mostly follow their own route on this. Also as has been mentioned before, the map is already hitting the engine limits with whatever little architecture it currently has. Many of the visions people seem to have most likely won't even be possible.
You have now been given all the tools necessary to modify it into your own liking, get going with it!
@Commandeer
first of all idk how tf you proud of how fast the map is made, since that map is really bad, second is you guys didn't ask for help at the very first and now you are still blaming why people are not helping?
if you make a news about mapping contest or coop mapping project at the very first, people will get interested in it
the problem is you guys did everything privately and the result is bad, and then people giving suggestion but you guys keep finding excuse after that.
I find it funny that no admin apologizes in any way for the fact that they would secretly release this if no one opened their mouth.
I saw this way before spider1 noticed it, but i thought i wasn't in the position to start another thread about what goes wrong (because self reflection isn't one of the things you guys are busy with in your daily life).
All you guys are confused about what the actual topic is.
I will put it in a metaphor since you guys are too stubborn to listen.
If it was about you eating all the hamburgers and not telling us there is enough for us all. And eventually we noticed there were hamburgers for us all and you just going to say, oh well now you can have some too because you asked for it, but you guys would never have the balls to say sorry for the fact you didn't share any hamburgers at the first place. than you are a really bad human being for not having any empathy.
if some one replies with a meme in a certain derogatory manner i will not participate and will not further participate in this topic.
I read a lot of admins talking negative about a lot of things and Commandeer's first paragraph is a contradiction on it's own.
Commandeer of course you do a lot of stuff behind closed doors, but can you really take credit for that? NO, because you do not share any information that we as audience can think that you are doing great stuff. We cannot put any quality towards your job, because its most likely going to hurt further processes. Do not get me wrong, this has nothing to do with you personally. but you cannot go state something with pointing fingers if you agree pointing fingers is the thing we shouldn't.
The RMF's we got has 2 big impacts.
1. We can't just accept the fact they are right in any way, we still need to face the fact the map is incomplete so might the structure of the techniques.
2. What is the maximum length of any technique (since some of them are too fresh to know the future impact)
e.g. 100 block lj is not the mimimum (220 is of course) but is 260 lj the max ever will be jumped? afaik 1 guy jumped 258 stats on 257 (so 258 must be the limit so far) do not reply on the lj min/max block because this is an EXAMPLE. i just want hard numbers
^ tl;dr - You are a really bad human and have no empathy for not allowing people to work on kz_ljs3.
You need a sickle added to your hammer icon dude.

This! Respect, an admin that sees what’s going on.

Please don't misinterpret my words on purpose, that doesn't do any good. Nowhere have I mentioned I would be proud of how the map turned out or how fast it was made. It's not the kind of ljs3 I had in mind but it's far from as bad as people make it out to be. A project like this could very well be done within the admin team, but as it turns out they didn't succeed this time.
Now the course has been changed and the administration wishes for mappers to present their own versions of the map here. Which is basically what everyone wanted from the start, I'm struggling to see why more slander is necessary? Hell I would even make my own version from this if the demo section wasn't keeping me so busy lately.
Are the new techniques really worth making a whole new map for? I mean if you're good at cj you're good at wj basically... As far as kkz jump/wallslide goes - the limit is going to be reached very fast, so it's only a matter of who submitted their demo first. Besides I think there's very little skill involved in kkz jump/wallslide especially when you compare it to any other technique. Duck bhop seems like a joke, sorry. Ladderjump is already included in kz_longjumps2, but for some reason you can't record a demo on it, why the hell would you even bother adding it to kz_longjumps3 then? All in all I think kz_longjumps2 is good enough, but that's just my opinion.
kkz-wallslide jump, afaik the WR is currently 250 block... 254+ block is possible. I want to see people do that quickly. Ladderjump on kz_ljs2 is not done properly, the blocks don't show the real distance. Duck bhop - if people voted for it, it's going to be an official technique.
@malle the hard numbers are already set in the map. It's completely understandable, that getting it from the map is a pain in the ass, so here are the hard numbers. tbh, it might have been a good idea to put it in the thread, but I doubt OP knew this file existed. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FU2ahJO97HUCarNIk3PPaO9_exrF-vh8kmlmU0BfOYk/edit?usp=sharing

Awesome Blackelf, thanks for sharing this.
No problem, hope it helps everyone
I appreciate that the XJ admins are taking its community serious, but this is kind of just making it worse lol. I agree with Mallee and Spider on most parts. The deadline is too short. I suggested adding new techniques and releasing a new map 8 years ago already ( https://xtreme-jumps.eu/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?315367 ) and many have before me. The admins kept ignoring it for years, so there really is no reason to rush things at this point, right?
In my opinion we should start from 0. Make a news post and invite mappers to bring in their creativity and ideas. Give a reasonable deadline of 3-4 months. Don't make restrictions apart from the necessary jumps and technical details. These "hard numberings" might be a stroke of genius but for the average person they're pure garbage, sorry for being so negative. There has to be a better solution. Maybe start LJ from 240, CJ from 250 etc. or something.
The moodboards from Nubz and Mallee are really nice! That's exactly what we need for a new official map, creativity!
