In my honest opinion, kz is too diverse to point to 1 single greatest player.
We would have to separate the gamemode into various categories and maybe subcategories.
I will talk about what I know best here.

I would say that throttle/shooting-star/topo come very close to each other when we talk about technique, specially throttle for mastering pretty much all techniques (except JB/EB). You can see just how well he does at technical maps.

On the other hand, I've always considered shooting-star a player to keep an eye on since the very first demos I watched from him on Cosy. I remember many times talking to script saying that, if a kz school existed, ss would be a teacher for technical complicated jumps, and have always said he would rise to insane skill levels. I have always been a huge fan of this guy way before he was known like he is today, and always knew the immense potential he had with his incredible technique. I am glad to see I was not wrong at all about him. You can see just how damn good he is at these complicated jumps we see in qsk_ maps and others alike. Dude does it with incredible skill and style. Well, anyway, he has dominated JBS and EBs, but, didn't master sliding afaik, a thing throttle does really good at. So there is a balance between him and throttle.

Now, topo has mastered both distance jumps and technical jumps to unprecedented levels, including some sliding, and has showed that multiple and multiple times on KZ-Rush. He just took the hard/extreme/death map times to a whole new, never-seen level, with unreal confidence in his runs. He just reached a level nobody thought was even possible and he continues to do it. He just didn't touch JBs and EBs that much as I can see.

An honorable mention to patchouli, of course, that just geeks the absolute fuck out of the maps she wants to take. Just look at the amount of hours she has in this game. I also have to mention that she has big troubles with slides, which can severely hinder performance when going for diverse maps that just have it all. However, when she goes for a WR, you can bet she GOES for it, will take the record with style and will take matters VERY far, just take a look at how she destroyed kz_memphisblock and dyd_bhop. If she wants to take a WR and you see her with something like 3 hours in a server, you can bet she was trying the whole time, just like when she was playing a 27(?)-sec-long speedmap on Ankh a few months back. She was there for like 2 or 3 hours and was trying to take that time the whole damn time non-stop.

These are my top 3 players when hard/technical maps come to mind.

Nowadays i don't think you can consider sandblock2 an xtreme map. More like hard-xtreme and for those kind of maps patchouli is amazing. But on xtreme-death maps (maps that aren't bhop only) gus, ss, throttle, lrs were were/are better. And in my honest opionion, gus>patchouli on any kind of maps
